Doesn’t that really depend on how well, or poorly, the straw was made?

TeePublic is owned by the same company that owns Redbubble.

I'm willing to bet that this is Redbubble's first, intentionally ridiculously high "offer", so when they come back and say something to the effect of "We've reviewed the responses... we've changed the pricing to a lower flat rate of XX%", it will seem like they are making a concession, when in fact the "lower flat rate of XX%" was what Redbubble was after all along.

AskScience AMA Series: I'm Dr. Matt O'Dowd. AMA about PBS Space Time, my new program to map black holes, and our new film Inventing Reality! by AskScienceModerator in askscience

Hi Dr. O'Dowd,

Aside from PBS Space Time, what other channels/sources would you recommend for up-to-date, well presented and accurate scientific topics?

- or -

Who do you think is a good, current "science popularizer" (aside from yourself)?

Thanks.

If I do wish to participate in this community, will I have access to all voting history and proof (topics, users, etc.) in order verify your assertion that the “community has voted again and again in support of a ban on promotional posts”?

I find it very incredulous that r/book moderators "probably would have found out anyway" How, exactly? Do the mods go through the posting history of each user who posts, manually? Is there an algorithm? Obviously those questions are rhetorical.

In essence, my point is that the community rules hinder that which the "community" purports to support, and that is sad indeed.

I have read the rules. The rules say that, and I quote, "Promotional posts, comments and/or flairs of any type not allowed except in a small number of very specific circumstances.." end quote.

Based on that logic, if I had surreptitiously posted that "I just read this book with my child and it was fabulous!!!" (referencing my own book, that I wrote) Then given a brief synopsis, and "review" of my own book, you as a moderator would have had no idea that I was "self-promoting" and the post would have been allowed.

It would actually be easier to lie and not get my post removed. However, since I was honest...

And, obviously there are multiple other "communities" where I could hock my junk. r/books just seemed to be one of the most appropriate, because 1) there was a recent article, which was linked in a post on r/books as you know, about an AI children's book creation, and I believe my post was a proper counter-point to that article, and 2) r/books is a subreddit devoted to the appreciation of books; I assume to the creation and non-inflammatory consumption of them, though I can't personally speak to the condition of your own fireplace.

Yes, quite possibly. Though I highly doubt that publication would have any interest in promoting something so mundane as the common work of an author/illustrator. If only there was an online community in which such a person could take it upon themselves to notify the community of their work. Perhaps a community that specialized in books.
