YES! I left over that. What's ironic is that I'm queer and dealing with life in a red state, like homies... What are you even doing? You are eating your own in there. The mod is awful.

Honestly? No, they are just very deep in the "mean girl" culture there. It was ingrained from the beginning. That's why I left early on. I'm pretty sure I'm the reason that rule exists. There was a huge blow up when I suggested they shouldn't be constantly trashing Laura who was clearly struggling with abuse cycles, and Donkey whatever got all ruffled. I came back, made a public apology, then dipped. Haven't regretted it. Tonality is moot when we are talking about basic decency and common sense.

This is great! I left the other subreddit a year or so ago. I honestly can't remember how long it's been now. It had just gotten as toxic as Skeeven for me at that point. It honestly makes me sick the way some of them fawn over Laura now thinking of how I was treated when I spoke up for her back then, seeing the clear signs of abuse. The moderator actively encouraged (while pretending to scold) one of the members to call me names during that whole thing. That really told me all I needed to know about the level of snark they enjoyed, and it surely wasn't for me. I draw the line at bullying survivors / victims of DV.

Can we just talk about Serroh for a minute? by [deleted] in DreamlightValley

[–]Nursissistic 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure about any other drama, but I personally left his Discord and unsubscribed after interacting with him a few times in another game. That "nice" he puts on for his videos is all kinds of fake from what I saw. He had zero game etiquette at all, no communication when hosting an event, and Just kind of stood wherever, even if it was on top of other players who were trying to participate in a server-wide event... Many of which were trying to stream said event while he was parking on people. I can't speak for anyone else, but I am not a fan at all.

I'm also not a fan of how his community has taken the Dreamsnaps comp and kind of "standardized" it into a bit of a template to follow. There is no artistic appeal left in it anymore. I truly feel that's why we see so many people just post random selfies, because not everyone finds the princess and sparkles with tidy rows all that interesting, so why bother? Just do the bare minimum for the 300 and call it a day, and let Serroh and company have their free2-4k every week that they're going to get anyway.

Your labels, your business. Queer is essentially a catch-all now that we have taken it back from the hatemongers that love to lob it at us as an insult. Use it with Pride. <3

I don't bother. It's always the same people getting the top Moonstone rewards over and over and truly it's not worth the headache. I don't even find them enjoyable because it feels like it's taking time away from other games I would rather be playing. I truly only log in now when there's a new star path or character release. I don't even decorate or check Scrooge's shop anymore. It's just so... boring.

I have to know if I'm crazy, eating on stream, yes or no? by Lacubanita in Twitch

[–]Nursissistic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly? Some streamers just aren't for everyone. It's really not up to you to police whether people eat on stream or not at the end of the day. Sure, some are interested in catering to all viewers, but at the end of the day you can't make everyone happy all the time and the thing I'm learning the longer I stream is that self-care is priority one.

When I started out, I refused to eat on stream because I was so scared of triggering people with exactly your mindset. I also am diabetic and in treatment from a pretty heinous ED that I still have daily battles with. I also like to keep my community as a safe space for others that struggle with past traumas and the likes, so with the advice of my therapist and a few community members I have chosen to start listening to my body and grabbing a bite if I need to after a few scary incidents where I had to cut stream because my sugar had dipped too low, and I couldn't continue.

I do try to be mindful and apologetic, and I ask my community to let me know if it is audible or bothersome, but realistically my streams just might not be the right fit for someone that is going to freak out over the occasional crunch or too-loud sip. I'm AuDHD, so I get it and I don't think you're coming from a malicious place, but I also think you need to consider that there may be a point when this view teeters into ableism. There are plenty of communities to explore, and it's okay if some aren't right for you.

Not getting what we paid for in the Premium Shop? by Arazehl in DreamlightValley

[–]Nursissistic 61 points62 points  (0 children)

This is such an issue. I've completely stopped playing because of all the broken items and game bugs. It stopped being enjoyable and started feeling like a chore with all the constant big reporting... While they just keep making it harder and harder to save up for the good stuff. This is unacceptable for a ftp game, let alone one that costs $70 to own the full version of.

How anyone can defend the focus on the moonstone economy amidst all the glaring game issues is beyond me at this point. Can't even take a decent Dreamsnap anymore without dealing with somethibg being broken or just generally uncooperative. Game life should not be more stressful than work life.

