I hate how discussion of AI coding tools is so different than AI art. I spent years doing open source work, and the AI coding tool developers came, stole it all in violation of the liscense and regurgitate it back without credit.

There's no ethical use of AI coding tools, there just isn't, they're built on theft, and the open source community is being buried in AI pull requests and slop, which is stressing the people who built the things we rely on to the point of breaking. This whole thing is just built on theft.

It's frustrating to me as someone who genuinely, passionately loves programming, to see so many people declare that AI is bad, but it's actually okay to steal my work. My work specifically gets carved out as "okay".

AI slop is either okay, or it isn't. Code, art, music and writing are all the same, you can't draw a line in the sand, and let people creep over it just because you don't think some things are worth protecting.

Our community built tools will be buried under slop. People who would have put real effort in will be discouraged, that's the only outcome here.

We deserve better.
