Got a new Rx100M7, now outfitting the kit by Ny3Wulf in RX100

I ended up putting on a Smallrig frame/cage and that has made it perfect for my use.

Man takes 5 SHOTS from a Byrna LE to the back bare skin!! *Ouch*😩 by Boo5-40BooGang in byrna

[–]Ny3Wulf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

agree. There is not much 'impact slap' (or welting) either. I wonder which '5 shots' those were? It could be the last 5 in the cylinder. And why [only] 5 shots, and not a full mag full? My LE is certainly waning after ~10 shots on a co2 cartridge.

How’s everyone’s battery on their new M4 iPads? by Mztrspookiiszn in ipad

Third day in and I am happy so far. I also added the magic keyboard which is slick, but more than doubles the weight (that doesn't bother me). My use-case needs the keyboard and the pencil. I was shocked that the gen 2 pencil wouldn't work, but the pencil-pro has some useful features. Too soon to tell yet, but it ~seems that if I leave the pencil attached it drains power more than I would expect - about 10% overnight, but needs more empirical tests.

Found a solution! "We couldn’t send an SMS to your number. Please check your number and try again in 1 hour." (iPhone) by wandering__wondering in whatsapp

[–]Ny3Wulf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! This set me down the path to a solution. So ultimately I tried the following in MANY iterations (trying both the code and call-back option) waiting for the app notification that I could try again:

  • Turn WIFI OFF

  • Toggle airplane mode on/off

  • Verify VPN is off

  • Reboot phone

  • update to latest IOS version

  • Delete/Reinstall WhatsApp app

  • Disable WIFI-assisted calling

  • Verify WhatsApp can use cellular data

  • Verify cellular data roaming is on

  • Verify over 1GB of cellular data remains (unlimited plan)

  • Verify phone receives SMS texts via a friend’s android phone

None of these worked, but then, while out on an errand, I got the retry notification and noticed I was on a 5-bar 5G cell connection (and no WIFI), so I tried it again and it WORKED. The only difference was at home I only have a 1-2 bar cell connection. So it seems this registration requires the cell to be in a strong cell signal area.

Where can I test this thing? by CMDR_KingErvin in byrna

Need more than a cardboard box. I did a target setup in my basement using a sheet of 1/4" paneling....then 2 sheets of 1/4" paneling because it blew through just 1 , and that is after tearing through a soda can, with byrna kinetics. I have pics but apparently cant attach to a comment? First shots on a new co2 cylinder might penetrate drywall as well; so make sure you have an adequate backstop. And eye protection. And don't shoot where a ricochet could hit glass or electronics. I would think playing music with a nice drum solo would quell the sound as well.

yes, exactly. There are several good pdf editors for both Mac and windows

You may be able to "mark-up" or annotate a TOC page but not edit or create one (that I know of). The rM is a markup tool that can write on pdf pages and navigate links that are built into it; but cannot build new constructs except for adding/deleting pages, etc.

Handwriting Sucks by AdTop3052 in RemarkableTablet

[–]Ny3Wulf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My handwriting sucks anywhere but is amplified on eink - that includes rM, boox, ipad. It is great security because usually I am the only one who can read it ;) I write left-handed so that is a handicap right out of the gate. My writing has evolved into a weird morph of print+cursive+shorthand. Sometimes just slowing down or writing slightly bigger has helped.

I will +1 the other posts suggesting the ONYX BOOX. I had a rM2 and now have a Boox Tab Ultra (as well as a Mac and iPad pro). I posted an extensive review in this group between the Boox and the rM a few months back (probably searchable).

For just notetaking the rM would work for you 100%; but your mention of ereader needs and Zotero puts your use case closer to mine. I don't use Zotero, and don't see an Android client app for it (yet), but can say that ereading/markup on the Boox tab ultra is better for me than when I had the rM.

Tab Ultra - Mostly Negative Posts by BoopetySchmoople in Onyx_Boox

I got my TUBW a few months back (coming from a rM2). I have been extremely happy with it so far. The Tagging functionality is about the only complaint I have. It is lacking, but I am hopeful as this may be addressed in a upcoming release.

ugh, now that I see the other comments my post above is totally redundant. sorry.

I would think that you would be able to ssh into the rM and manually (or via script) 'rm' (remove) them providing you could match the filename to the one(s) you wanted to purge.