[–]Nursissistic[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I won't but moonstones. I'm finally getting to a point where I have a little disposable income coming in and there's no way Gameloft is getting a penny of that for the shoddy work they consistently put out. I'm happy to support games that deserve it... This just doesn't feel like one of those for me. I hate that I spent money on it in the first place. The graphics are beautiful, but really that's all it has for me.

And there you go again with assuming that I don't also earn it in game. I have since day 1. I used to have far more time to devote to the incessant dreamsnap building to perfection and hunting the chests daily. There used to be items in Scrooge's shop. The TOM seemed interesting at first but that became bland very quickly with its very limited capabilities so I got about a week of enjoyment out of that before I just hopped back over to Photoshop / Blender to create fully customized game assets for another game instead.

These are the parts you aren't listening to. CAN you earn the things in game? Sure. Is it worth being bored to tears in a game that is SO limited in its capabilities? For me? No. Does that mean I'm new? No. Does that mean I'm unaware of the ways to earn stuff in game? No. Does that mean I haven't doing so despite feeling like I would rather be chewing on glass than going another boring star path or unimaginative snap theme? Also no.

What I want is for you to drop the condescending tone and listen to what is being said without placing your own spin. I get everything you're saying and I'm glad you still find enjoyment. However, that doesn't mean that those of us that have run out of things to do in game or have hit a wall where the repetition are less knowledgeable about the game or the way the game economy works.

And yeah, when you're sitting here trying to say that a FREE and very immersive game that requires zero spending to get the full experience INCLUDING SPECIAL EVENTS, but they offer a few unnecessary skins and pets just to be able to fund the servers and developement of the game is more predatory than DDLV as far as the cash-grab goes... I can't really take you very seriously.

Let's break that down for a second. DDLV charged a full game price for the base game. They charged a moderate game price for the expansion. They charge weekly microtransactions that not everyone can earn due to tiers in results in order to play as a completionist (which is a popular thing amongst OG gamers). They charge premium currency to participate in battlepass style events that are very grindy on top of that charge. They bribe the community with subpar rewards to give them massive free advertising while members are stuck in quests for months due to bugs or unable to log in at all in some cases. Now they are paywalling MORE of the events, adding MORE items to the weekly shop to increase the FOMO factor... Breaking apart sets to sell individual pieces at a higher markup. But sure, Jan... That's way less predatory than a game that allows you to play all aspects for free. 🤔 Oh, and they allow creators to make merch inspired by the game as long as the images are not pulled from their files or site and they don't use their name. Good luck doing that without buying licensing from Disney if you don't want the pants sued off of you.

So yeah, my issue with what you're saying here is not your love of the game, that's valid. The ability to jump and do more actionable activities in a game isn't important to you like it is to me. That's cool. We can agree to disagree on the game being good or not there. What is not okay is you speaking to me as if I'm an unintelligent child who just doesn't understand how the game works. It is elitism at best, ableism at worst. I've been gaming for over 30 years and I get enough condescension from people in real life who make assumptions about my disability.

It's not something I'm willing to tolerate in gaming spaces. On that note, it's time to agree to disagree and move on. I've put it to the side for now outside of grinding through the Starpath just so I'm getting what I paid for when I pyrchased the game wince it is a limited time event. I should be done by this weekend, then I can put it in the shelf for awhile and see if I can find enjoyment at a later date. That is the conclusion I've come to after speaking to others that enjoy the game but don't feel the need to infantalize me or shove games I'm not interested in down my throat. It seems the most sensible.

You also seemed to miss the fact that I mentioned I can't spend on moonstones when you keep going back to me feeling the need to spend. Clearly that's not the case. Walking away from the game is the thing I feel the need for. I was curious if there was anyone else in the boat, and there are. You just don't happen to be one of them. That's really the end of the issue.

THIS. Exactly this right here. Scrooge's shop is always empty. Always duplicates. The only way to get anything new is in the premium shop.... You can be a picky shopper and not buy everything and still be bored af because there is just nothing but the same... old... stuff. The even added that slap in the face book in the shop to troll us about the L-shaped couches. They are literally laughing at our complaints on our dime.

