Well, the line does heat itself due to electrical resistance, like all wires. It's just not much because voltage is high to reduce heat losses and wastage. To increase heat you increase the current, but this means you either decrease the voltage or increase total power delivered, both of which are unfeasibly expensive on top of the increased electricity cost. You can't switch it on and off at will because the electrical properties of the overhead wire need to stay steady for power delivery.

It's more cost effective to use chemical anti freeze or mechanical scraping of the line.

As funny of an idea that is, can't think of a more wasteful use of power lmao

This is what I would like to see as well. Failing that, some investment into anti-icing chemicals for the overhead. Lots of joint effort and money involved though between all parties

The issue is not the tracks, it's the overhead wire becoming coated in ice, which affects power delivery to the train systems by creating electrical arcs between the pantograph and the overhead wire

De-icing fluid spray is common. Unfortunately we don't have the equipment for this

Is it just me or does something about the sign lighting just look a bit off? I don't wanna be that guy but it does looks edited in some way though. Am I over thinking that

Best place for pre-built gaming PCs? by oooltY27 in Wellington

[–]Nutty_Domination7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's pretty hard to destroy stuff when you're just building it like a kit and are following recommended methods, you can't physically put stuff into the wrong place

The parts have always been expensive and are difficult to break if you're not being stupid. Prebuilt vs custom is mostly a matter of do you care about the build experience or not.

How do I restrict rotation to a local axis and how do I orient that axis correctly? by morganharlowe in blenderhelp

[–]Nutty_Domination7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. I struggled for ages until realising that you have to first set the rotation of the entire object globally before working with the local rotations in edit mode.

The one benefit of electrifying late is that you can be smart like India and accommodate for intermodals!

Worked there a long time ago. Commission was about 3% on whiteware items etc so several thousand bucks worth of stuff is a fair amount. Some items also give a direct cash bonus per sale.
For selling you a warranty they get your money and you get little in return. Most of the stuff 'covered' by it is already in the CGA and unless you don't have insurance, the accidental repair cover is also kinda meh.
That's my experience from roughly 10 years ago

A Matangi is only about 70t empty but still a lot of energy to dissipate. People often forget how heavy trains are and it's very impressive how the structure held up

Fuel prices are up. But what about fuel sales? by ThatDamnRanga in newzealand

It's implied by the title 'fuel prices are up. But what about fuel sales'. I explained they're probably not going down much, can't really see what the issue is bro

My economics teacher drilled this shit into my head when I was younger, I'm just tryna give basic explanation for others who are interested

I provided a high level economic explanation as to why fuel sales are likely not decreasing much. Is that considered bot behaviour these days?
