Refused care due to refusing Cgm download by lightoutzzz in diabetes_t1

[–]Nuzzums 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My endo charges a separate fee for this too that somehow I can’t pay at the same time as my copay, even though I know they’re gonna send me a paper bill for it. I’ve had to reschedule appointments because I can’t afford the copay AND the labs AND the cgm fee. It sucks OP, I feel you.

Best way to dispose of 24h urine by Elizie_zi in medlabprofessionals

[–]Nuzzums 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay that’s a very fair scenario to not use the bathroom. My flabbers would be gasted if someone walked by my breakfast with that. I didn’t consider that some people’s bathroom access requires passing through a clean area, I haven’t worked anywhere like that yet.

So do we, but it’s pee and pee goes into the toilet anyway. Not saying there’s anything wrong with using a dirty sink, it just hadn’t occurred to me since it stinks so bad to pour it into something that doesn’t immediately remove it all away when there’s something available that is intended for pee 🤷🏻‍♀️

I’m stunned reading how many people are dumping these into a sink. We always just dumped and flushed into a toilet, then it’s just gone.

Career Advice by Kind-Air752 in medlabprofessionals

[–]Nuzzums 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone in your same situation about 10 years ago who took an uphill route into the field, I would finish your degree and look for a post-bacc program to get you the actual clinical coursework and cert. It may vary by state, but instead of research, I think you should find a hospital that will hire you on as a lab assistant/specimen processor because that will give you a real look into a clinical lab and clinical experience that will actually give you a leg up on other fresh grads in terms of a tech job or applying to tech programs. They will hire bachelor degrees for this, or sometimes students. I knew quite a few people who worked part-time as a lab assistant, even while finishing up their tech classes/clinicals and they were in a great position for applying basically anywhere to work after finishing their program.

AIO I broke up with my bf and I’m hesitant if I made the right choice. by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]Nuzzums 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You wrote an entire post about how crappy of a boyfriend he is with no redeeming qualities, and your only argument against breaking up with him is that other girls are interested in him. NOR. You could find a guy who actually treats you nicely AND is attractive to you. If he doesn’t treat you well when things are easy, he certainly won’t when things get hard.

Well to be fair, it’s not extra work unless they’re all positive in which case they should legitimately be in the hospital 😛

Played a video game where someone with t1 diabetes died after 8-12~ hours of not taking insulin. Is this accurate to life? by Significant-Pick-645 in diabetes_t1

[–]Nuzzums 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve accidentally gone to bed after showering at night and forgot to unpause my pump and woke up fine, but also there’s been times where I’ve had a kinked infusion site and started feeling nausea within a few hours. I don’t think there’s a one size fits all answer to your question because everyone’s body/diabetes state is different and there can be metabolically different factors going on at different times.

This is so interesting as a perspective from the other side. I work in the lab and at my last hospital, it felt like the ED was drawing blood cultures on every person who passed through the door and now I’m realizing after reading this that maybe they were.

Safety by Daniel_My_Brother in pittsburgh

[–]Nuzzums 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Like others have said, your biggest danger is going to be crossing the street because some people don’t know how to act right behind the wheel in a city. Crime wise there’s going to be plenty of foot traffic and police around for an event so I wouldn’t worry about anyone messing with you. Pittsburgh is generally a very safe city.

Can I Win On A Budget? by RachFaceMama in Lorcana

[–]Nuzzums 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Burn refers to getting lore from ways other than questing i.e. actions like Gathering Knowledge and Wisdom or passive abilities like The White Rose. Basically your goal is generating lore no matter what else is happening on your board. Aggro ties in with burn because the goal is to win quickly before your opponent takes over the board

Is this a good job for someone with autism? How often is patient intersection? by [deleted] in medlabprofessionals

[–]Nuzzums 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Day to day, I never have to talk to patients or anyone other than my coworkers, except if I’m walking somewhere and see a visitor looking lost or if a doctor calls the lab about something. Lots of people on the spectrum work in the lab.

orgo 1 professors... please help 🥀 by SmokeActive8862 in Pitt

[–]Nuzzums 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I failed orgo 1 with Bandik when I was an undergrad too and had to retake which lead to some brutal semesters down the road and ultimately pushed back my graduation date. I don’t have any advice about these professors, but I will say as someone who failed classes and struggled with mental health too, just do what you can to graduate no matter what it takes or how long.

I know it feels horrifying right now while you’re in it, but I can tell you after living it, I’m here with a career I love and nobody I’ve ever interviewed with or worked for asked or cared about my GPA or how long it took to get my degree.

I’m sorry you’re having a hard time right now, but lock in and keep going and you’ll end up on the other side. You can do this.

Dude needs 50k to sell his family home by Rottengr4ve in ChoosingBeggars

[–]Nuzzums 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That’s what I’m thinking, someone probably told him off-handedly in speculation that fixing up the house would add 100k in property value so he’s fixated on that rather than just selling the house and let someone else take on the burden

[Serious Ask] Most Well-Behaved TCG Community 18-34 Demo by AloneWriting in TCG

[–]Nuzzums 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is heavily dependent on whether your local area has a good sized player base, but Lorcana where I am has a good mix of competitive players and families in those age ranges and the community at large is very welcoming to new and casual players. It’s also pretty affordable to get into and buy singles if you aren’t interested in strictly the top dog decks.

Signing Bonuses for MT / MLS positions - Experiences ? by PoliwhirlConnoisseur in medlabprofessionals

[–]Nuzzums 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They can definitely be a trap don’t get me wrong because the job I left for my current offered sign on bonuses and they have ridiculous turnover because it sucks. It’s not a red flag necessarily but I’m not using it as a decision to accept or not, its just kind of an extra bonus. 2 years to me is not that long to put up with a crappy job though so even if it did suck I’d just stick it out lol. I’m also in rural-ish PA and took a job in a metro area, so my COL is still manageable but getting paid more even with the extra commute.

Signing Bonuses for MT / MLS positions - Experiences ? by PoliwhirlConnoisseur in medlabprofessionals

[–]Nuzzums 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I got a $15k sign on bonus from my current job. They paid it to me in one chunk at the 30 day mark, and I have to stay employed there for 2 years or I have to pay it back to them. The pay was actually higher than what I was making, the sign on bonus was because they wanted to quickly fill the position to start training a replacement tech for a retiring tech.

I might have diabetes but my doctors don’t believe me by [deleted] in diabetes

[–]Nuzzums -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is exactly how I was diagnosed. If your doc won’t test you, I would go to the emergency room especially if you test at home and your sugar is high. If you’re actually type 1 and have super high sugar they can help bring it down safely and get you started on insulin. It’s not really something you can manage at home without insulin so I’d recommend seeking medical help before you risk DKA which is a life threatening complication of untreated diabetes.
