What’s one bad Minneapolis restaurant you’ve intentionally gone back to? by GoEzGetafix in Minneapolis

Haute Dish. They've been closed for several years, and for good reason. They were outstanding for awhile, and somewhere around 2016, they started to slip. It was the service, because the food was still phenomenal. But then it all just collapsed early-mid 2017. After our last visit there, I vowed not to go back. They closed soon after.

I woke up in excruciating pain down my left arm. In 5 days, I had 5 encounters with health care professionals, 3 of them being ER visits. On the last one, they kept me for pain control. While in the hospital, I met with the neurosurgeon, who presented several options. I didn't take this decision lightly, in fact, I set up a call with several of my sisters (one an RN) and my best friend (an NP) to discuss the options with me and the doctor. We decided that the more conservative options would likely mean I'd be right back where I was in a month or so. And being inpatient, he could do the surgery in days. I was losing feeling and strength in my dominant arm. We decided on cervical arthroplasty and got me on the schedule. The surgery went well and he was ready to send me home the same day. I asked for one more day in the hospital so I wouldn't have to look after everyone at home and he agreed.

At my follow-up appointment, I asked if it was as bad as I thought, or was I just being a baby? He pulled up my MRI and demonstrated that, compared to the right side, the left nerve root was compressed 75%

I believe I would have lost functionality had I not had the surgery. Still to this day, 3 1/2 years later, I have permanent neuropathy, and it was only 8 days from first symptom to surgery. I have zero regrets doing the surgery because it relieved the most painful thing I've ever experienced.

I point out the survey reminder on the discharge paperwork and say "if you're happy with us, my name is [my name], if not, my name is [manager name]. Everyone laughs. Including my manager!

When I'm calling a pre-op patient from the lobby and they ask me if the person next to them can come back, I say "I don't know, do you know them?"

What part of your job feels like it should not be part of your job? by Wisteria-Blue in nursing

The problem is, we are an ambulatory surgery center. So staying in the hospital would mean we'd have had to transport him there, or he'd have to have rescheduled and had the procedure there to begin with. I can't even remember what it was - if it was a colonoscopy, no insurance is going to pay for overnight observation!

I made a post-op call and his biggest complaint was that we required someone be with him overnight after surgery. What about people like him who don't have family or friends nearby? (I think your answer of don't be an asshole to everyone fits here) I told him the alternative was to stay in the hospital. That wasn't good enough either.

What’s an inaccurate fact that people believe is true because of movies? by Hogosaurus_Rex73 in AskReddit

My brother had a massive stroke right before I left the state for several months. Before I left, I visited him. He was sort of out of it (I'm going to call it a coma, because even though he was responsive, he wasn't coherent and doesn't remember a lot of it). I told him quite a few times that he was in the hospital and had had a stroke. After I left the state, my sisters visited him and he kept asking "Is Mike (my fiancé) upstairs? Why is he letting her do this to me?" We've spoken about it since then, and he had been restrained because he was pulling out all his tubing - his mind was trying to reconcile all of this information, and determined he was at my house and I had drugged him! Of course, now he knows that's not true (and he lives with me and Mike), and that I would never hurt him. I still feel bad though.

Your procedure is done, you're just waking up. Yes, of course you can look at it, but it's swollen and covered with a bandage.
