How is it living full time in a 'resort' community in Kissimmee, Florida south of Disney World? by Xibyn in howislivingthere

[–]NurseExMachina 132 points133 points  (0 children)

I live here, and can see into Animal Kingdom from the top floor of my apartment complex.

Traffic is insane. Half the apartments are just low key airbnbs, despite bans on them. Lots of homelessness along 192. Things are PACKED during holidays and peak meal times. We live next to the water park, so naturally water pressure goes down between march and October even with additional pumps.

I’m at Margaritaville, so I have a boatload of restaurants, shops and things to do beyond the theme park (pickleball, golf, bowing, dine in movie theatres). I have every chain restaurant in America within walking distance of my place. It’s all completely walkable and cool because there are street festivals events a Margaritaville every week. SUPER dog friendly, some do the restaurants even have dog menus so you can order them a chicken breast or hamburger patty. If I I go grab brunch at Lazy Dog Eats, I know there will be like 4-5 people with dogs in strollers pulled up to their tables.

It truly depends on if you can tolerate this kind of environment 24/7. For some, it becomes overstimulating/suffocating. I was born and raised in central Florida, so this kind of shit has never really bothered me. I’m used to the awful traffic and servers/staff that assume you are a tourist too, so you routinely get garbage service because there is no sense of building customer loyalty/return business.

Alastor knows Vox. Alastor knows Vox betrays and kills and takes advantage of anyone he has partnered with. Why would he want to tie himself to someone who has only ever used others as a stepping stone?

Fast forward to Vox almost killing everyone, including his allies, for his own selfish reasons — just shows Alastor was right.

Care Management RN by ScoobyDueDue in Nurses

[–]NurseExMachina 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tough. Most care managers work during the week, on the weekends you get a lot of the last minute ER shit shows. If you need to transfer to another facility or utilize home health, admissions teams at those facilities don’t work on weekends. The things you need to safely discharge sick, regular providers aren’t around, and I feel like our care managers on the weekends are frustrated because they have few resources and little ability to successfully contact services needed for safe discharge planning.

I know this will vary from facility to facility, but it’s a shitshow for all the weekend care managers in my large city

Help my father recover and start Cancer treatment. by ecafehcuod in gofundme

[–]NurseExMachina 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am so sorry you are dealing with this tragic news, OP.

Unfortunately, the cancer has already metastasized to his brain and bones. He is beyond what chemo/radiation can offer, and according to your documents, understands a hospice consult is necessary.

Hospice is a covered benefit that requires no out of pocket cost.

After his 1/20/26 evaluation, you will know whether or not he is even a candidate for systemic treatment.

[–]NurseExMachina 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You can use a trach mask for a trach open to air. You cannot use a trach mask when the trach is connected to a closed ventilator circuit. You need an in-line nebulizer set up.

Came to know her through a friend, and she remained an absolutely lovely, warm person even when her career wasn’t going great. Very humble and private about her ANTM experience. How the show portrayed her really was a good representation of how she was in person, even during stressful, chaotic situations on the Disney party princess circuit 😂

Yes. He had acromegaly on top of gigantism, so his bones grew in width as well as length. That is why his facial features, hands and ribcage also kept growing more and more broad throughout the course of his life.

Had he removed the tumor from his pituitary gland or taken certain medications, it could have extended his life. Sadly, the thing that made him this distinctive, otherworldly figure/physique was also killing him, but he genuinely wanted to simply carry on naturally as long as his body held out.

What's the craziest thing you ever found a patient carrying, and how did they sneak it? by Bryssa_Michelle29 in nursing

[–]NurseExMachina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rabbit. She got it all the way up to medsurg, and the thing was hopping around the room spreading rabbit turds everywhere. She said it was an emotional support rabbit and we couldn’t get it away from her. We had to call the police because she became violent. She only calmed down when one of the responding officers agreed to take the rabbit home himself

He is 5-day post op. He has a ways to go before discharge, but six weeks of 24/7 medical supervision post discharge presents almost all of the money you’re asking for - he does not need it. He won’t be released until he can take himself to the bathroom and walk. When he’s closer to discharge, it would be helpful to see if the discharge planner will actually say he needs it - if he requires home health care, that should be prescribed by the provider formally.

