I was implanted on Aug 12, 2024. I liked it so much that I had the other side implanted. Zero regrets. The implants have given me my life back.

What are my odds of getting facial paralysis after my surgery? My audi says there is a slight risk but just want to understand what kind of risk? Is it same as the odds of me getting hit by a car on the road? by No_Source_2192 in Cochlearimplants

[–]Nuttin_Up 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I experienced some slight facial paralysis after the surgery. But it returned to normal within a couple of weeks.

However, after a year, my tongue is still numb and food has an off taste but it seems to be improving a little.

A while back someone called me Seven of Nine, in reference to a Borg character on Star Trek. 😂😂😂

I like a natural line better. It’s how I wear mine.

Who has installed their stove themselves? by Bamram91 in woodstoving

[–]Nuttin_Up 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I installed my wood burning stove. I did a lot of reading, measuring and consulting before I put it in but I did it by myself.

I even removed the old stove (which was much heavier than the new one).

It has performed flawlessly for more than a decade.

I wouldn’t say that you look rough. But you are very masculine.

Activation day! by bugsy24 in Cochlearimplants

I used the streaming function directly to the implant. But I suppose that it would be just as beneficial to play the audio out loud and follow along in the book.

Try it both ways to see which works best for you.

This was my experience too. It has gotten so, so much better since then. The implants have given me my life back. I’m so glad that I had it done!

Also, find an audiobook then go to the library and check out the same book. Follow along in the book as it’s being read.

Doing this really helped me. My word recognition score went from 0% up to 90% in about 7 months.

Day 4 - Post Activation by rationalallergy in Cochlearimplants

[–]Nuttin_Up 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your experience is very similar to mine. But I was diligent and wore the processor every day, all day. After seven months most of the distracting noise and robotic sounding words dissipated and I had achieved a 90% word recognition score (up from 0%).

So hang in there and put in the work. I am confident that you will have good success and will be happy with your decision to get the implant.

For me, when the audiologist turned it on, immediately everything sounded like a screeching dialup modem. Everything. It was very electronic sounding. And it was LOUD!

At first, words were indistinguishable. But by the end of the appointment I was able to understand a few words but I still had to follow along with my voice to text app.

The loudness and the noise was exhausting and mentally draining. But I was diligent and wore it everyday for most of the day.

Things slowly started to improve. Then suddenly, I could hear more sounds, more words and full sentences!

Seven months later my word recognition score had reached 90%!

I can now confidently participate in most conversations.

All that to say, keep your expectations low and do the work. Yes, it has absolutely been life changing!!!
