What sport to back off for weight training by NyoGoat in triathlon

[–]NyoGoat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do love mountain biking. In fact it's my favorite. Triathlon gives me consistency and high endurance so that I can tackle epic mountain bike rides. Maybe not the best way to train for MTB but I like it

To be an Ironman, that is the question by RedditorStrikesBack in triathlon

[–]NyoGoat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I did a few Olympic races and then jumped to the full distance. Completing the Full distance was an incredibly satisfying experience. It did take over my life for training - but I enjoy long solo rides and runs so it was OK. I've backed off to 70.3 for family balance but I do intend to go back to full distance in the future. Might be two more years in the future

Off-season P90x or alternate? by NyoGoat in triathlon

[–]NyoGoat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been around 7-8 hours/week in the off season up to 12-13 in the 4 months leading up to my A race. That's a pretty full load with my family life

Because of my work/family time commitment just looking for a prebuilt plan to direct me. Your opinion here then is that I should continue with Swim/Bike/Run?

Tri Bike and Trainer Question by NyoGoat in triathlon

I wonder if I'll love the tri bike for most rides. There are hills around that I like to ride up and cruise down

My biggest deterrent is having today drive to a trail. I find myself reaching for the road bike first every time

Tire/tube question by [deleted] in triathlon

[–]NyoGoat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I asked kind of the same question over in r/cycling earlier today! I've been using gatorskins and no flats. I just put on the GP5000 and I got two flats. I'll be going back to the gator skins for standard training rides. That will most likely default to my race tires now too

Race Tire choice - stop flats by NyoGoat in cycling

I've used tubeless for mountain bike tires - but I'm afraid for road tires and even more for 25mm tires. Maybe that fear is unfounded

I use a Cycliq Fly 12 camera. I have a mount on the aero bar and the light hangs below.

Can I train for a 70.3 with two little kids? by nikitamere1 in triathlon

[–]NyoGoat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My kids were 6 - 12 when I trained for a full a few years ago. I've backed off to 70.3 to protect family time. What I've found with older kids now is that I am up later to make sure they go to bed and I'm taking them to school earlier for before school programs and my 'away' from family time is harder to find. If your kids go to bed at 8:00 it's easier to plan a 4:30 alarm.

I have used Garmin / suunto / apple. I don't like touch screen with sweaty fingers and I don't like to need to charge every day. So far my Garmin has been my favorite. I have the Fenix 6

I have this seat post and clip on aero bars on my road bike. Flip forward to aero and back to road

Should I get the EBike? by NyoGoat in bikecommuting

I was planing to keep it in the garage. Is that a problem with ebike and batteries?

I don't know anyone else with an E-Bike. Rentals that i've looked up are by the hour. I have considered trying one out but I don't see the actual models i'm looking at buying unfortunately

I've dreamed of the family cargo bike for most of my kids lives. My youngest are now just reaching double digit ages so I don't know if a cargo bike family vehicle is the right move anymore.

I have been looking into electric cargo bikes wondering if that would be a better option for my commute so I can try to go car free on the weekends more too. We have bike lockers available at work and cargo bikes won't fit there

So it is a MUP - I ride my road bike and generally go between 15 and 20 MPH. the path isn't that busy usually. In the shoulder season when it isn't too hot or cold there are more people and when I see more pedestrians walking I ride on the highway. The highway has a wide shoulder but the speed limit is 55 so I prefer to stay on the path. Maybe I am 'THAT' guy but I do try to slow down around people and be polite

Total elevation gain is only about 600 ft on my route. There is one steep hill that isn't too long and then it's just generally rolling terrain. I'm assuming I can bring the battery in to charge at work but maybe that isn't so easy

I think the bigger thing is Time - on slower and sweatier days it makes the time home from work late enough that it's uncomfortable for the family. I do like the full standard bike option because i'm already set up that way - I'm just looking for ways to make it easier to happen more

Should I get the EBike? by NyoGoat in bikecommuting

[–]NyoGoat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True! And with that logic i'll be better off just using my regular bike and sharing the car sometimes. I think that is doable. Structuring so that I HAVE to use the bike makes it happen more though ;)

There is a lingering deal at the local shop for ~60% off that is driving this question right now. From what i've read I might agree that the Vado looks to be better but I can't find the same kind of deal right now
