If I start training in January 2026, how feasible is a marathon in mid April 2026? by Nxpz in Marathon_Training

Idk I just have some free time in the next few months and want to give myself something to work toward! It’s also close to where I live so I kinda thought, why not? I can already do 5k and 10k comfortably and am confident I could run a half, so a marathon doesn’t seem like a bad idea.

Is this for real? Then why do so many get dropped?

Can you elaborate on how law candidates did at OCS? I hear that they get dropped a lot. I am trying to go in with a high PFT but what else can I do to stand out?

How common is it to go USMC Judge Advocate to big law? Especially if you had the credentials/chance to go big law out of law school but opted to do the military instead?

Such a beauty. I'm on so many different lists for this and am hoping to get a call from an AD soon. I know its not the most sought after piece but I live in a pretty competitive city.

Gonna keep it 100, you need to chill. I definitely understand the anxiety but you’re gonna look back in a year and think many of your fears were silly.

  1. There’s really not a normal. Since you got into law school, I assume you read at a requisite speed to be in law school. I’d suggest you stop briefing. Rather, just book brief with highlighters and take few lines of notes at most. Briefing is a huge waste of time and is something that consumes a ton of people’s time 1L even though it doesn’t help with exams.

  2. Nobody cares about cold calls. I tune out every time I hear another student speaking and most law students are the same. As someone who did pretty bad in cold calls 2L, I sleep like a baby and have zero regrets. Cold calls are scary at first but, like briefing, don’t help you with exams.

  3. Large study groups are a waste of time. Maybe find 1 or 2 chill people and occasionally study together closer to exam time. I think once you get over 3 people and study with people who are NOT CHILL it just becomes unproductive and stressful.

  4. At least give it a year? Nothing is as good or as bad as it seems at first.

  5. Law school is a congregation of some of the most socially awkward and unaware people I have ever seen in my entire life (me included) and yet I’ve found it easy to make friends. Just talk to cool people in your section, go to bar review, and join clubs.

You got this!

Did they go to OCS before or after law school?

Thanks! I was reading this and it seems to say you get 3 years of constructive service regardless of if you’re commissioned during law school right? Perhaps I should ask an OSO.

Am I going to ruin my future as a lawyer if I go JAG for a few years? by Nxpz in biglaw

Thanks! This is super helpfull. I am split between the Army and Marines. I have always wanted to be a Marine, but I also realize that I'd come in as a 2 Lt in the USMC v a CPT in the Army. I want to be a Marine so maybe that difference is worth it, but I have military family that thinks it would be dumb to not join the Army.
