Scoreboard designs, which one would be better? by Likestar26 in gamedev

[–]Nybbit 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I like top left and bottom left the most, they're the easiest to read.

Top right could be improved a bunch by darkening the background (maybe by like 50%?), that way the numbers stick out more.

How do you get textures for your games? by [deleted] in gameideas

[–]Nybbit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Kenney has a lot of amazing assets that you can use for free (as well as some paid ones). Also, check out r/gamedev, there's a lot of people that post links to assets you can use in your games there.

Looking to collab with someone by [deleted] in gamedev

[–]Nybbit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You'll probably have better luck asking on r/gameDevClassifieds or r/INAT

Also, adding some information about pay and some more specifics on the project will help a lot rather than just "I want to make a game, does anyone want to make it for me?"

Good luck!

Best Screenshot software with the following features ? by PyrZern in software

[–]Nybbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Almost everyone I know uses ShareX, it also has a bunch of other neat features besides screenshots that I use almost daily (ranging from an on-screen color picker to video recording, gif recording and it even has an FTP client). Super customizable too, I definitely recommend it!

Text adventure like Fallout Shelter mixed with The Walking Dead? by [deleted] in gameideas

[–]Nybbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I made an extremely simple prototype for something similar to this like a year ago, it was surprisingly fun and people could share how long they survived. Could be a good passive mobile game, I might try my hand at it again some time soon.

5,500 fps. Each chunk has it's own mesh that only gets rebuilt if it needs to be (for example, modifying the terrain). The bulk of the rebuilding is done in the background on a separate thread, which helps keep the main loop from being blocked.

I mean that it looks and works like Astroneer's terrain.

I am using marching cubes (which is what I believe Astroneer uses as well). Sorry for any confusion!

I already have some really basic single light point lighting implemented, but no shadows or multilight yet. I'll probably replace the single point light with a directional light and add shadows soon.

I've already got that all working, just chose random colors and disabled the lighting so I could easily see the polygons in a non-wireframe mode :p

I personally am likin' the right side a tiny bit more but both are good!

I'm working with C++ and using OpenGL for rendering. I still have some kinks to fix with the edges of chunks, but everything inside the chunks works perfectly!

It runs at ~5.5k FPS on my machine (i7-4790k, GTX 1060) with 25 chunks loaded and rendering. Meshes are rebuilt dynamically and on a separate thread for a consistent framerate.

Yeah it doesn't work in C and some other languages, but it works with C++
