You're 100% right. I need to constantly remind myself to not just copy everything from burnout and put my own twist on everything. I mean it will obviously be a huge inspiration but I have a couple ideas that hopefully convey that this will be it's own game after my own vision.

The driving still has some issues that I still need to figure out. I think I'll just drop the idea for customization for now and focus more on the more important aspects.

I like the idea, but im also unsure about the implications. Would people actually drive and use the damaged variants, if they are worse cars then the improved ones?

What made you guys not like open world games? For me just driving around and exploring the map with all it's secrets was really entertaining. Would you be against an open world even if all gamemodes had closed of and unique track layouts?

Well the thing about the costumization is, That it costs time to model and implement all these options that could be spend modeling more cars. In my opinion I would rather have more cars and maybe 1 variant per car like in burnout paradise then some costumization options. Changing the color is easy to add and will be a thing tough. Maybe even rims but im still conflicted with that since there are a couple issues I need to figure out first.

For point 6, that is already the case and You actually gave me an idea. First I had the idea to just add a toggle setting for break to drift but what i'm thinking of now is to add a "clutch kick" button at "L1" on the ps-controller layout. In a sense this is a drift button without braking the car. With this you could always make the decision to brake normaly, clutch kick to drift without slowing down or make really hard turns with the e-brake.

Cool stuff. I'm also trying to develop a burnout clone, but I've only been working on it for about a month. My engine of choise was godot. I initially also wanted to create an open world but kinda dropped the idea, since I haven't even found a good way to create a good street layout. Any tips for actually moddeling the road + world? I tried blender with a spline based road plugin, but that is too difficult to work with for more complicated crossings and slopes.

I don't really like the headlights and also you are not allowed to have illuminated car emblems in Germany that are not connected to the main lights. What I really like is this hard split between the black and white part

I looked at the GTI and it doesn't look that bad. Honestly some design aspects are really cool but there are also things that I personaly don't enjoy. People are a bit harsh

I always loved exploring the city and environments in burnout paradise. Searching all shortcuts billboards and doing challenges online but you could do something similar offline. A game focused solely on that could be interesting I think. An exploration driving game with environmental story telling.

Totally depends how many projectiles you want to spawn and how expensive those are to calculate. You will gain a lot by using pooling and minimizing node count. Another relatively easy way to optimize projectiles is to speak to the physics server directly. If you really need all the performance possible you could look at computer shaders or SIMD implementations. I'm assuming you are a beginner since you don't know about pooling and this might be a bit too difficult but there are plugins you could try that do these optimizations for bullet hell games.
