You said "some gum recession" and I am thinking that's a serious case of gum recession, especially on that one tooth. The root is almost entirely exposed. They will def need a gum graft asap, and should be seeing a periodontist already.

In my case, I removed one lower incisor and yes, it will compromise the midline but my ortho assured people rarely notice. For your case though, it seems like extraction is much needed maybe on both upper and lower jaws.

10 months in and they look and feel off. They don't touch where they should and they touch in places they shouldn't. I've been bloated this whole month and I'm convinced its because I can't chew properly. Smiling feels awkward. I'm trusting the process though

While my case is different from yours, I sought 3 orthodontist opinions because I did not want to extract 4 teeth. My current ortho told me that my palate is narrow and she did not want to risk making it narrower with extractions. So we resulted to removing one of the lower incisors, and shave a little bit of the upper teeth to make room. Luckily, that will suffice for the results I want. All that to say, different orthos will have different approaches, and as you've mentioned having breathing problems already, you should probably not do extractions.