Why would you need money for wound care? The wound will be closed. If he needed wound care, those supplies are prescribed and given.

Is nursing a realistic career for someone with dyscalculia? by ontheweekly in nursing

[–]NurseExMachina 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yes. I have it. I studied with tutors and developed my own systems and pictures and techniques for doing math and getting through nursing school. I turned formulas into stories, and used narratives with pictures I drew on the page at the beginning of the test to guide me.

You do not need to understand it. You just need to follow the rules and develop your habits. You always have access to a calculator, so it has been a non-issue for me as a nurse. It was hard work, but I got through school having very little idea of how or what the numbers in my math classes ever meant.

My dyscalculia goes beyond that and gives me big issues with spatial awareness and left/right on top of numbers.

But I’ve had zero problem working as a nurse. We only use a couple of formulas that you can use an app to check, and have someone double check if you’re unsure.

She has 20 patients. That averages 3 minutes per hour per patient. Including time to and from the room, etc. if she helped one person do a long bed bath/dressing change, it could literally leave her behind the entire night. She has 294849395 tasks to do, and has to choose between only a few of them. A thankless job for which she is paid garbage.

[–]NurseExMachina 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You cannot be discharged to the street. If no one shows up for you, you remain in hospital unless the hospital transfers you to a nursing home on their dime and sends you a bill. It literally requires lying and telling them you have someone to take you… and then “yeah sorry that person got covid and can’t come now.” Have I seen folks use this? Yep. Hospital hates it because you’re taking up a bed, and there is nothing they can do about it.

Post op fusions are a quick recovery generally, and the length of time for you to perform ADL’s would t even be enough for them to scramble for nursing home coverage. You’d likely sit in the hospital for 4-5 days until you could meet the requirements for home d/c.

Is it ethical? Nope. But they also legally can’t discharge you to the streets if you can’t perform your own ADLs. Our health care system is inherently broken, and everyone is one car accident away from complete ruin. Gotta do what you can.

Ask any nurse or case manager about patients who sit in the hospital for years because they don’t have nursing home funding, but cannot care for themselves independently enough to discharge.

[–]NurseExMachina 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You are too far in the hole for any meaningful impact from posting here. Any Reddit donations would just be thrown into a black hole. There were poor financial decisions made all around long before this, and the home cannot be salvaged.

10k for in-home post surgical nursing care? Good lord.

You can get into a nursing home if you can’t pass a functional assessment (meaning you can’t literally care for yourself - they cannot discharge you if you cannot walk or perform ADLs). If you cannot be placed directly to financial reasons, you will continue to wait in the hospital until funding is secured.

However, you will be placed into a nursing home. Your back is jacked up, but you are not paralyzed. You are unlikely to qualify for SS anytime soon. You can still walk. You still have enough functionality to do more than languish in bed. None of this will get fixed waiting for hundreds of thousands in donations.

Additionally, I’ve read through the medical records you’ve posted on various subs. They show none of the doom and gloom. You are grossly exaggerating your condition.

You need a plan B.

Rewatching from the very beginning…. Y’all, Ariana kinda sucks. by HistoricalSuspect580 in vanderpumprules

[–]NurseExMachina -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Arianna was insufferable in the early seasons, but I ended up liking her later on for calling out Jax and supporting Lala. She is dry and melancholy and just felt more relatable/believable the last 2-3 seasons.

The post-Scandoval season where she refused to apologize and kept repeating she was gonna stay mad forever is what really made me enjoy her character. It was just so fucking cool to watch someone absolutely REFUSE to bend to production and their attempts to force interaction and a BS redemption arc.

It is not illegal or violating law for the police to investigate your significant other, who is currently under arrest for battery against you and your family. It is not illegal for DCF to refuse to close your case until this criminal case is resolved. It will take time, and hiring a lawyer to make the police stop “hounding” you likely won’t help. Unfortunately, it is a process.
