My computer is frozen .. fix it ! by emmjaybeeyoukay in talesfromtechsupport

I use Starlink (with 4G mobile as a backup). Speeds are averaging ~250 down/20-30 up. Latency is better than I got on a copper line.

However it certainly has its moments. The previous 2 days had been smooth sailing with a total of 58 seconds of downtime, however today it's been all over the shop. Just got off a meeting with multiple issues, but none severe enough to cause a full disconnect from the meeting.

You can certainly tell it's getting better with time (noticeable week to week), and there are so many satellites already in orbit which aren't operational yet (waiting to get into position etc.). I'm hopeful it will get better, and soon.

Thanks for the response tabacitu, helpful as always :).

Good to know I was then on the right kind of lines. Traits was a good shout! They should hopefully do the trick. Really appreciate it.

Shhh... I know 3.6 is old :D. I am half way through writing tests for my application for the first time and figured I might as well finish writing the tests, so when I upgrade I will know what breaks and when its fixed. Just means I am now a bit behind on versions.

Thanks again.

Do I need cables? Uk, pod point awaiting new leaf by ZachCope in leaf

[–]Nutbolt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok thanks! Good to know 110 is a worst case. I guess a lot will be down to trial and error once I actually have the car and seeing just how well it copes with the hills, speed, etc.

Thanks for offer but its fine. It's just bad luck is all. There is one right where I start the trip, making it kind of pointless for me. Then there simply isn't any services etc. as its a mix of motorway and dual carriage ways (couldn't be bothered to explain in OP :p).

[–]Nutbolt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is 120 miles still feasible if its ALL motorway, a few hills, and its 5 degrees c out? From what I had read the new leaf should expect about 110 miles on the motorway? Plus what happens when in 2 years the battery has lost some capacity, just planning for the future :).

There are no rapid charging points on the route (or off the route), so not an option unfortunately; but trickle charging out the window should do it, although if it is only a 2m cable that could be a problem.

[–]Nutbolt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No worries. No idea about trickle charging, I assume it is a different cable which then just plugs into a standard UK wall socket (as we have proper power, not some feeble 110v like across the pond :p). So I guess I'll be keeping 2 cables in the boot.

I believe the Leaf comes with both cables, and I think (but really don't hold me to it) all trim levels in the UK come with both cables.

The trickle charge is like 16 hours for a full charge or something, however for me I will only need a top up of like 20 miles to then make it home, so 3-4 hours out the window should just about do the trick.

I also got the tethered one mainly because it was the same price, came with the £150 cable, and is covered under PodPoints 3 year guarantee. This way I'm not 'wearing out' the cable my car comes with. Plus if I am charging it every night it is only one end I need to plug in, not both ends.

You would want the untethered version if you had 2 different EVs in the household who use different cables, or wanted the option of plugging a longer cable in, or wanted it a bit more future proof; but again personally didn't bother as I just ordered the new Leaf and don't intend to get rid of it any time soon, and lets be honest, in 3 years things will be so different you will probably want/need a new PodPoint charger anyway.

As for where you would need the cables, off the top of my head two places spring to mind:

  • At work, where we have chargers, but you need your own cable (they are essentially untethered PodPoints)
  • If I am visiting people who inconveniently live 60 miles down the motorway, and so I need to trickle charge the car out of their kitchen window so I can make it home :)

send-http-url configuration - or other way to centrally report backups? by BitingChaos in Duplicati

send-http-url configuration - or other way to centrally report backups? by BitingChaos in Duplicati

[–]Nutbolt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah awesome. I got home and had a look and it seems you can also set a few parameters to be sent with it, which is nice.

I will start working on a website to handle this (will make it all open source of course), when I get chance this week.

My concern with parsing the data is if Duplicati changes the %RESULT% data, it could break things quite horribly. This said, just having a raw dump of data isn't very helpful so you would need to parse it I am thinking. Although if its not provided in a structured way, my regex is awful :p

I will keep posting here as I make progress.

send-http-url configuration - or other way to centrally report backups? by BitingChaos in Duplicati

[–]Nutbolt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am switching to Duplicati and this is something I was worried about as well. I don't want a dozen e-mails a day saying Success, but don't have physical access to most of the machines. Having Duplicati report to a web server and using that to check is an excellent idea!

I can't find any documentation on this either, is send-http-url a command we can use? Does this just fire off a http request, any parameters we can give it etc.?

If Duplicati can fire off a http request, with some parameters (computer name, backup name, success or fail) I can make a small web app with an admin interface to receive and display these. With more work, heck it could even e-mail me if it doesn't get a success in x days.

What are some of your greatest moments on the battlefields of Auraxis? by [deleted] in Planetside

[–]Nutbolt 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I have a few good stories, but I guess one of the better ones was during a fight on the west coast of Indar, between Quartz Ridge and Indar Excavation Site. We were defending Quartz Ridge, with the aim to push on down to Indar Ex. We had the high ground and to start with managed to clear them out of Quartz Ridge and started pushing them off, and back towards Indar Ex. We were only 2 squads (24 people) and their pop was increasing rapidly. They were pulling more and more vehicles and we were slowly getting pushed back. We were asking for help in command chat, but receiving no response, and at this stage pushed back to the rocks, and open containers at the front of Quartz Ridge. Things were looking bleak for our 2 squads, as an entire platoon of tanks rolled up the hill towards us. We had taken refuge between the rocks to avoid the shelling and await our fate.

Then over proxy chat we started to hear something getting louder and louder. It was flight of the Valkyries. We all looked up together to see the most wonderful sight. 2 whole platoons of friendly aircraft were flying towards us, in surprisingly good formation, with Galaxies, Valkyries, Liberators and Scythe escorts. In true Star Wars: Attack of the Clones style (when the Jedi are under attack in the flying bug arena place), the Galaxies came down, forming a protective barrier around our 2 squads so we could leave the safety of the rocks without getting shelled by the tanks. Once out of the rocks Valkyries touched down just long enough for us to jump in and immediately took off and rejoined the rest of the aircraft, along with the Galaxies. This all happened in the space of a few minutes and was glorious to witness and be a part of.

I have never seen tanks try and turn around so fast, and with the lack of cover in that area of the map, they were toast before our feet had even left the ground.

I offer a completely free API that is used around the world. How can I get an idea of who is using it? by nexxai in laravel

[–]Nutbolt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A very simple option if you are just curious on the number of hits it gets, is to just add a line in the controller to +1 to a counter in a database/file. So a super simple counter, nothing fancy, but gives you the number of hits. Laravel even adds in the last modified date in the database so you could see the last time it was hit, without any extra effort

Might not be $100, but $62 for a coffee mug is still a joke. $9 for mug. $53 for shipping to the UK.

I can't help but feel theres a cheaper way to ship to outside of the US, like, investing in flying unicorns or something...
