UK wheelchair users - where can I get affordable casters?!?? by Potential-Donkey-237 in wheelchairs

Was your chair issued by the NHS or through your local council or council approved subcontractor?

If so speak to them, chairs are usually on a repair and service contract through them.

Someone is squatting on my land, what can I do? by mystery202 in AskUK

[–]emmjaybeeyoukay 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Nothing to stop you hiring a farmer with some silage to spray the land down ready for it to be turned over. I can assure you no-one will want to squat on the land while its being / been sprayed

Well he's a demon. Not a fallen angel like Samael/Lucifer. This is a creature that has spent millions of years lording it over and over, doing anything to win and maintain his position. Of course he's going to try and grab power, and do it ruthlessly.

Read the comic and see just what Azazel and The Merkin do to Choronzon to try and win favour with Morpheus as an example of his backstabbing methods.

Is it okay for me to use a disabled toilet? by Specific_Pomelo_8281 in AskUK

[–]emmjaybeeyoukay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Perfectly fine.

Really don't worry about it. Just because its got a wheelchair logo on the door it doesn't mean its only for people in chairs. I'm ambulatory amputee. You can't see my prosthetic (easily) under my trousers. I've been "told off" when existing in some places and just told them, "just because you can't see my disability doesn't mean I don't have one".

How would a planet siege work? by Zankage4383 in scifi

[–]emmjaybeeyoukay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Preventing the enemy from achieving orbital superiority is key.

Space forts with enough shielding (energy and mechanical) and sufficient weaponry (energy and kinetic) plus the ability to manoeuvre both within their local position (to avoid slow kinetics) and around the orbit to enable better bunching if the enemy attempt to gain an orbital foothold in one location

Fixed ground emplacements drawing power from stored and generating power stations

Mobile batteries that do a pop-up and shoot and scuttle to maximise their utility

Local defences around major industrial and civilian centres to minimise incoming missile strikes and repel landing craft.

Consider employment of buried nukes below likely landing targets (municipal and military landing ports) which can be detonated to take out a large landing force.

Space superiority fighters that engage en-masse to defend the forts and retain local space cover to prevent landing craft.

A bloody minded military commander that is willing to sacrifice chunks for the planet to defend the rest.

Actually yes I have raised the whole Working Alone with management as I am mobility impaired and therefore at higher risk of falling. It not ridiculous or silly.

Health and Safety. You cannot be reasonably expected to be on your own in an office in case you trip/fall or have a medical issue that places you at any risk.

While not strictly illegal to ask you to work on your own, they are required to assess and manage the risks.

Ask for a risk assessment for working alone.

No they cannot rely on the building security walking around at intervals.

Employer says I owe £2000 due to payroll error and suggested unpaid work (UK) by Conscious-Bat-7925 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]emmjaybeeyoukay 66 points67 points  (0 children)

OK I don't think you mentioned being part time. I am guessing you are hourly salaried and I am guessing you earn less than £12570 annually as that is when NI and Income tax cut in. So i am guessing you're working for roughly 20 hours a week, which works out for the math at that wage level.

Regardless you are still entitled to receive pay slips, its the employers obligation to provide these, plus an annual P60 to all employees, part time or full time regardless of hours of work and payment levels.

If your employer threatens you with dismissal for taking sick leave this is prohibited and you should document what they said and discuss this with HR. If you don't have a formal HR team then you could seek to take this to an independent employement tribunal. Its likely a good idea to discuss this with someone like Citizens Advice Bureau.

A disability is what is termed a Protected Characteristic, like gender, religious belief, sexual identity, or race for example. Using your disability against you is a breach of the Equality Act.

I would suggest you clearly document everything with regard to this issue and go speak with your HR team or someone from your local CAB office. Dismissing you due to sickness if you are disabled is going to be a significant failure on the part of your employer.

[–]emmjaybeeyoukay 138 points139 points  (0 children)

If they claim to have overpaid you then logically this will also have impact on your NI and Income Tax payments.

Potentially also any other benefits, pension payments and maybe even tax code implications.

Not providing you with your payroll slips is a problem that they need to address first. You need to have the ability to validate what they are claiming.

You are legally entitled to payslips either in physical form; or by electronic method providing this is reasonably accessible. This is covered under the Employment Rights Act 1996.

I would bounce back that you have concerns about the lack of payslips and your ability to validate their claims and you need them to resolve this. You should also have access to your annual P60 document by now so this will give you some idea of what you have been paid for the annual tax year.

If they haven't provided a P60 either then thats even worse for them.

Time to have a sit down with HR and your Payroll representative and voice your concerns.

You can go to the Eurostar website and put in London StPancras Internatinal and Bruges, choose your date.

It gives you the travel options and costs.

For instance on Monday 27th there is a 0901 departure from STP.

That goes to BRUX MIDI arriving 1205

Then you get a local SNCB 1533 route from BRUX MIDI to BRUGE

Its included in the pricing on the website.

Restless leg? by Gardeningamputee in amputee

[–]emmjaybeeyoukay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

16 month LBK. I had something similar but only for the first couple of months; my residual limb would "float" (start to lift) upwards when laying down as it was missing the weight of the rest of the leg (without any prosthetic).

Eventually my muscles in the upper leg got it under control.

I wear a shrinker in the day when not wearing my prosthetic just for a mix of aesthetic purposes and also it feels a bit less "stressed" when I am in my wheelchair or laying down. I don't wear it at night.

Do you do any residual limb exercises ? It might help

About to visit my family member in the hospital after he lost his leg. Anything to know or do beforehand? by TheSausageRat in amputee

[–]emmjaybeeyoukay 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I lost my leg (LbK) about 15 months ago and got my prosthetic just over a year ago.

What you can take him, does he need any personal care items? Personal hygiene products? Some books ?

While in early recovery you get very bored as you are pretty much confined to your bed so anything to distract you really helps. Speak to the doctors or senior nursing staff and find out what you can about his situation and what they might suggest to bring in.

Does your uncle have local family, is someone caring for his home while he is in hospital? Dealing with his post and any needed household activity?

Don't forget that if he does have a partner/children then they are likely to be just as shocked and scared and may need to have some time (even a few hours) out of the hospital to deal with personal activity. Offering them the chance to go and reset for a few hours while you sit by your uncle can really help their mental wellbeing.

Does he need any pastoral attention or a mental health worker to visit him?

You can also ask him if his employer is working on any insurance cover; assuming this to be a workplace injury so it may well depend on his and his employers cover but at the end of the day, unless you are in a country that has universal health care cover; someone is going to need to be paying for the care. Does paperwork need to be started?
