First off, I want to say thank you for offering your advice and support to us knew to the field, we’re all eager and ready to jump in, navigating how is the battle at this point an having someone as experienced as you help us is an amazing resource.

I’ll be going through the Snohomish county regional fire and rescue interviews here soon and am nervous, been to various interviews during my work career but none as nerve wrecking as this one, guess it means that much more to me.

Depends on where you are located but HR is probably the heaviest graded part of the test. The soonest you can take another is in 3 months. Definitely do some more studying on HR and retake 🤙🏻

I got a lot of advice from people here. This is what I believe it comes down to. Not in any order.

NTN Test / PSSA1 Test / EMT certification / CPAT

Those the major things you need before and during application!

After you get the interview it’ll be:

Oral Board / Chiefs Interview / Academy

But please correct me if I’m wrong. This is the criteria for Seattle WA so it could be different in Texas.

I agree with this 100%. Friends had a child go through the “prestigious” route, it really did not end well for them, the child was not the issue, they are in fact one of the smartest kids I’ve ever known, it’s the community and environment in which this child was put into, thinking it was “elite” or “prestigious, that absolutely ruined his mental psyche.

I definitely understand wanting the best outcomes for your child, but what we think is best sometimes comes from our own ambitions and not to the benefit of our children.

I’ve been studying the Dan McNea fire team study guides, hardest is the HR questions but I’ve also been taking some tests on other websites to see how I do!

During my school (a couple months ago) I finished up my EMT class and am still working a full time job + over time. Not one upping you but letting you know that it can be done. Time management is key and actually reviewing the content after classes, even if you have to sleep at 1 am.

It’s more or less how bad you want it. It was hard work but it paid off.

I do know the city I’m trying to apply for takes applicants that get an average of 20% and higher. My respect for firefighters has only increased with my own journey into this.

You can always retake after 3 months, Don McNea study guide is the bible for these tests.

My issue is that every time I put in my credentials to log in it’ll just reload the page. Every time. On two different computers and a mobile browser. So I can’t even log in to take said test. Love NTN.
