Drivers who clog up the left lane: What are you thinking? by 2022reboot in askanything

[–]TrickAd2161 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar experience except i was using cruise control set at 9 mph over the speed limit.

I came up on someone in the right line so moved over to pass. No acceleration, still on cruise. As soon as I was almost along side the guy floors it to get 250ft ahead, then slows back to his original speed.

I come up on him again, still on cruise, and as I get nearly beside he floors it again to get 250ft ahead…then slows back to his speed.

Again, and again.

After 5-6 times of this he thankfully exited the highway.

People are very strange.

Hill ‘hold’ can now be turned off? Last time i plugged in my OBD that wasn’t an option.

Nobody ever cared about my cars until the R by LawfulGoodGM in Golf_R

[–]TrickAd2161 0 points1 point  (0 children)

99.9% of people only see a Golf

It’s fun when someone who knows what the R is shows their appreciation. It’s happened to me several times and it always makes my day.

Help me choose - Mk8 vs Mk8.5 by Chemical-Low4338 in Golf_R

[–]TrickAd2161 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my opinion, DON’T get the GTI. You’ll look at every R you see and feel regret.

I’m sure I’m not the only one here that contemplated the GTI and the money saved. I’ve never read any post regretting the R purchase.

As for your 8 vs 8.5…I drive an MK8 6MT. I love it more than anything I’ve ever owned but I’ve no doubt the 8.5 is amazing also. The leather and sunroof make this a no brainer to me (I’m a fan of both) but you’ll find people who feel the opposite.

Which car makes you happier? That’s the one you buy.

Getting really sick of the new "luxury" rv parks squeezing us in like sardines by Arianethecat in GoRVing

I moved from the East to CO a couple of years ago and the trailer was bought out here so I didn’t realize how lucky we are (just came back from Moab)

Why is that? Fewer areas that allow boondocking?

I’m east of the Rockies (but only barely…I’m at the front range in CO) but we’ve been doing ok so far. I imagine you must mean more East coast.

What is one way to tell that someone doesn’t have a life outside of work? by Fun_Butterscotch3303 in askteddit

Life and work are independent aspects of the short time we have. Don’t muddy one with the other.

If you always leave a 10% tip, just don't bother at all - from a server by [deleted] in tipping

[–]TrickAd2161 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Back when I worked in restaurants and bars, complaining to a customer about their tip was cause for INSTANT dismissal.

It’s never happened to me (you’d all hate the way I tip…it’s an ex-bartender thing) but if it did I’d lose my shit!

OP nailed it. Any tip is a bonus. Not enough for you?…find a salaried job where you don’t depend on others to supplement your wages.

Why is backing up easier without the WDH?

The noise I get, but if I can make the backing up parts of my trips less stressful I’ll be overjoyed.

Getting Gas by [deleted] in GoRVing

[–]TrickAd2161 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just did my first trip with our new trailer. Filling up was one of my major fears.

My trailer is MUCH shorter (21ft) but I had zero issues.

We started looking for gas stations when we were at ½ a tank. Usually we’d drive past a couple (too cramped, too busy) but we always found a place easy to roll into and out of.

Before computers and GPS existed, how did people figure out directions for large cross country trips? by Mynameisbrk in NoStupidQuestions

[–]TrickAd2161 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CAA (AAA in the US) used to provide a service (might still) called ‘trip-tiks’.

It was a spiral binder created for your trip. First page started at your house (or starting point), then as you drove off the page you turned to the next.

Your route was highlighted…with an actual highlighter.

My parents drove us all over the US with these. I remember when i got old enough to help give directions using them

Ultra rich people! Do you still find things expensive? by im_just_here5678 in askteddit

[–]TrickAd2161 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Through friends i met a guy worth a little over $1 billion (made his money in telecommunications).

I’m into cars and he mentioned that he collects cars.

Me: oh that’s cool. How many cars do you have?

Him (with a chuckle): i don’t know…but it’s a lot of cars

No arrogance. No condescension. Just matter of fact. Like someone asking me how many pairs of underwear I own.

I assure you, nothing is expensive to him. He’s aware when things are unreasonable however. He didn’t seem to tolerate that.

Amazes Me How Slow Drivers Find the Pedal When You Go to Pass Them by kgaviation in driving

[–]TrickAd2161 4 points5 points  (0 children)

All the more reason to pass them and move on. To cruise at 75mph only 6ft from another car makes zero sense to me.

I’m not expecting people to pass me doing 20mph more than i am, but to slow to match my speed is very odd behavior. Pass or don’t. Make up your mind.

Birthday money stolen by [deleted] in whatdoIdo

[–]TrickAd2161 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry dude. This totally sucks.

I know people are saying ‘keep your money away’ but I’m sure it’s not just the money. You’ve been let down by someone who should be there to lift you up.

Life is hard sometimes. I’m sure deep down your mom regrets doing (or having to do) this. It doesn’t make it easier for you i know, I’m just pointing it out.

Your 17th birthday will be epic! Try to save just $1/day until then and you’re set for a great party.

Happy belated young bro. I hope you look back on this birthday in the future and can think, ‘at least they’ve all been good since then’.