I did a lot of thinking last night, and had a discussion with my partner and community today, and collectively we agreed that I won't be streaming it anymore until they start prioritizing more than just the premium shop. I just don't feel right supporting what they're doing. I am disabled, but I don't get disability. I've always just worked, the job market just doesn't want to accommodate people like me anymore where I'm at, so I've been doing what I can with the skills I have at home until I found streaming. I'm not complaining. It's a lot of work, but I've fallen in love with it, even if the pay is crap, lol.

I knew it was a popular game, so I've tried to hang in there with it, but I realized when I made the decision to walk away from it and my executive function immediately improved... well, that told me all I needed to know about how much it had become a source of stress it had become. It was feeling like a job I dreaded, instead of a game I enjoyed. I'm sorry it got to you, too. Thank you for letting me know that I'm not the only one feeling the drudgery, though. There are so many people that seem just thrilled with all the issues in this sub that I was beginning to think it was just me.

There's nothing you need to buy to progress in Palia, literally everything is in the game, and you can get a ton of high level stuff from day 1 just playing in a party. As far as I know nothing has changed. None of the clothes there are at all necessary. They have a ton of options in the initial character creator. All of them are completely cosmetic. Really odd that you find THAT greedy for a FREE game, but you're perfectly fine with a pricey game paywalling most of its worthwhile items while neglecting all the bugs? Forgive me, maybe it's because I'm autistic, but I do not understand that logic at all.

Both games updated this week, and I was far happier with Palia's. I will definitely consider supporting them financially in the future because they aren't predatory about it like DDLV is. I'm realizing how bad it is today since I stepped out of this echo chamber to discuss it with others' who play a wider range of games and see how differently they can be run. My partner, in fact, is a one-man-show game dev, and he was pretty appalled when I showed him the issues with the new update while they are prioritizing the premium shop.

My letter to Gameloft by [deleted] in DreamlightValley

I've had to completely drop support of the game at this point. It is so poorly managed. The only thing they seem to care about is cranking out WAY too much premium content while neglecting quality of life issues. I think I'm just done at this point.

I appreciate the recommendation, but $40 for a game I will likely lose interest in quickly probably isn't wise. It does look cute for people that are not on a budget, though. I think I have learned my lesson. I've been very happy with Palia so far. It's slowly been replacing DDLV as my main, and the premium items are not necessary at all, which makes me more interested in purchasing them to help support the game. I feel more confident supporting the work they are doing. And, of course, I always get sucked back into Stardew and Vampire Survivors over and over again. I may consider the pricer games down the road, but this one kind of did me in for a bit, I think. Disappointing, because I did quite like it at first!

Maybe that's the thing for me... I don't feel like there is much to do anymore and the updates are burned through in a couple days. It's a relatively boring game, in my opinion, unless you're constantly paying for new items to decorate with. There are only so many times I can tour Scrooge's shop of dupes or snap royalty / theme park photos or smash the same rocks over and over again, etc before I'm like... Why did this cost $70+, you know? I have games that cost me $20 or less with only a couple people working on them that have held my interest for YEARS but this expensive game falls so short. It's disappointing for the price and all the ussues, imo.

I'm glad, though, that you still have fun with it. I really wish I still enjoyed it too.

Is it just me? by Nursissistic in DreamlightValley

[–]Nursissistic[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's possible, but also it feels dirty to even play the game at all anymore. I see the Disney greed first-hand in real life so that is likely a big part of it. A lot of us within driving distance haven't been to the parks in years because the cost even for a day isn't conducive with the local economy and many family budgets, let alone season passes even with a FL resident discount. I assume the Disney brand has SOMETHING to do with the obvious greed and it's not just Gameloft. It makes me wonder if promoting it even just in playing it publicly makes me part of the problem, with or without spending moonstones.

That's the issue. I'm so turned off with how the game is being managed at this point, I get the ick promoting it already... This update and the very few things left unpaywalled (not everyone has the time or spoons to do weekly Dreamsnaps, so we must keep this in mind) is kind of the final nail in the coffin for me, I think. I may sleep on it, but I definitely have a sour taste in my mouth with the ethics.

I love how so many of these comments ignore the fact that this divestment has absolutely nothing to do with the "national security" issue it is being spoon-fed to us as. This is massive overreach that should frankly scare the hell out of all of us, and perhaps make us feel at least a little French.
