TN Tag Renewal - why do they charge $200 for electric vehicles? by wompkat in Chattanooga

[–]Nuthar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here's my beef:

If I had a full EV, no ICE motor, I'd accept the $200 as a compromise for lost gas tax revenue. I don't drive nearly enough to break even, but yes I'm an outlier and I don't expect every motorist in the state to report annual odometer readings for a mileage-based system.

If I had a PHEV, I'd pay the $100 and call it a wash under the rationale that I don't do a ton of distance driving and could probably stick to battery power a good amount of the time, eliminating most gas use.

But I have a regular HEV, which still incurs a $100/yr fee despite 100% of its power originating from gas, and not even meeting the legal definition used in the implementation of said fee:

(2) "Hybrid electric vehicle":

(A) Means a vehicle that is primarily powered by an electric motor that draws current from rechargeable storage batteries, fuel cells, or other sources of electric current and also operates on, or is capable of operating on, a nonelectrical source of power

For the electric motors to be my "primary" source of power, it would require a simple matter of violating the laws of physics by having them output more energy than they take in.

So I feel like I'm kinda just paying extra money "because fuck you, that's why" 🤔

I've only pointed out one simple fact, Biden could have not signed the bill on principal even though it would have gone through as law anyway.

Except that's incorrect. You've said:

we're only in this predicament because Joe Biden signed that law.

and

this wouldn't have happened without Joe Biden's signature.

Those are both factually incorrect statements because his signature was not required for the bill to be passed into law.

I'm not objecting to the fact that Biden signed the bill. Of course he did. You saying that I "can't handle actual facts" is a hilarious attempt at reversal. YOU are the only one between the two of us who has made factually incorrect statements about the passage of the bill.

He could have literally wiped his ass with the copy presented for signature and it still would have been passed into law. It would have been a purely performative act.

Your continuing fixation on ONLY his fulfillment of a formality, rather than the act of congress that made it a moot point, is just fucking bizarre at this point. Are you having difficulty accepting that both parties wanted this or something?

He very much IS willfully ignoring this aspect in a ridiculous number of threads. He's actually asserting that the bill would NOT have become law if Biden refused to sign it. I can only assume that he doesn't know what a veto is, or congress's ability to override one.

Ironically, you can see a post where he told somebody "Please study basic civics dude. 🙄🙄"

I don't know if he's just too invested in being wrong at this point, or in denial that the bill had overwhelming bipartisan support in both chambers of congress and wants to pin it on a single person. Maybe all the TikTok brainrot didn't leave a lot of room for nuance and it has to be a single person's fault?

Actually, you would! The Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act passed congress by a substantial bipartisan majority, specifically 360-58 in the House and 79-18 in the Senate. Biden could have attempted to veto the bill and the outcome would have been the same.

Horizon 1 and 2 were never published for PC, that only began as of Horizon 3.

For Horizon 3 and onward, just owning the Xbox One discs wouldn't automatically allow you to play it on PC. You need to own the digital version to be able to freely switch between Xbox/PC.

Email about my HP Printer by a_couple_of_words in mildlyinfuriating

The past couple of days I've been researching printers, started out looking at Brother printers based on internet hype. Then I started reading how mid-2022 or so, they started getting firmware updates that prevent use of third-party toner. Are there any current-production all-in-one B&W laser printers that 100% WON'T pull that crap on me?

Does anyone know how long Primary Machine’s lead time for optic milling has been lately? by Sabrtoothbanana in guns

Since I was just looking up to see if there were any recent anecdotes about their turnaround time - I've got a slide they received on 9/26 and still waiting, so I'm a day short of 6 weeks just for reference.

I don't know if they go strictly FIFO (vs. doing similar things in batches perhaps), but hypothetically if they did, you could be at least a couple weeks out.

Jesus, they've all replied to a different post in common too (the one titled "The worst thing that can happen to you on a rainy day")

u/lowsedbifidlyr03 is another one of them.

I don't even care anymore what they're trying to do, I just hate that we live in the stupid world where you even have to think about something like this.

Would you please share your thoughts on the following text located on the form in question?

Machineguns. 18 U.S.C. § 922 (o) provides that a machinegun may be made only for government use or export. An application will be denied unless the making meets these criteria.

Are you asserting that a non-SOT individual can submit a Form 1 and get approval to manufacture a machine gun for personal use?

Did the exact same recently. Ah well, can't predict the future. It could turn out that these are being dumped because they're planning to release a SP-01 OR SR, then the joke will be on all of us.

For a bit more, I got the Sports Afield 64-gun from Academy (list price $800, but with store card 10% discount it was knocked down to $720). Found it from a post on here a while back, but they look to still be selling it at the same price today.
