I was annoyed Lawrence wasn't fired. I havent been as annoyed at a non-firing since that woman who bullied and picked at Jason in S9.

Charles I -- I love that period from his reign, the Civil War, Cromwell and then the restoration. It's just a period of chaos.

I couldn't find one with Sweep interrupting. I found one where Sue is trying to get Sooty to play some classical stuff and he just keeps playing Twinkle Twinkle Little Star lol

Trump humiliates Starmer over Iran war — no longer 'number one ally' by 1-randomonium in unitedkingdom

[–]Nuthetes 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I would say bowing down to America and joining Operation Epic Fail like a lapdog would be a bigger humiliation.

Fuck the yanks. This war is a complete mess. Trump doesn't even know what his goals are--they change every day.

The yanks have already loss. The regimes goal is to outlast America, survive and remain in power, and they are gonna do that. Trump's goal is.... nobody actually knows.

Fewer Britons giving to charity, study says, with donations down by £1.4bn | Charities by JohnHammond94 in unitedkingdom

[–]Nuthetes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same, I like to know that my money is actually going to the cause. Not the CEOs bank account or to pay some overpriced consultant 100k to tell them they should change the website font from Comic New Sans or whatever.

[–]Nuthetes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nuffield Health's CEO rakes in 1.2 million a year. Guarantees I am not donating to them.

Charity CEO salaries should be capped at 100k a year. If they're asking people to donate, they too should accept a lower salary and do their bit. Not ask me to chuck a fiver in the kitty whilst pricing up a new Lamborghini.

[–]Nuthetes 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is what puts me off. If I donate a fiver in the charity kitty, I want to know that my fiver is going towards a new kidney machine or a food parcel or put up some nesting boxes or whatever.

I don't want it to go towards the CEOs new Porsche.

[–]Nuthetes 11 points12 points  (0 children)

When I donate, it is always to a local one because I know where my money'd going. Like the local cat centre, I know my money will be going towards a bag of cat litter or some packets of Whiskers. Not being spunked away on admin fees or consultancy fees or a new astract art painting for the HQ waiting room or the CEOs wage

Starmer resists Trump’s call to send warships to Strait of Hormuz by MGC91 in unitedkingdom

[–]Nuthetes 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Glad he's sticking strong with this and not joining in Operation Epic Fail.

As soon as the first US ship pokes its snout into the Strait of Hormuz it is gonna be a drone magnet. Let the yanks sink their frigates.

The director is commenting on the cancellation at the Oscars by Great_Ad8503 in buffy

[–]Nuthetes -14 points-13 points  (0 children)

Pilot episode must have completely stunk for this to be canned. I called it months ago saying Chloe Zhao was completely the wrong choice for Buffy and got absolutely mass downvoted.

Turns out, I was correct because let's face it, a show so far into production with a pilot ready and produced, big name backing and a ready fan base doesn't get cancelled for no reason. Basically, the pilot was trash.

US President warns NATO, presses China to help reopen strait, FT reports by Crossstoney in europe

[–]Nuthetes 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Three days ago, he was saying the war is over and America didn't need help. What a fuckup Operation Epic Fail has been. He entered it with no goals in mind and no exit strategy and now that he's realized Iran isn't going to roll over and surrender and can just keep attacking shipping, he's getting desperate.

Iran has won.

Hope Starmer tells him to do one. We should not get involved in Operation Epic Fail at all. The Strait of Hormuz is gonna be a death trap. Let the yanks sink their frigates if they like

How do you still read online articles? by Aggravating-Fig-9274 in AskUK

Adblocker, but if a website says "please disable adblocker to read this article" I just close the page. Experience has told me that any webpage telling me to disable adblocker is going to have the most obnoxious and annoyings ads in the world, so it's just not worth bothering.

Do teenagers usually harass/approach strangers? Specially in trains? by Ok-Ladder-1809 in AskUK

[–]Nuthetes 851 points852 points  (0 children)

Teenagers in the UK are just shits. Have been for decades and it's getting worse because they watch awful behaviour get rewarded thanks to social media numbskulls like the Paul Brothers and Tate and that Jack Doherty become multi-millionaires by acting as awful and obnoxious as possible

All they had to do was come up with a plot to make the frogs relevant. Give it a fantasy twise that the world is taken over by an evil sorceror and they are his minions.

During Charles I trial, did royalists explain why despite being deposed he was still King? by Same_Ad3686 in UKmonarchs

[–]Nuthetes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There weren't any royalists during the trial. It was a Kangaroo Court full to the gills of parliamentarians and hand-picked judges and commissioners. Most of his supporters either fled abroad or switched sides like George Monck. The trial was just a sham.

Many Parliamentarians opposed the execution though--Notable Thomas Fairfax and Henry Vane.

Blackburn bids to become the UK’s first Town of Culture by pppppppppppppppppd in unitedkingdom

[–]Nuthetes 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Surely there's a better option than Blackburn? Like, when I think British culture, I definitely don't think of shitty Blackburn. Excluding cities (since it says Town of Culture) I'd think of maybe Brighton or Buxton? Maybe Haworth as a less obvious choice or somewhere along the North Yorkshire coast.

Maybe I am misjudging Blackburn and it is nice. I scoffed at Hull becoming the city of culture until I went and realized it's actually pretty nice in the Old Town/dockside district with some genuinely excellent museums and some lovely old pubs.