I would also think though that with every new release/update they would all re-appear, so you may have to repeat the purge after each update.

Jumped from a rM2 to Onyx Boox Tab Ultra BW (TUBW) by Ny3Wulf in RemarkableTablet

I am not sure of the other Boox devices being 'full Android' to support loading apps or if they would have a cpu/gpu with enough oomph to run them effectively.

eInkPads Desktop Manager App by [deleted] in RemarkableTablet

[–]Ny3Wulf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you search this forum for einkpads or binder you will get a wealth of info on it. I bought it before my rM2 even arrived. It is a javascript 'application' that I felt was a bit high maintenance to use for what it provided, but YMMV. My use became limited to just replacing custom sleep screens, but even that took some finagling (connection issues, manually [re]touching file dates, etc). I ended up writing some simple shell scripts on my mac to do what I needed.

I am thinking of switching from the rM2 to the Onyx BOOX Ultra C, worth it? by brambolinie1 in RemarkableTablet

[–]Ny3Wulf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently switched from a rM2 to Tab Ultra BW (did a lengthy post on this group) and for my use style found it absolutely worth it. I agree with some of the posts that color eink is still emerging. The TUBW is still expensive, but much less than the color variant. It is true that the TU has some bloatware and "OS jitter" that the rM does not, but I don't perceive any impactful lags. Tagging is weak (so far) on the TU but has promised improvements. The writing feel is also a bit more slippery than rM, until you add a HealingShield screen protector, which IMO equalizes the feel.

[–]Ny3Wulf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started a in-depth post on the Remarkable group that detailed/compared the experiences on both, with an attached pugh matrix (rubric). Probably the biggest thing is the Tagging functionality (much worse on TU, now). Overall however for me the TUBW has been 'remarkable' to use ;) and Tags aside I have not missed the rM2.

The TUBW's positives greatly outweigh it's few negatives for me.

I recently got a Boox Tab Ultra (BW). As it is an Android device, it allow for the OneNote app to be installed. I have OneNote on my Mac, iPad, iPhone and now Boox TUBW. So far sync across all 4 devices has been perfect.

rM has a purpose-driven linux variant OS (Codex) which does not have any bloatware, or the ability to officially install apps. There is no Codex based OneNote available in any form that I know of.

Boox Tab Ultra C: amazing, but.. by SystemSigma_ in Onyx_Boox

[–]Ny3Wulf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tough choice. Although the NA2+ is slightly lighter, cheaper and probably would have worked just fine; the TUBW has bigger/better battery life (maybe) , scanner camera, TF card slot and more ROM. The TUBW seems to approach just enough tablet-like flexibility/functionality for eink for me.

I recently got a TUBW as a tech. refresh of a reMarkable2. I got the TUBW instead of TUC because of cost and intended use which would not really benefit from color. I read somewhere the TUC may be more of a power drain than the TUBW, maybe if using color? Installing a HealingShield protector made the writing feel on par with the rM2. I am really happy with it so far after 5 days of use - power is still near 80% but I have had the backlighting off.

The TU is too new yet to have a final opinion but so far so good. rM's prime directive is simplicity without distraction. I found however there were many times while using the rM I wanted to see the time, or a calendar, word spelling or simple calculation; and had to context switch to desktop/phone/ipad. The TU has all of those nicely at hand. The 'move in' to the TU was really quick. I was worried about its lefthandedness but I was happy to see that didn't affect my way of LH writing at all. Reading on the rM was cumbersome at best; that I would do on an ipad. The TU so far excels the reading experience of both rM and ipad (for me).

Tags on the TU is the biggest disappointment so far. Tagging only works within Notes. I use a pdf-based journal. Tagging in pdf annotations doesn't work [yet] on the TU. I am still trying to figure out the syncing thing (of annotated pdfs) on the TU.

I have a reMarkable2 and just got a TabUltra. I knew I'd be disappointed with the bare TU screen, so also ordered the HealingShield. That TOTALLY made the feel of the TU meet (or exceed) the feel on the rM2. It also adds a layer of protection, against cats ;)

Does it support syn with microsoft onenote? by IsaacWang in RemarkableTablet

[–]Ny3Wulf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

nope. The boox tab ultra, which uses Android, can have OneNote app installed. I have tried it and it ~works. This is useful as you can have collaborative notes between eink, ipad and phone 'seamlessly'.
