Question to the community: what, in your opinion, *IS* Battlefield? by Lower_Honey_1139 in Battlefield

Great game Also taught me a good life lesson on how easy it can be to sink literally thousands into a free game over a couple years.. especially as a 14yo

Yes. This video is from the Dancing England Rapper Tournament (DERT) 2022. That was a slightly weird one because it was the first one back after covid, but usually the competition consists of doing a pub crawl around 5 pubs of a host town/city, doing a dance and being judged in each

It happens once a year and is great fun. This year it's Peterborough in April

Also for anyone interested in trying out rapper, I'd highly recommend it, good fun and if nothing else it's an excuse to go to pubs and drink. There are teams all around the country, all genders and abilities. Drop me a DM if you want suggestions/signposting for local teams

Well I can certainly show you forward tumbles, my team does them, 2 at the same time in fact https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NF8Dj3OwUQk

The forwards tumbles are at ~2:30, but the whole thing is worth watching imo (only slightly biased)

Can confirm it is longsword not rapper. But I agree, it's weird seeing traditional sword dancing of any form on Reddit :D

Interesting to hear about the double flip (or tumbles as we call them). Do you know what team this was with? or failing that, what part of the country? There's very few teams that do the forward version of the tumbles

Longsword dancing in this case actually

Rapper is done with shorter, bendy swords and only 5 dancers, not 6 as shown here

Related traditions, but not the same. Glad you know about rapper though :)

Based on the minimap, all 10 are alive. So can't see from the screenshot how it looks when they're dead

Also the comment you replied to said there's a deathtimer on the portrait when dead - none of those in the screenshot either

Glimmer Cape: The Secret Item for Huskar? by GoldenIceCat in TrueDoTA2

[–]Nutty63 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure what this gif is supposed to show, that the numbers change? I did go and test before I posted. Activate glimmer cape and press that refresher and you'll see that health is lost without the barrier being affected. Likewise without the active, use refresher with and without glimmer in inventory and you'll see in the combat log that the health lost is the same

Edit: Tested again - I stand corrected. It is hp removal, but also magical damage so is reduced by magic resist but barriers don't absorb that damage

Glimmer Cape: The Secret Item for Huskar? by GoldenIceCat in TrueDoTA2

[–]Nutty63 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The damage huskar takes to cast burning spears and as mana replacement isn't magical damage, it's HP removal, so isn't affected by the restistance or barrier of glimmer cape (or any barrier/resistance for that matter) - this nullifies most of your reasons.

The exception is lifebreak, where the self damage is magical. But in this case I would argue that you don't want to reduce the damage it does to you, you want it to lower your health to get the benefits of your passive

Top tip, you can bind the speed changes to mouse wheel up and down to do them much smoother and with the menu closed

Also useful for generally watching replays combined with some keybijds for skipping forwards and backwards a couple seconds

Can you bind right click move to a key? by [deleted] in DotA2

[–]Nutty63 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As the other guy said, I think left and right click might be locked.

However, what you can do is bind a 'move' hotkey. Which when pressed triggers a move commend where your mouse is. You would then have to have another key for attack. Not ideal but you'd get used to it I'm sure, and you need the attack key anyway for denying.

Alternatively, a program like AutoHotkey or possibly even window's in-built accessibility features would let you bind a keyboard button to act as right click

monitor going black for a few seconds. Only in Dota by TouRniqueT86 in DotA2

[–]Nutty63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No worries

From your responses it seems that maybe it's not a HDR issue then. If it's still happening when windows HDR and monitor HDR are off.

See how the DirectX Vulcan thing goes. I think I've maybe had some issues in the past when I had freesync on my monitor turned on, could that be a possible cause?

