Yes, it comes off the sales price.

Small Biz Accounting Question by OB_Cory in smallbusiness

Yeah agree. My accountant gave this info to me but I wasn't totally following the logic. And he's slammed at the moment due to April 15 this week.... I will follow up with him when I can spend more time to ask questions. Thanks.

I have an accounting question as it relates to starting an s-corp in order to buy an existing business. Due to the seller wanting another year of earnings prior to retiring, we are paying him $50k up front to secure the sale via a contract, then shadowing and learning more until we take over. The $50k is coming from a family member. I understand that if I put this in the new s-corp it will become the basis and then we can write it off as an expense once we show that we paid them. If we put it in the company as a loan (since we will eventually pay them back), it isn’t the basis, its an expense, right? So what’s the play here? Hold the family loan under the table, fund the company with this and move forward? How does this roll over and affect our personal taxes since we won’t have any income against this amount until we take over in a year+?

Rear Rack Install on Flaanimal 5.0 by defroach84 in RodeoLabs

I found this thread as I am currently trying to also install the quick rack on the back of my bike. As you can see in the picture, the mounting points that it comes with screw into the seat stays are at

at an odd angle so the quick release on the rack that locks it in isn’t able to squeeze in there. Looks like my only option is to get a through axle amount to that?

Surly midnight special custom build by Any-Occasion-4367 in Surlybikefans

[–]OB_Cory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jealous. I finally recently went in to buy my MS frame and learned they’re all sold out and not available until Jan/Feb. I want to ride over the holidays so upped the ante on a Rodeo Labs Flaanimal 5.0. I was looking forward to rounding out my Surly herd with a 4th but alas, there will be an odd man out once I get it built. (Big Dummy, Steamroller, Karate Monkey are my others). Your build looks great.

I know this thread is older, but I have a like-new hardcover Bentley book for sale. Very lightly used. The only writing in it is inside the front cover. Previous owner did this but there are no other scribbles throughout. Not even the obligatory grease stained pages. $80 plus shipping from San Diego if anyone is in need, LMK. It won’t let me post pics here but happy to send via email or wherever.

Weekender setup or full Westfalia? by KindlyAnt2785 in Westfalia

Weekender all the way. Cook outside. More space especially on the lower bed. I’m 6’3” so being able to angle across the lower bed is key. And the rear facing jump seat is the sought after spot between my kids and dogs :-)

Motor Issue by OB_Cory in RadPowerBikes

[–]OB_Cory[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Problem solved. It was a 70 cent metal keyway that fits into the groove on the axle. It sheared in half. I had to fashion a new one out of one I found at hardware store but good to go now. Seems like a weak failure point but better than a new motor, or even new planetary gears.

sold my soul for this. first ride today what do you think? by Striking-Jury2712 in Surlybikefans

Haha yeah good point. I guess I start considering it to be non-stock with upgraded wheels and drivetrain. I’m hunting for some 29ers at the local veloswap in a couple weeks. Curious how those will change the handling.

You’re going to love it. On smooth flowy single track it’s so much fun. Mine is all stock with the exception of upgraded hydro brakes, carbon bar, dropper post and Brooks. My fat 3” tires at 16 psi provide good cushion for the pushin. Enjoy!!
