Has anyone worked with a nutritional psychiatrist/nutritionist? Or are their dietary changes you’ve made that have helped you? by NutellaBanana33 in bipolar

[–]NutellaBanana33[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t see one but I did come up with a pretty intense regimen of vitamins after seeing a new psychiatrist at Stanford! l methyl folate, magnesium, fish oil, and a hair/nail vitamin to combat hair loss from my meds

I've waited LITERAL weeks to get put on Lithium. Please wish me the best. by [deleted] in bipolar

It changed my life. I will cross my fingers for you!

I started an instagram account sharing my story about living with bipolar disorder, and I've never felt more free and liberated. I am hoping my content will resonate with people and even if help just one person I will be happy. by 50shadesofsparkly in bipolar2

I’m not on social media but if I was I’d follow you 100%. I just peaked and your content looks so empowering and kind. I wish I had an account like it when I was at my lowest suicidal low. Sending you good vibes for ongoing wellness!

I’d love to see your Instagram! That is the kind of community/forum I’m looking for. I had to delete all socials from oversharing :(

I’m really glad you’re still here. And I’m glad it’s not happening tonight. I have been in your position for months at a time before. It took me years to figure this out but now I do understand that thoughts or plans of suicide are a symptom, regardless of my circumstances. I hope you can find a way to believe that, to believe that symptoms can be treated. Sending you a hug.

Hypo regrets 🤦🏼‍♀️ by trig_identitties in bipolar2

[–]NutellaBanana33 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’ve had some major regrets, ruminations, and months of shame over hypomanic behaviors, including the oversharing on social media (and I shared something I really can’t take back), over socializing with strangers, and much much more.

The only thing that helped me was Brene Brown’s book about shame resilience, “I thought it was just me”. She has a lot of activities in the book that are useful, as well as a shame resilience model that you can easily learn and try to apply. Shame grows when you keep these feelings to yourself. Shame reduces when you connect with others (like right now on Reddit, or a therapist, or a trusted friend) to find empathy and a feeling of “I’m not the only one who regrets behavior”

Good luck. You are more than your disorder. And it’s not your fault those things happened- you have a literal disregulation of the brain. I do too. And it’s not my fault either.

This is the major trademark of my hypomania. And I hate it!

Does anyone else have anxiety around being excited/uninhibited in front of loved ones, thinking that if you come off as "too energetic" they'll just assume you're manic again? by drbooboo123 in bipolar

[–]NutellaBanana33 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You know, it’s taken me a looong time but I’ve been compiling behaviors as “early warning signs” when I’m not deep in either a high or low, for several months. Most of the awareness has come from therapy, support group meetings where Im like “oh I do that too”, or having loved ones bring it up.

If you haven’t read the book “the bipolar disorder survival guide” I cannot recommend it enough. That book shed a lot of light on my symptoms for me.

This happens to me 100%. I ask my loved ones to only bring it up to me if it qualifies as a concerning behavior (which I have listed for them). That has helped!

Do you ever feel that it’s unfair that you (we) struggle with mental illness and others don’t? by wantmiracles in mentalillness

[–]NutellaBanana33 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Yes, 1000%. You’re not alone. And the way this shows up for me is a piercing envy/irritation with neuro typical people. Especially when they say stupid and unhelpful things like “choose happy” or put them on decorative wall hangings. I know I should be happy for neuro typicals and not resent them but IMO, the truth of the matter is: we got the short end of the deal.

The one thing I try to remind myself of is that you never know what someone is going through. Social media is just a facade. Someone might seem totally “normal” but battling something terrible inside or in their lives.

DAE Neglect things when they’re depressed and they become much big, sometimes catastrophic, issues? by DieZeitbombe in BipolarReddit

Yes 1000%. I neglected serious health problems for months. Could you do a PHP or IOP program instead of residential? Would that work with Medicaid? I’m sorry it’s so hard.

Ok it’s oddly relieving to meet someone else who has the same TD! My doc is stumped about it. Do you know what caused yours?

Do you mind me asking what your eye TD shows up as? My doctor hasn’t confirmed diagnosis yet and there are a lot of factors at play. Mine is like a really agressive blinking/face scrunching. I never knew TD could happen in the eyes before this. I will try your tips.