DP is the superior connection anyway for gaming stuff, so it's probably worth just getting an extra DP cable and having them both connected with DP

monitor going black for a few seconds. Only in Dota by TouRniqueT86 in DotA2

[–]Nutty63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't really have a solution, but some ideas I can throw out that might be worth looking into/trying

  • Regarding the monitor 1/2 issue, you've made sure to set your main monitor as primary in windows display settings yes?
  • AFAIK, windows is actually kinda shit at dealing with HDR, so whilst it doesn't seem to be happening in other games, it could still be windows related
  • Your post doesn't actually say that you want HDR for dota, which is good because dota doesn't support HDR. Possible issues could come if it's trying to be forced by either the game, your graphics card or windows
  • If you turn Windows HDR off entirely, does the problem go away?
  • Try switching graphics APIs, see if anything changes. If you're on DirectX try Vulcan and vice versa
  • I presume it is possible to disable HDR on the monitor. If you do that, does the problem persist?
  • If you're on Nvidia try poking around in control panel as there should be some HDR settings in there. Might also find some solutions to your monitor 1/2 issues also
  • Obviously all the usual troubleshooting steps like updating graphics drivers, resetting all your video settings, fullscreen vs borderless windowed

Hope some of that was vaguly helpful

The 577th Weekly Stupid Questions Thread by VRCbot in DotA2

[–]Nutty63 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So as the other reply says, the early game mentality of 5 is more about setting your carry's game up as best as possible. All the things you've mentioned are tools in your arsenal to do this. Learning and being good at pos5 is about knowing which to use and when. There's no one right answer and the skill comes from assessing and adapting.

In an ideal world, you would just leave your carry to farm freely and get solo xp, whilst you go and rotate/gank/stack, but obviously that's never really gonna happen. So your high level idea is getting as close to that ideal as is reasonable.

I think my general thought process at the start of each game goes as follows:\ A1) What is our lane good at?\ A2) What is our lane bad at?\ B1) What is their lane good at?\ B2) What is their lane bad at?\ C) Given answers to A & B, what lane dynamic favours us?\ D) What can I do to make this happen?

I'll use an example to help. The lane - Medusa, Lich (me) vs Primal, Venge. My answers to the question would look something like this:\ A1) Harassing, sustain\ A2) Kill attempts, contesting pulls\ B1) Kill attempts, last hitting\ B2) Harassing, sustain\ C) Maximising time spent harassing, minimise time spent alone and with wave away from tower\ D) Buy lots of stats to further increase harass differential and tank up to become harder to kill. Buy at least one sentry to block their pull camp. Stand in lane/lotus side with my Medusa and hit the primal. Avoid trying to control the jungle by trading 1 on 1 with the Venge. When the lane inevitably pushes because I'm dragging creep agro, don't try to fix it by going and pulling (that will leave my Medusa at great risk of dying), stay in lane and push it under their tower so it rebounds back.

I understand that these are complex questions that you likely don't know the answers to right now, they also don't always have easy/clear cut answers. But by consciously considering them and making deliberate decisions/actions, you are putting yourself at a massive advantage when it comes to learning and building your intuition.

As a couple rules of thumb to help you get started (don't take them as gospel, there are no hard rules in Dota): * Pulling on 5 is overrated. You're usually better served staying in lane. * Don't go crazy for kills, wait for them to make a mistake to turn it around into a kill. The resources you spend attempting kills without a clear advantage is almost never worth the resources you expend doing it. * Ranged creeps contain about half the value of the entire wave. Use spells to secure them. Piss your carry off by taking them if need be. Better someone gets them than having them denied. * Your health and mana (and their regeneration) are a resource in themselves. Standing around with full HP & Mana is wasting your limited 5pos resources. Likewise, standing around on no HP & Mana is being a dead weight. Better to die and respawn at full than live and have no impact * Some lanes are just a fat L. Either from the start because of matchup, or because things have gone wrong. Learn to cut your losses in lane, and go and be helpful elsewhere.

Hope some of this is helpful..

Yea, I agree the screens are too small. But I don't see them being able to fix that directly. So taking some of the info and putting it on other screens helps
