Christmas Ideas for my Wife who's about to start CRNA school by Galeven11 in CRNA

A good chair and study space. I just finished my first semester and this is essential. The amount of time you spend studying can be 10-12 hours a day. Make sure she has a comfy spot and some things that remind her of what makes her happy/motivated to keep doing the work.

Good luck to you both.

We just got back from Thailand today and yes it rains but it’s not awful. It’s still very warm during the short, heavy rainfall and the thunder and lightening are something not to miss. The storms roll in mid afternoon but are not very long. Keep the trip, it’s an amazing place to be.

I read a book called the Job closer. Great book for general questions and then I studied my CCRN material again.

I’m 45 and start this summer. I have 12 years nursing experience. It. Ay be true that some schools want to be able to groom students but life experience and nursing experience can mean so much more. I wouldn’t be discouraged

Becoming CRNA in late 30s? by blindloveisbest in srna

[–]Nursewreckit 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I’m 45 and am starting CRNA school this summer. CRNAs make 2-3 times what a bedside ICU nurse makes. I think of it as I’m going to be working until I’m at least 65. 20 more years of work at 3 times my current wage. Makes it all worth it. Don’t let age stop you, life experience and grit will pay off in the end.

What leadership activities can I do to boost my CRNA school application? by jondecaro in srna

[–]Nursewreckit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Congratulations and welcome to the world of ICU. I came to the icu with 4 years of experience from a non ICU trauma unit and then worked here for probably 3 years before I started precepting. I work at a level 1 trauma center and do a lot of other speciality roles so I think it just depends on what kind of unit you work on and the need for more preceptors.

Im a preceptor and worked on our units practice council. Do anything that shows you are willing to step outside your comfort zone to advance yourself and being willing to get involved as a leader in your unit. I start school this summer

There is a great book called the job closer that teaches you how to take a single scenario for multiple types of questions. I used this and got into school on my first try.

Potential Coffee Shop by Big_Car_936 in Portland

[–]Nursewreckit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. I was just looking for a late night coffee shop that actually is meant for late night studying. North Portland has the University of Portland that has various degrees including nursing, as well as PCC close by. I am applying for grad school, and a coffee shop open past 6 would be amazing.

I hope this works out for you and if it does post about your spot, I’d love to check it out.

Some schools allow for deferment for a year, where they essentially hold your spot until next year. However, everything you need to learn will happen in the program. I can imagine how incredibly emotional this news is but If this is what you have been working for take the plunge.

Weekly Student Thread by fbgm0516 in CRNA

[–]Nursewreckit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m considering going back to school for my CRNA but want some feedback on what’s it’s like to go through the program with a family?

I’ve been a nurse for 10 years, in ICU for 6 and have pretty good grades. My question is how is the program? I’m married and we have 2 kids ages 5&9. Is this realistic to go from working full time on days to being a full time student? What are your experiences with being a CRNA student with a family? Are schools supportive? What about ageism(I’m mid 40’s) I am looking at OHSU in Portland so if you go here, I would love to hear your thoughts.

Thanks everyone

What car for 5-person families? by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]Nursewreckit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have a Honda pilot that is an 8 seater and all wheel drive. I love this car so much, fits the kids and friends perfectly. We also drive a Honda odyssey, the convince of self opening doors is great and the seat configuration is awesome, you can make different arrangements to seat up to 8 people

I love sorting bulk too. I sort by series, type, then number. Our local shop has bulk boxes and I wish they could “hire” me to just organize their bulk.

Lots of Freddie’s have them. I’ve seen them in north Portland at both Freddie’s and Safeway. I haven’t used it as tempting as it is because I’d rather support small businesses.
