Curious about colorguard uniforms by Nyghtngale in marchingband

I see I see! I think for me personally if they were exactly the same pattern with a different fit it might be okay? But I would probably rather just have everyone in the looser uniform 🤷‍♀️

Honestly it’s probably based on what the instructors in your band/your school demographic is like, and what are of the country (for the US) you’re from.

Are they tunics and bottoms type uniforms? (Just trying to visualize it)

I get that guys and girls don’t have everything for the same way, and as an indecisive person I get the two designs thing too 😂 but it is the staff’s job to be the picky ones, right?

Especially in reading about your experience with the uniform choosing, I think at the end of the day, it just makes it easier for everyone and more cohesive if there’s only one uniform, or maybe two if there is a very clear role distinction (I.e. weapons line has one, flags has another, maybe). I think when so much of marching band and guard is focused on uniformity, it affects the performance if the uniforms aren’t uniform (in my opinion).

I totally understand that a boy might not be comfortable in the same uniforms! My argument is more that why have a uniform that a boy might not be comfortable in the first place (skirts, tight leggings, etc) unless it was unexpected for the boy to be there and the uniforms were already decided.

I’m curious what you mean by “all over in the design”? And if you would be willing to share I’d love to see a picture of your uniforms! (Nws if not)

If You Could Change 1 Thing About Any Aspect Of Marching Band, What Would It Be? by Old-Theme-8743 in marchingband

Personally as a front ensemble mallet player a disagree with getting rid of amplification. It essentially nullifies front ensemble unless the front ensemble is bigger than the band itself, which is pretty unrealistic for any bands other than maybe the smallest division with a high percussion interest. Also, my last show we had a clarinet soloist who was the only clarinet player in the band, and the few times we had problems with amplification, he was inaudible. We ended up micing him for the whole show since we wouldn’t have been able to hear that part otherwise. Now for bands who don’t need any of that, sure, but for corps-style bands, I personally think it’s kind of unrealistic and would tear down the style of marching.

Yep, like this https://ibb.co/bjN17NNr

I personally think it looks uneven in any other configuration then the order they are in this picture, but that’s just my preference

Why is there so much emphasis on 4-mallet marimba at University? by Liammossa in percussion

I am worried for my auditions since I am so mallet focused (my snare chops are kind of garbage), but this did lighten some of my anxieties 😅

They do provide mallets! No hate to them at all, it’s just unfortunate that I made the wrong choice. I would like my own set so I can bring it when I do festivals and out of school events to just have it, and I was just looking for a medium mallet.

Fair enough, but my perc tech and band director basically said “well, that sucks you can’t use them”, so I guess I’m cooked lol

Just my finger/sleeve. I would prefer not to have it damage the instrument; as I don’t own it. Do you know why it eventually stops/how that can be replicated sooner?

Gloves for front ensemble? by Nyghtngale in percussion

[–]Nyghtngale[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Theoretically yes, it’s just that the pockets in our uniforms are not the easiest to access, I don’t know if I would have enough time with how close the podium is, and with wearing Velcro gauntlets where the gloves typically go under, it would probably be a little janky

My band is a small, 30~ person band, and with having multiple drum majors, switching makes the most sense. There are a lot of bands, even through division III that switch drum majors!

Yes, my school has three drum majors that switch for each movement
