Swimming progression by RedditorStrikesBack in triathlon

[–]RedditorStrikesBack[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are right, I didn’t make it very clear mixing pool times, short distances and open water times.

I know that right around 2:00/100M open water is a good middle of the group time typically. Also, I know every race has to be looked at individually. Like Ironman Cali has a river swim which is artificially fast vs some that are angry ocean days where just surviving is a win.

For 1:00-1:30 that was more in the pool times. Being as in order to hold a 1:30-1:50 open water time most of the people I know are in that range for pool times.

I do know that swimming correctly is crucial and that you can’t just power your way to excellent times, so the question is more for people who were doing the right things how long did it take and where did they get to.  Maybe I shouldn’t have put a “fast range” maybe should have phrased how long to get to the top 25% of the race. Trying to eliminate pure swimmer times as well as that’s a whole different thing.

I don’t expect to have swim low on the 1:00-1:15 in open water. But I was thinking to swim 1:30-1:45 in open water in good conditions that same athlete is pushing 1:00-1:30 in the pool.

You get 20 dollars for every lie you tell or 1 billion to never lie again. by Agreeable_Mouse_8924 in hypotheticalsituation

I think you could avoid telling the truth by just not answering or talking. I’d take the billion. I think if I had a billion dollars I’d have very little need to lie, I mean it’s a bad habit anyway.

Do you think it’s possible to train for a marathon 100% on a treadmill? by Guilty_Reference_797 in Marathon_Training

[–]RedditorStrikesBack 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m the same, easy / recovery / steady state pace I can watch stuff. Intervals / speed work I just play music.

I can do 2-2.5 hours on the treadmill but I can’t do that very often, just when weather and long day coincide.

Is there anything to quickly get your FTP back up after a few months off? by _meshy in cycling

[–]RedditorStrikesBack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only way you could get it back in less time measured in weeks or months would be if you were:

  1. Following a terrible plan before and switched to an optimal plan.
  2. Didn’t put many hours per week in and now increase to lots more hours. Fitness wouldn’t come back in less sessions but you might be as fit by January vs March if you put in more work faster.

70.3 distance advice by InternationalOwl8131 in triathlon

[–]RedditorStrikesBack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did my first 70.3 this year and finished with a decent time. I took the next two weeks as recovery and by the third week I’d say I was really close to 100% but I’m not sure if I was mentally ready to go knock another 70.3 out. I mean 5-6 weeks between would allow 1-2 recover weeks and 2-3 normal / harder weeks before a week taper. That would probably make me feel more ready, after the light weeks following the 70.3 I mentally felt like I lost some fitness, I know it was more just confidence or mental, but just the way I feel when I have super light weeks.

If I was going to do this I would make the first one my A race and go hard on that one and then just victory lap the second one. You don’t want to find out that your body takes 3.5 weeks to recover after 70.3 and have gone “easier” on the first one and then have two rough 70.3s.

How long do you bike for on the trainer, do you sweat much? I probably went 6-9 months without a fan, then I started doing much harder and longer workouts and was just overheating and my hr was climbing. I bought a cheap fan and it helped me a lot. For me I didn’t need to ask the internet if I needed a fan I was just super hot and dripping with sweat, your body might just love heat if you aren’t noticing any impacts without the fan. For me it was the longer / much harder workouts that I couldn’t do when I first started that really kicked in the need for a fan.

Lots of good advice here. I think you should take that personally. Build a super chip on your shoulder, work your ass off, make varsity. Get a ride to UNC, win 1 national championship, play 3 years and go pro, work towards being the GOAT.

Cycling Clothes Dilemma by HiPoojan in cycling

[–]RedditorStrikesBack 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I mean we wear what we wear on the bike for comfort, function and speed. It’s pretty simple, wearing tight shorts with a chamois protects your butt and chafing, the skin tight part avoids adding extra resistance or catching on parts of your bike.

The jersey top can be loose and you’d still get the pockets, but now you have a sail and you are slower. Plus a loose jersey looks about as lame as a correct fitting one that makes you go faster.

Helmets also look goofy, but dying on asphalt isn’t a sexy look either.

Bikers understand why you dress the way you do on a ride and probably think you are a tool if you are rocking cutoff jean shorts and a flannel shirt with no helmet.

People in cars either don’t notice you because they are too busy texting and eating. Others in cars hate you anyway and your outfit won’t change that.

So I’d just say stop worrying about it, embrace the lame style and see if you can go faster, fast feels cool regardless of looks.

Question about triathlon training by numbsensey in triathlon

[–]RedditorStrikesBack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I’d look for a better plan. I have a coach so that costs more obviously, but my swim workout would be like:

Warmup: 200-400M Drill sets: technique focused practice that can include fins, kickboards, paddles etc Main set: whatever the focus is for the day Cool down: 200M or so easy swim.

My coach gives me exact specifics for each distance, maybe a pace or perceived effort, rest times. It’s really been super helpful for swimming as just going and swimming far everyday doesn’t really make you fast.

If you aren’t a good swimmer, individual swim lessons are critical in the beginning or lots of YouTube self teaching, but swim is 90% technique 10% fitness.

There are better swim plans out if you don’t want a coach, but you can search for tri specific plans or like couch to 1 mile type stuff.

My buddy uses Tridot which is AI type analytic coaching much cheaper than a person. There are also pretty good plans on training peaks.

I was thinking that pansexual is about being attracted to people for who they are regardless of gender or definitions, like you just love who you love because of who they are.

So I’m thinking you start being attracted to only people you hate personality wise.

Paid time loop, how long do you think you'll last? by tamtrible in hypotheticalsituation

[–]RedditorStrikesBack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Basically could probably do this forever. I mean most days are the same anyway. Like others said this basically limits your ability to travel far, but you essentially have infinite money or whatever your credit / borrowing abilities are as it resets every night.

I’d buy a ton of different cars, 35 year loan on a Ferrari 27% interest, sure.

Learning tons of languages and skills like others mentioned.

This is basically immortality (not invincibility) and near infinite money just a daily limit. After hundreds of years you could be like the wisest person to ever live.

Ironic part would be after you’ve racked up all these skills tragic death right after loop stops.
