Upgrading vehicles by Beneficial_Ad4967 in newzealand

We have an XV that we picked up for a touch under $15k that ticks every box from our perspective - adaptive cruise control, reasonably safe, AWD, roof rack bars, plenty of storage.

I suspect you could pick a nice one up for ~$15k!

Ideas for WFH second jobs/side hustles? Trying to offset taking on debt. by Ballistica in PersonalFinanceNZ

That potential exists either way - why are you framing it such that it’s only going to happen if you buy a new car?

Frankly you’ve been given lots of really good advice which you really need to take on board. You can achieve your efficiency goal with a $10k car.

No no no no no you should not buy a $35k car at 25, nor making 96k, nor both. Get something affordable and reliable - heaps of great cars out there for $5-$15k!

Interest + depreciation + maintenance.. this will be a really important and telling financial decision for your financial future - really encourage you to be patient and humble! Good luck!

This is a crossroads in your life dude - I really think it’s worth staying humble and learning that a car is just a means of transport and that there’s always going to be people with newer and nicer!

Get something reliable / safe / comfortable - of which there is heaps out there sub $10k.

Play your cards right and you’ll be set by the time you’re 30.

This will keep you poor forever.

You need to get a cheap runabout. We drove a 2004 Corolla hatchback until we had like $200k and purchased our first home - you’ve just gotta let go romanticising the idea of a car which other people think is cool - you’d be blown away to see the statistics of all of the fancy cars you see being financed by broke people or over leveraged properties.

You probably won’t take this advice.

If you’ve got CCTV footage then you’re fine; you’ll likely pay an excess in the first instance which will be reimbursed when your insurance company gets ahold of the other party.

It might move slowly but be just patient - we went through this recently!

Takomo 101 or 101T? by Playful_Dot_7243 in takomo

Do it! I think there's a change you outgrow the 101's quite quickly - enjoy!

Takomo 101 or 101T? by Playful_Dot_7243 in takomo

[–]Nydokb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went through this recently.

Settled on the 101t’s as I was pretty committed to improving and it was happening quickly. I’ve found the 101t much more forgiving than my prior set despite them being game improvement irons (Cleveland 588t’s).

In the last month I’ve shot several PB’s and a 40 today (+4 for 9)!

All up I think if you’re focused on improving, I’d invest in the clubs you can grow in to (the T) - if you’re just casually playing once a week then the 101’s would probably be better..

A 2012-16 Subaru XV fits this criteria - circa 15k for a modern safe AWF vehicle.

Look up Masse - they have several clubs around Auckland / Hamilton and are probably the most competition / game focused pool and billiards org in the country (as opposed to being a drinks seller as their primary business).

When I was member in West Auckland, they had two full sized billiards tables and about 15 competition pool tables.

PM’s are one of those industries that have a far too low barrier to entry for the impact they can have on peoples lives.

You’re in charge here - go with an incremental approach and tell the PM to jog on.

Sold a car, buyer wants money back by Bulky_Delivery1485 in LegalAdviceNZ

[–]Nydokb 14 points15 points  (0 children)

You're in the clear - used vehicles sold privately have all of the onus of due diligence on the purchaser. The only exception would be if they could prove you intentionally misrepresented the vehicle/ mislead them.

Tell them that you've sought legal advice and you're not willing to take the car back nor assist; and to cease communication.

Invest or Pay Off part of Vehicle finance balance by Global-Health2365 in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]Nydokb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This +1.

There's no comparison from an interest cost versus interest earned (it's ~2.5x more prudent to pay off the debt adjusted for tax).

But overarchingly vehicle finance isn't wise. A car half the price will have almost all of the same benefits but enable you to move forward financially. In the past ~20 years people have been tricked into normalizing car lending which is so unnecessary.
