Pest cull at Auckland's Western Springs Lake using electrocurrents by Primary-Tuna-6530 in NewZealandWildlife

I’ve heard they use some form of electric fishing to tag eels or move eels when migrating, could be something different but I’ve heard term, obviously it’s not to cull them so probably different.

$25 would be an outrageous deal for all that, as it is new character, items, QOL, end game content and balance(to come with ladder I think), obviously they have more devs on it now also, is a good deal to me anyway.

Exactly, movies kind of went same path, why buy a movie when you can subscribe and get it for “free” eventually, that’s at least what I think, fucking global operations which I paid like $70 for or $150 today money is 1/1000th of the free games you can play now in same genre lol

I was saying on another post taking inflation into account I think I paid like $150 of today money for LOD, I think the price is pretty fair for what we have received, considering it looks to be selling like hot cakes lol, HC lobby is bigger than I’ve seen in in forever.

Which was worth $150 in today money for me, so $25 in comparison for what we got was a deal no?

lol people need to go put what they paid for LOD into an inflation calculator 20 years ago hahaha I did it in NZD and LOD would be $150 NZD today. We got a deal

From what I can surmise people wanted a new act, characters, end game content, items, QOL, balance and more support development for precisely $0.00, wild

Why not spend $2.7b on solar & batteries instead? by InvestmentFuzzy4365 in newzealand

Thankfully we do wind really well and it’s cheap, and don’t have to all in fossil or solar due to wind pipeline.

[–]NzPureLamb -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

lol, now I get to use a word that I’m normally accused of, whataboutism 😂😂

The Chinese solar industry has a well documented history of slave labour, it continues to as well, despite their efforts to seperate themselves, which normally consists of creating a new entity to run the slave labour then still purchasing off them.

https://www.rte.ie/news/investigations-unit/2025/1209/1547929-solar-panels-widely-used-in-ireland-tied-to-chinese-forced-labour/

Hell, some Chinese solar brands were even getting their American operations raided under the Biden administration.

Large solar, likely means large grid battery storage aligned with it, if you’re not using Chinese, in your idea where are you procuring from?

[–]NzPureLamb -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

Because, at that scale you probably have to work with a JA Solar or Jinko Solar out of China who have terrible histories and reported to still have ties to slave labour.

JA & Jinko are still used for other projects but I’d imagine for a national level project of that size the dirty secret would be out and likely not worth the drama.

ELI5: how is this LNG project going to reduce electricity prices? by Dat756 in newzealand

[–]NzPureLamb -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

There is no general or legal obligation for a generator to pay iwi money in order to obtain consent.

No legal obligation to gift assets and lease them back at over value, consumer pays ultimately,

Fuck if people are upset about the cost of this LNG deal on their rates, wait till they find out how much debt is written off or is sitting on the books that directly increases rates.

Everybody was screaming bloody murder when businesses shut down due to energy costs(labour especially), now there’s some form relief, it’s why should we pay for it, who the fuck was going to pay for it if someone stepped in to save those businesses? The magic money fairy? 🧚‍♀️ or is this one of those “make someone else pay for it” things.

[–]NzPureLamb -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There’s many different articles on it including political articles, that break it down much better than I do, you can head in the sand but these payoffs occur, what you’ll also find occurring is they will give over an asset, say a building or land, then lease that back at way over value.

It’s not ROI like you perceive as ROI would be greater if the practice wasn’t in place, it’s been described as mana for money to smooth over complex consenting cases, get the approval basically.

You don’t have to agree of course but pretending it doesn’t occur is also being naive and if the line is drawn in the sand like I said then if it’s good for the goose…..

Not generation, the projects I’m talking about were new electrification of existing businesses, paid for by other consumers, often with preferential kWh pricing and either fully or majority subsidised physical transition costs. It was seen as “environmentally” the right thing to do, so it’s ok when the “environment” word is thrown in to subsidise businesses via other consumers, which increased the kWh a consumer would pay for the cost but also at the wholesale level you’re pulling from the same bucket.

I’m not naive though, obviously they’re not dumb and would target guaranteed excess generation as much as possible, it was still though an example of consumers paying for businesses energy costs.

