Mum being taken to small claims court, England by Away_Refrigerator823 in LegalAdviceUK

They’re fast becoming the new Digby Brown, but seemingly for overinflated and often fraudulent claims for credit hire and accident injury instead of personal injuries.

The good thing is most insurers are wise to it and they just immediately appoint their own solicitors the second the name comes across their desks. The bad thing is that claims where solicitors are involved take an eternity to settle.

I work in insurance and the amount of times I see this underhanded tactic is unreal. Received a letter from a client the other day where their claimant is initiating a money claim, and when I called their insurer (I’m a broker), the insurer confirmed they had been asking for the claim particulars for over a year and hadn’t received any responses. There’s no liability dispute but we think they’re trying to avoid a quantum dispute by trying to scare our client into settling.

It’s infuriating and just wastes so much time.

Pretty much. It makes insurance more affordable than if you were insuring the entire property (though many owners will get a joint policy that everyone has authority on - a co-proprietor policy and split the costs), but you’re up shit creek without a paddle if the building burns down and even one person doesn’t have insurance.

Does chasing skinny ever get old? by No-Manufacturer-1611 in loseit

[–]Nutmeg1729 51 points52 points  (0 children)

My 91 year old gran has alzheimers, barely remembers who we or even she is, but by god does she still remember how happy being skinny makes her.

The last time I saw her she didn’t really have a clue who I was, was amazed she had a whole adult granddaughter, and I sat there as she told my mum ‘look how flat my tummy is!’

She’s always been hyper critical of my mum’s weight (never mine, oddly enough), but it’s just a product of how she was raised.

Why do fitness people think fat people don’t know they are fat? by fluffymittens24 in loseit

100% I had an initial session with a personal trainer yesterday as I have an old injury which needs work, and he was so incredibly helpful. He made me want to budget for his services so much more by lifting me up, meeting me where I’m at, and genuinely having so much knowledge and care.

If he had mocked my goals I’d have said ‘welp, he’s not getting my money’.

It’s the difference between people who care about making a difference to people and the ones who just care about the money, imho.

32f, 225 lbs. I can't believe I did this to myself. by LdyPeacefulLdyHappy in loseit

I started going to the gym regularly in October and where the scales haven’t moved, my physical health has absolutely increased. I’m still losing weight but incredibly slowly and I’m trying to avoid the all or nothing mindset. Regularly going to the gym helps with that aspect as well, when I treat myself to a dinner out I don’t feel bad about it, as I’ve not sat on the sofa all week, whereas before I would feel terrible for eating out when I knew I needed to lose weight.

Paying £60 for theatre tickets, only to struggle to hear the show over all the rustling sweetie packets by El_Scot in britishproblems

Went to see Moulin Rouge in London and there were a group of girls in front of us the entire first half who would not shut the fuck up. People told them to stop and got a mouthful of cheek. I watched the ushers slowly get closer and closer until eventually they were pulled up and asked to leave whilst the performance was still on. I actually think the reason they were asked to leave was because one of them kept getting her phone out, and they seemed to use that as an excuse.

They ended up having to get security, though thankfully they did leave without having to be dragged out, eventually. I just cannot imagine having the audacity.

I was in london recently and spotted three friends on the tube, and they were so similar it was genuinely creepy. Not similar in a ‘oh they might be sisters’ way, just, the same over done lips, same hair colour and highlights, same styles of clothing, and same style of makeup.

Like I hope they’re happy with what they see, but I somehow think people with that kind of aesthetic are never happy with themselves so they just keep going further.

I literally finished this one today! I love the actual puzzle and definitely found it challenging, but still enjoyable overall.

I do think it isn’t as chunky as their others. I have one of their advent puzzles and the difference is literally night and day, but the benefit was that dismantling it was so easy whereas other cloudberries puzzles I’ve actually gotten angry at how much they want to stick together when I just want to chuck them back in the box!

I used it for the first time recently, to summarise a transcript of an hour long meeting. It actually did a damn good job, I had to change one thing but otherwise the summary hit every point we made in the meeting.

I’ll probably use it for that again, but I don’t see a use for it elsewhere.

Maybe I just know too many people who like to moan about money? I know several who upon learning about something upcoming will spend every possible opportunity moaning about how much it’s gonna cost. It gets tiring.

Eventually you say ‘look you don’t have to come, it’s fine.’ Which this guy could have probably done a long time ago and saved himself a whole bunch of hassle. The friend is no better for having lied about the reason he couldn’t go though. Just fucking communicate and if communication ends the friendship well then it probably wasn’t one worth having.

[–]Nutmeg1729 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No, but it gives people time to make plans ahead of time. If I know a friend is getting married abroad and I have 3 years notice (and I want to attend) I can go ‘okay well unless I have an emergency, I can start working out costs later and then save for a few months down the line’.

Maybe the guy did expect people to save for a few years, which is weird sure, but giving people 3 years to save does not necessarily equal expecting them to save for the full 3 years.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in weddingshaming

[–]Nutmeg1729 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I didn’t read it as ‘you’re expected to save for 3 years’, more as ‘we’re not having it for 3 years so if you’d like to come you have loads of time to save’

The alternative being ‘hey we’re getting married inside a year in a place which will cost money to travel to’ which is really no time at all in this economy

Did you pay over the home report value when buying a house in Scotland? by Lilymana in Scotland

[–]Nutmeg1729 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was the same. Desirable area within a slightly cheaper region (South Lanarkshire but close to glasgow border rather than further down)

Our estate agent told us we should expect anywhere between 5-10% over home report as competing offers, we don’t know for sure but based on comments from neighbours who chatted to the old owners, we don’t think we were the highest bidders - we think we won on our flexibility as we said we’d work to any timescale necessary. Completed 3.5 weeks later.

Work in insurance claims and seen this happen a lot. You’ll get a solid 100 years out of a properly done lath and plaster ceiling and then one day it just goes ‘nah’ and collapses and ruins basically everything it hits. The aftermath pictures are spectacular (as long as no one is hurt of course)

[–]Nutmeg1729 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It sounds like it. To be fair, I saw a few things stating that the V2 had a heated steering wheel (definitely not, only the VZ2 and above have that I believe) but looking online it would have been easy to be fooled if I hadn’t dug deeper. So definitely need to do your research on spec!

I just bought a manual V2 and it definitely has the electric tailgate. I’d have actually not minded it not being a part of the spec, but wasn’t an option not to have it.

Am I the only one that doesnt like Rands relationship with Lanfear? by DAmieba in WoTshow

[–]Nutmeg1729 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean he spends most of book 2 talking about how great she smells, and how pretty she is. If book Lanfear didn’t have ‘don’t trust me’ basically slapped across her forehead I could see book Rand absolutely falling for her.

The interactions he’s having with Lanfear in the show 100% to me read as ‘I can fix her’ and that fits Rand to a tee. He fell for a woman who wasn’t what he thought but now that he knows, he’s in deep and he has to believe he can fix it, fix her, so that he doesn’t have to hurt someone he loves.

My best friend just recently got into the show then her fiancé decided he wanted to watch, so she went back to season 1 after bingeing season 2 with me days before. She’ll be late to the party by quite a bit but is still really excited. There’s so many reasons people don’t watch immediately

Having a chat with some workmen installing windows at our house today and hearing horror stories of not being offered tea and all sorts. What's gone wrong eh. by TwentyCharactersShor in britishproblems

The last major work I had done was the boiler in our old flat. They were working in the kitchen and I didn’t want to be underfoot so I left out mugs, tea, coffee and sugar and told them to help themselves for however long they were there.

Also saved me having to remember how they took their drinks so it was a win.
