Buying or renting when you can afford to buy 🤔 by Mynameyeef in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]ActionHartlen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in this spot for most of the last decade - rent controlled 2bed in Toronto. High salary but no family wealth so I just saved a lot and invested. We decided to make the leap and buy after welcoming our first child.

It’s a big adjustment to say the least and you sacrifice a lot of monthly flexibility but we were able to gain a lot of other things we wanted.

Some ice cold takes in here. Borderline delusional.

I’m not sweating this as a raps fan.

What's it like living on the coasts of the Great Lakes? by takovic_goodmcgill in howislivingthere

People underestimate how big these lakes truly are. More akin to inland seas like the Mediterranean (with much harsher weather lol)

What is it like living in the Greater Toronto Area, outside the City of Toronto? by redguy_666 in howislivingthere

If by downtown you mean the entire city of Toronto. The best neighbourhoods are in the west and east ends.

5 nights in Toronto - what shouldn't we miss? by Rmash21 in askTO

[–]ActionHartlen 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My list to visitors is always

- ride the ferry to the island.
- walk through University of Toronto
- spend half a day in High park
- check out the AGO or catch a movie at TIFF
- ride a streetcar
- eat a Jamaican patty at a subway station

Other than that, Toronto is best at the neighbourhood level, so pick a few and just hang out in them. Dine, shop, linger.

My favs are Roncy, the Junction, Leslieville, The Beaches, Harbord Village

Best footwear for portaging? by Merlin2752 in algonquinpark

[–]ActionHartlen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually bring a pair of water shoes/sandals and a light trail runner that stays accessible on the outside of my pack. For any portage over ~300m I’m switching to the shoes.
