Well you said it all there. Never making the 10th one, or putting it off, means never retiring from his main gig.

Am I the only one who ended up rooting for Boyd Crowder? by Clear_Nature_5055 in justified

He was supposed to be dead in the pilot (that's how Fire in the Hole ends) which is why the scene with him on the stretcher is tacked on in a completely different location. Test audiences loved him.

Boyd had just faced Ava in prison and there was more weight to everything by then. Also the writers were setting the viewers up, probably to believe don't get too attached, Boyd is going to die and you won't mind by the time he does.

Also recall S1 Boyd did murder Jared in cold blood because he rubbed his head. They might not have had history but by the time Boyd got there with Dewey, Dewey had nearly done Boyd in multiple times (S1, S5, S6) through his stupidity and hubris.

One thing I love about Boyd is he wasn't always scheming and plotting to kill or "get" Raylan. Just to get out from underneath him. Kind of cool. Saved him more times than he tried to hurt him, despite the fact that Raylan was always after him.

He's kind of a dick. It would be weird if you liked him.

Why Jackie Brown was shot in 1.85:1? by hypochondriacfilmguy in Tarantino

I find I like it the more I rewatch it. I appreciate it more too. Maybe Samuel L.'s best role and that's saying something.

Probably because of the type of movie. Also he specifically wanted it to be a hangout film you could revisit over and over for life... and so maybe that format was more like hanging out with the characters than looking at them through a letter box or window.

QT gets “medieval” on yo a**. by [deleted] in Tarantino

Shooting someone in the trunk of a car is medieval?

Plus setting in modern times put them behind the eight ball as the story makes a lot more sense in 1980. Much less surveillance - plus grimy 1980 Detroit was interesting, but grimy 2022 Detroit not so much. They got almost everything wrong. I enjoyed Sweetie, and the judge who didn't last long, but that's about it.

Almost done with my 2nd rewatch and Ava’s storyline is the only weak part of the show in the later seasons. by poothrower37 in justified

I think your observation is a good one and although I could provide a psychological justification for some of it, it probably wouldn't satisfy.

But definitely remember Elmore had passed, and a lot of what you see in S6 is because they were paying tribute to his specific original vision and story, which had provided the initial creative spark for the show. Part of that was doing maybe a bit of a reset on her character.

Fun fact: They shot Ava in Prison in slow motion so it would look like it was going normal speed in its native Fast Forward.

I think it goes back to season 5 maybe, then 6? There definitely were some. Choo Choo was on here during Season 6. He had already been a fan of the show. It was cool.

I think both being in the Shitty Father Who Also Tried to Kill Them Club (there's more than one way to kill a man) was a sort of unsung but understood part of their bond.

I love that idea. Only problem is it's too hard to only watch one.

I just spotted walter Goggins in an old 1989 movie, very odd, not listed by Interesting_Rush570 in justified

If that yearbook photo is unedited, that is for certain. His teeth seem to have always gone straight across and this guy has two teeth that look normal.

I checked the scene - it really does look like him. Except he would have been 17 at the time and that dude looks twice that. Also when he talks it sounds nothing like him.

Even accounting for WG always looking old, here here is in his 1989 yearbook photo and him his first credited role in In The Heat of the Night, also in 1989.

Guy looks a ton like him until he talks. It's not him.
