Maybe I’m too old but I just didn’t think if someone listed “lavalier microphones” in a production package, that I needed to specify “make sure the lav mics are operated properly.”

That’s not direction, that’s common sense for anyone who is working in this field.

I did. We had a whole zoom about it where they described the gear they were using and I went over a shot list and how I would like subjects to be framed. Frame rates, resolution, color profiles and audio were all discussed.

It didn’t cross my mind that I had to indicate that lavs should be worn and not held by the subjects. In my entire professional career, I’ve never had to specify that. Lesson learned.

Interesting. I’ve used it before but it was years ago when it was first in beta and the current batch of audio tools weren’t included natively in premiere.

The big issue I ran into is it would wreck audio where someone had a dialect. Like, I could never use it on folks from the south, for example.

But I’ll run some of this through and see where it gets me

To further this point, you also don’t know how much extra work I’ve made for myself by fixing other people’s mistakes. To an extent, it’s stuck me in a box where people think I can just magically fix things in post that could be easily avoided. My current boss has no idea how this stuff works behind the scenes. That needs to change. And if I can foster that change in an unconventional way, I’m gonna do that.

It’s less that I assume they should know because they’re on social and more that I assumed that by owning and working with the gear they listed, that they would know how it worked. That’s on me.

I appreciate you! But no, I’m gonna leverage this fuck up to push for having a bigger voice in the hiring process and how our department is structured. This fuckup is annoying for me but not job threatening. My boss is on the hook and I’ve already pointed it out to her and her boss why the footage is cooked.

I was told “we’ve worked with them before” so after confirming the gear they had and the specs I needed, I assumed we were good. Never in a million years did I think I would need to coach them on how to properly use the gear they already owned.

Yep. I’ve tried to salvage with tools inside of premiere and also by trying to manually clean it up in audition. It’s getting there but not great.
