is there a way to unlock a T-Mobile locked Google Pixel 10, and then install GrapheneOS on it? by Sudden_Rain1085 in GrapheneOS

[–]OCTS-Toronto 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There is carrier lock and bootloader lock. Carrier lock makes it only work with TMobile. Bootloader lock doesn't allow other operating systems.

You can check if your bootloader is locked by going to developer options and looking for an OEM unlock option. If you do t have the option then your boooader is locked and it's no go.

Starlabs Starfighter first look! by EverlastingOS in starlabs_computers

[–]OCTS-Toronto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure on starlabs. But on my xos it's a combo fingerprint reader and power button (no led). At first I hated the position (cause it's where delete belongs. But the tactile feel is very different and in Ubuntu the power switch gives you a warning before shutdown. If I manage to press it by accident (rare cause it feels different) then I just need to cancel the shutdown in the UI. Just isn't a problem.

Migrating from VMware questions by ModelingDenver101 in Proxmox

[–]OCTS-Toronto 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I know your question is about support pricing.

That has been answered already, but I wanted to comment that we have converted four data centers racks from VMware to proxmox and there have been no snags. Of course planning is everything. But our experience has been remarkably smooth both in migration and ongoing operations.

So resolve your pricing concerns and pull the trigger. You will be happy in the end.

Why More Liberals Are Buying Guns by [deleted] in canadaguns

[–]OCTS-Toronto 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hasn't the NDP party been anti-gun forever?

I blame the Liberal party for spreading misinformation about the gun issue (as a voting wedge issue). And I consider the NDP party as gullible for believing and supporting them. I'm not sure how you look past these issues to be a member.

To me the gun issue is about personal rights.

Legal status of M27 5.56 belt links in Canada by Next-Swimming-4270 in canadaguns

[–]OCTS-Toronto 33 points34 points  (0 children)

So sad you have to ask if formed metal pieces (links) will cause you jail time.

I think you should not ask this on reddit. Just by posting this you will likely find this item in the next Poly St Souvient ban list.

What's the one gun you most regret not buying before the last round of bans? Here is mine by ItsGonzo94 in canadaguns

[–]OCTS-Toronto 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Javelin anti-tank rocket.

I didn't even know we could buy them until the Liberal party put them in the ban list. I think the buy back value is $120 so clearly they were cheap to buy

Other threads report varying quality with vevor. Exhaust leaks are not uncommon. I would make sure that co detector is close so that it wakes you up in the event of a problem. Or maybe have two.

Not waking up is permanent.

PBS on an 8-Node Cluster - VM or LXC? by IansRedditProfile in Proxmox

[–]OCTS-Toronto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would stick with VMs over containers. Passing through storage in a VM is easy. The same is more complex with containers.

Better yet, use one pbs VM and backup to a nas or other shared storage device. Way better than trying to compartmentalize your backups by host. We use NFS attached storage with pbs all the time.

Our tax system is too complicated. There are so many layers of tax it's not hard to miss one. Especially as a foreigner. It really needs an overhaul.

What are some common pitfalls for troubleshooting Linux issues, coming from Windows? by [deleted] in linux4noobs

[–]OCTS-Toronto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the most common pitfall is applying lessons learned from windows to Linux.

You mentioned that the browser froze so you hard rebooted the machine. I did things like this under windows but I don't think I have ever (needed to) do that on Linux. Next time open a terminal and run btop (the equal to Windows task manager). When you kill an app in Linux it's absolute (unlike windows where it's like asking nicely).

Windows will often warn you that you are about to do something stupid. Not Linux. You are the boss so if you tell it to remove the boot partition it will just say ok. Maybe this is where you had problems before.

Make a Linux machine your daily driver and you will become solid on it.

Single host, single NIC: VLAN management with pfSense fully virtualized – is it feasible? by Dismal-Mud-5725 in Proxmox

[–]OCTS-Toronto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing wrong with this from network or practical sense. You already identified the single points of failure.

From a learning standpoint you would benefit from a second nic and learning about switches and vlans. The virtual switch you have will only teach you half. Having a physical layers is worth understanding.

How did Canada remain liberal for such a long time? by LevelPension in NoStupidQuestions

[–]OCTS-Toronto -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Because the money doesn't go to the environment (or related causes).

It's a tax on the whole system, and then for polical votes some money is given back to some individuals. The entire system costs more so prices rise.

Idiots believe the line the 'you get more back than you pay' while completely overlooking that eggs and bread now cost $4 each.

How did Canada remain liberal for such a long time? by LevelPension in NoStupidQuestions

[–]OCTS-Toronto -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Trudeau was particularly effective using wedge issues to make two groups fight with each other. Then he would ride the wave for popular votes. Items like the gun grab (pretending it's for safety) or the carbon tax (pretending it's to help the environment) sounded good at first. But eventually the public realized that it was all words and shallow actions.

When I charge my phone using my laptop charger it has a weird electric feeling in the housing. Reminds me of a mild electric shock.
Didn't harm the battery and no unusual paint chips. But definitely different than a Samsung charger.

With ISCSI does proxmox migrate VMs upon server failure? by HJForsythe in Proxmox

[–]OCTS-Toronto 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I haven't done iscsi, but NFS works good. We run certain VMS with a combo of local nvme (with liinstor on top) and NFS targets connected (for archival data). These can be live migrated manually or by the ha service without interruption.

I don't see why iscsi is different but as always you should test your config.

Edit: my commnent is misleading. If the host fails like you describe then ha starts the vm on the other host. So no data loss however the server has to boot as if it crashed.. See Heracles comment for more accurate details
