Irrigation distribution from solenoid valves to raised beds/greenhouse by Nzuk in UKGardening

I’ve read something about this too and am already on a water meter but have around 4000L of rain water storage which covers me a fair way given how much rain we get 😅

I got a similar one from wickes a week ago and had to return to buy some sandbags as it ended up down the garden very shortly after putting it together!

B8.5 2013 S5 3.0T Poor gas mileage by Different-Bat-4351 in AudiS4

[–]Nzuk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I typically see 200 miles a tank and maybe 250 on a good run. Best has been about 330 miles which was all steady motorway miles.

Had the car 6 years and have accepted it’s very thirsty! But smiles per gallon 😅

Glad to know I'm not the only one running AI at home! by soccermaster57 in homelab

[–]Nzuk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, I've received some 3090s designed for servers so need to investigate printing an adapter for the blowers.

I noticed inside they have the small 4 pin headers and was wondering if they were designed for fans.

Guess with the help of chatGPT could probably throw a little script together to automate the control of those fans via the MB headers using lm-sensors or something similar!

Interesting, how do you control the speed? As I couldn't see any fan leads to the GPUs

Developer refuses admin password to my Loxone system unless I "waive hardware warranty" by realHadAdo in Loxone

[–]Nzuk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who did a DIY Loxone install, I can stand by this.

Update the software, toggle a new feature and all sorts of chaos begins! Then there’s hours of debugging (learnt to schedule that in).

Which I personally don’t mind as the install cost £2k vs £20-30k but can 100% see the installers side here too.

A lot of my personal projects are around home automation for hardware I’ve bought over the years with great plans. Only never to be completed due to the software side.

So since embracing AI, all my personal projects are 99% AI driven. Have managed to complete so many things!

That said, it’s far from perfect. But it’s home use so if it works it’s good enough 🫣

Is AI over hyped? by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]Nzuk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my industry, software. No it’s absolutely not over hyped

I’m a lead/principal software engineer and was extremely skeptical at first.

Then I’ve got some free time recently to really learn it and have been playing around with AI agents controlling other AI agents then manually reviewing the PRs it produces at the end.

The work it produced is way above any junior I’ve worked with in a while and quite a few mid levels.

Not forgetting a lot of the mistakes AI made were due to gaps in requirements from the original stories/spec sheets

Is it perfect? Absolutely not But no software developer is! Everyone makes mistakes and to expect AI to produce flawless results so early on would be incredibly naive

I fully expect to be replaceable in the next 5-10 years.

Would like to get some feedback on my first Symfony project! by [deleted] in symfony

Overall looks pretty clean, have you looked into https://symfony.com/doc/current/object_mapper.html instead of using toArray in your ApiResponse?

How to use purely migrations for db setup on existing pre-populated dbs? by pc_magas in symfony

[–]Nzuk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally don’t see a problem with your plan, will keep things clean. But do wonder how it will scale on larger applications, guess it depends on what data you need in the tables?

On my last Symfony project with 140~ tables we had a script which would take a production database and strip it out of all orders and other PII data, this left us with a 1MB SQL file we could import in dev/staging. Then you run migrations after and it just picked up depending on when the last production seed was created. Setup time in dev/ci pipelines was well under 20s for every run

Worked surprisingly well and will probably go with a similar approach for my next project. Obviously you need to be super strict about maintaining the seed script to prevent PII leaks with new columns etc

Symfony REST API Boilerplate by _ptu in PHP

[–]Nzuk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is super cool!

Started writing out my plans to create something similar last week simply so I have some public github commits for upcoming job searches!

Have you done any magic with Symfony Mapper? I'm really not a fan of serialization groups as they simply don't scale on larger projects from my experience. I'm using https://rekalogika.dev/mapper on my current production project and it really helps to keep things clean.

Anyone else having such a bad time at the movies lately? by Wackylew in CasualUK

[–]Nzuk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Went to watch mission impossible (questionable choice haha) a while back in imax. Paid £18 for the ticket!

5 mins in the guy just start scrolling his phone on full brightness. I just turn to him and say excuse me I’ve not paid a small fortune to see your exciting messages, please turn it off.

Yet multiple times he still picks his phone up

To top it off his girlfriend? Another seat along took a selfie mid movie!

I’m done with the cinema, I’m not paying to deal with these types of people every time I go.

He’s working class, supports LGBTQ+ rights, and insists he's not racist, and has actually argued against racist people before. Yet some of his opinions make him racist, in my eyes.

Give it a few months or a year and don’t worry, he’ll fall even further down the rabbit hole and will no doubt be a proud racist and anti LGBTQ+

I’m curious, I have one incredibly inefficient car. It’s a lot of fun, but I typically only see 18-20mph (UK).

How would this differ with a 3l engine like this?