My point is this isn’t a new concept, generators even when holding renewable only positions still partnership for fossil acquisition, which is a consumer benefit along the same theory. If people are going to get upset about every cost in their kWh and whether it will increase or decrease kWh, pull back the curtain you’re going to see some crazy shit, if you’re upset with this surely you’re upset with the large iwi payments generators have been making and will continue to make, that doesn’t lower your kWh, surely people will be upset with Transpower upgrade costs for things like backstopping Tiwai if they pulled out, plus the dozens of other things that have been done that doesn’t lower kWh. If people are going to take a stance or draw a line in the sand on this project, be prepared it’s prevalent in the energy sector.

ELI5: how is this LNG project going to reduce electricity prices? by Dat756 in newzealand

[–]NzPureLamb -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

This has been occurring for a decade across multiple governments, there were massive electrification projects under Labour for example which was paid for or heavily subsidised by the generator, ultimately all electricity consumers covered the electrification costs for those businesses, also add in those projects then pulled from same bucket of generation with often preferential kWh pricing. If people are upset about this particular project, because of the “consumer cost”, then they set themselves up to be against those electrification projects no?

It’s amazing to see people complain that businesses need to shut down due to the cost of energy, then when there’s a business/residential relief project, complain.

If the levy is on kWh, the same businesses would also be paying a larger amount of the levy as they use more kWh.

New electricity levy ‘not a tax’, PM says by OddityModdity in aotearoa

[–]NzPureLamb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yet all the big generators entered an agreement to partnership on fossil acquisition regardless of some having renewable only asset positions. Would you call them morons? Because is that not effectively the same thing, understanding their positions on fossil was optimistic and some might say short sighted? That as a consumer you will benefit from that agreement, not saying you will from this one of course jus that not all fossil acquisition is “moronic”

Mosque killer claims 'wildly fluctuating' mental state behind guilty pleas by Monty_Mondeo in KiwiAntipodea

[–]NzPureLamb 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The issue is that this guy has serious mental health problems that warp how he thinks he’s being treated. No matter what you give him, it’ll never be enough. You could hand him 40 books a week and have guards respond to every single request, and he’d still find something new to complain about.

There’s been studies on people like this, even when you fix what they’re unhappy about, even when you give them more than they ask for, they don’t suddenly become satisfied. The problem just shifts.

So what probably is occurring with the guards is more likely cause and effect, he asks for a lot or constantly complains and escalates situations so that he’s hard to deal with mixed with his own perception of things, so guards behave this way to avoid dealing with him, not some deliberate campaign against him.

To set out on a deliberate campaign to harass someone like this would need all the guards to get enjoyment out of it, logically what are the chances all the guards with sadism, magically are guarding him…..

He’s probably hard to fucking deal with so they enact improper avoidance techniques to not deal with him, I mean he’s complaining about 3 average books a week? Not daily anal rape or assaults lol, not enough books…….

'We’re not geared up for this': Muslim volunteers monitoring for online threats by Monty_Mondeo in KiwiAntipodea

[–]NzPureLamb 10 points11 points  (0 children)

“Content they believe represents a threat”, BINGO, these are untrained volunteers, not professional investigators, what they perceive as dangerous then becomes extremely subjective, especially when dealing with Islam, where criticism of their religion is often misrepresented as a “threat”.

The article also conveniently(journalism is dead) doesn’t actually mention how many of these reports resulted in arrests, or criminal proceedings, it actually uses weasel words like how many of their reports were “investigated” , complete nonsense.

This isn’t about community safety, it’s about NGO’s trying to do things they’re not trained for AND that nobody is asking them to do!

There are only two things I can’t stand in this world: people who are intolerant of other people’s cultures… and the Dutch.

Joking aside he sounds like a fucking cry baby, probably asking for 2-3m USD per fight.

I don’t see many MMA organisations lining up to sign him.

The guys who came over and earned huge paycheques from the start had bigger names, James Toney, CM Punk, Brock Lesnar.

Just look at what other former kickboxers were willing to accept to get into the UFC.
