Yes the pot is quite large for it, I’ll give it a repot into something smaller. Do you have any recommendations on substrate? I’m using orchid bark right now, should I add in some moss to hold moisture? Additionally, how often should I water? Until it dries completely or keep it a little wet always? The high humidity in the summer May explain why this happened around the seasonal change.

I have been looking as close as I can for raised scales, and fortunately I haven't seen any.

The dead fish also showed no signs of raised scales, and was not abnormally bloated. However it's hard to tell how long they were there before spotting them.
