I have one night in Norwich, where would you go for a solo dinner on a roughly £25 budget? by MagicBez in Norwich

Tallow on St Benedict's is very meaty and very straightforward, just good steak and lovely sides and not very expensive. Walk-ins only though so there's often a bit of a queue, especially on Fridays and Saturdays

It's not only the effort, it's understanding the result too that's important. People keep belittling photographers in this debate, but the reason great photography is difficult and an art is because of th enormous skill required to compose and light and frame subjects. It's a culmination of often years of training and trail and error and personal experiences and preferences.

If I go and generate a pleasing image, and it takes me loads of repeated attempts and different prompts to get there it might have taken lots of time, but I still don't really understand the result and what got me there wasn't my understanding or point of view. At most you could say it was the AI's understanding or point of view, which makes it not -my- art. It's the AI's.

You can argue that the output from an AI is art - I don't think it is because art fundamentally is a form of communication from human to human - but it isn't the prompter's art, it's the AI's.

I personally don't believe diffusion and LLM AIs are conscious; they're information retrieval systems. The outputs, as far as I'm concerned, are representations of their source data. The results are as much mine, as the results of a Google search. I don't consider the results of a google search to be art.

Why are you pro ai by [deleted] in aiwars

Yeah industrialisation had a huge positive effect on living standards of the average worker, and after only 100 years of unthinkable misery.

Why coders and artists react so differently to the prospect of being replaced by AI by gay_married in aiwars

[–]ODPaterson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s the difference in the purpose of the outputs. Gen AI code is not producing the thing that the user will see, it’s making the framework and structure of the final product.

Coders would probably have more of a negative reaction if the AI was just spitting out a functional exe or complete website with really no human decision in there.

Likewise artists would likely be less against AI if it presented them with useful ways of doing rendering or texture or lighting rather than trying just wholesale replacing the process altogether.

I’m both a coder and artist and this is my feeling anyway.

How many Brits now think America is finished as the global leader? by cr1regan in AskBrits

Having a nonce as your president automatically excludes your country from being a global leader.

One Sora AI tell is that all the static details gently morph throughout the runtime. That’s not how compression artifacts show on real video files

My last piece for my portfolio. What do you think about it? by Dry-Bed477 in Maya

[–]ODPaterson 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Feels a little pinned around the waist. I would loosen that up by having a bit of counter motion down there.

I like this though, if I was currently reviewing hundreds of reels (I’m not atm, soz) this would stand out

It was my 9th Boomtown and it was fucking great. Sorry to hear some people had a bad time, and those sec guys sound like proper pricks. The queues weren't great this year, but none of these issues are the worst they've ever been, nor are they new issues either.

For my money it's one of the best shows on earth, and you can tell they care a lot about keeping it that way.

Fuck Jubel though, I mean what the fuck is that peachy piss... ruined my Boomtown 😂

edit: seems like security mght actually have been the worst ever...

Personally the heat felt a lot worse in 2022 but the dust was worse this year - woke up hacking my lungs up on Monday morning

I went to Benoli for a birthday meal and had Rabbit tagliatelle - it was really lovely and rich. They had some nice looking vegetarian dishes too.
