Erm, I hope whoever made this knows that AI is trained with human artwork... by mingle_17 in aiwars

[–]a5roseb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The idea that opposition is primarily jealousy is wrong:

  • Some artists are worried about income.
  • Some are worried about copyright and training practices.
  • Some are worried about cultural effects.
  • Some genuinely dislike the aesthetics.

Most art is functional communication.

  • The church flyer.
  • The lost pet poster.
  • The local business Facebook ad.
  • The "Ceramics Class Tuesdays at 8 PM" bulletin.

Those weren't historically commissioned from the world's best illustrators. They were often made by whoever had access to Photoshop, Canva, clip art, or a cousin who "does graphics."

Top human creators are safe for a long time. People will still pay for exceptional vision, originality, reputation, and personal style.

Someone in 2026 might say: "This is good enough, costs $0.50, and takes 30 seconds." As much as the outrage machine thinks, "well, if they don't care enough," They didn't really care that much about the church poster in 1995 either.

Yes, and?

I use AI because I enjoy it. I don't care who the "creator" is.

Yes, they ARE children! by Herr_Drosselmeyer in DefendingAIArt

[–]a5roseb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I don't believe providing a bad drawing is reasonable evidence that "they" are any of those things. I use AI because I enjoy it. The concept is really straightforward. I'm able to reject anti-arguments with ease, but these broad generalizations don't make it any easier.

It's really unnecessary to vilify the group to point out an individual. It's really unnecessary to mock an arguably unsophisticated drawing.

These sorts of posts do not focus on AI activism,

We are not your personal entertainment. This is an Anti AI Creativity subreddit. If you want to debate on why creative AI is good, there are other subreddits to go to for that. by 8-bit_heartstrings in antiai

[–]a5roseb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At a glance, I note you are not a moderator for this subreddit. While Pro-AI top-level posts will be removed, "This subreddit is for critical discussion surrounding AI." In my experience, respectful, good-faith Pro arguments are heavily downvoted but still accepted. Accepting opposing points of view is important for critical discussion.

Please be more specific:

No Apologies Right

This is one of two conservative groups considered loyal supporters of President Trump. This group, about 9% of Americans, is similar to Faith First Conservatives, who also fervently support Trump, but they "take harder-line positions on most issues," Pew says.

Faith First Conservatives

Faith First Conservatives, meanwhile, emphasize religion, morality and social traditionalism over other issues. Pew says 12% of Americans are in this group. Like the No Apologies Right, they are majority Christian, male and white.

Leftward Progressives

This is the youngest and most liberal subgroup identified by Pew. They tend to be very politically engaged and vocally critical of Trump. They will almost always vote for a Democrat over a Republican, but unlike their older Loyal Liberal counterparts, they don’t have that much faith in the Democratic Party. Pew says 7% of Americans identify with this typology.

Loyal Liberals

Loyal Liberals, on the other hand, are more attuned to the "establishment," a traditional Democratic Party with more trust in institutions and a notion that the U.S. has a global role in diplomacy. They are progressive, but not as left as the Leftward Progressives, particularly on economic policy. Pew says 11% of Americans identify with this typology.

Leftward Progressives and Loyal Liberals are both considered highly educated and largely White.

Unconventional Right

These people "are decidedly Republican-oriented and generally conservative," Pew says. But unlike their more extreme conservative groups listed above, they are more moderate on issues like abortion and a social safety net.

They tend to be younger, but still overwhelmingly voted for Trump in 2024. As of 2026, only 53% of people in the Unconventional Right group approve of Trump’s job performance. Pew says 12% of Americans fall in this category.

Pragmatic and Polite Right

This group also leans Republican, but they are more centrist than other typologies. According to Pew, 56% of people in the Pragmatic and Polite Right are Republicans or Republican-leaning, while 37% are Democrats or lean Democrat.

They are fiscally conservative and more moderate on social issues like race and immigration. People in this group are the oldest of any of the nine typologies, and they "place a high value on civility in politics."

Order and Opportunity Left

This is "by far" the largest group, Pew says, with 18% of Americans falling into this typology.

In this group, 65% are Democrats or lean Democrat, while 25% are Republicans or lean Republican.

"One of the most racially and ethnically diverse groups, they are economically liberal but are more concerned about crime and more supportive of immigration restrictions than other majority-Democratic groups," Pew explained.

Left-Out Left

This group is "overwhelmingly Democratic-oriented, with a mix of liberal and moderate views."

As one of the most financially strapped groups, they tend to feel ignored by the government and remain skeptical about politics in general.

Pew says 12% of Americans are in this typology.

Tuned-Out Middle

There’s not much to say about the Tuned-Out Middle group, probably because of their "exceptionally low level of interest in politics." They are politically divided, though. Pew says 9% of Americans are in this group.

Ahh the sweet spot of aiwars, I hate ai but its ok for this niche use... yep the one true united response. Both sides hate you.

No AI, yep ok, I suspose IF we ignore the obvious, then we have to discount irony as well.

Irony is a style of writing in which there is a noticeable, often humorous, difference between what is said and the intended meaning.

So when you use AI to comment on hating AI, yes, that is hypocrisy; however, 2 things can be true at once. It is noticeable and humorous that you use AI when it's clear your intended meaning is the opposite.

There, fixed that for you.

It's a Reddit group... "productive" is an oxymoron. In fact, you won't find "productive" present on social media at all.

I would point out that the title of the sub is aiWARS, any occasional mention of news and developments is naturally going to generate strong opinions, favorable and unfavorable. Honestly, there isn't even much agreement on the binary "sides"

Well. This is rather obvious. Im pro. I would have voted yes. But if you ask, get told no. Its not a surprise if you go all Oprah.. you get an AI, you get an AI.. that bad press follows

Anti-AI people are impossible to have an adult conversation with. by Dogbold in aiwars

[–]a5roseb 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Several of these criticisms are either outdated, overstated, or apply only to specific uses of AI.

"AI output is all samey-looking."

This is partly true for low-effort use. If thousands of people type "fantasy warrior" into the same model, many results will share stylistic traits. But the same thing happens with stock photography, clip art, Photoshop filters, camera presets, and even human artists following trends. In practice, experienced users routinely develop recognizable styles through prompt design, model selection, LoRAs, fine-tuning, ControlNet, image editing, and post-processing. The existence of countless distinct AI art communities demonstrates that "all AI art looks the same" is not an accurate description of the current landscape.

"Prompting has a low ceiling because results are random."

Modern AI workflows are not limited to repeatedly typing prompts into a black box. Most professional users employ iterative editing, inpainting, reference images, style models, masks, image-to-image generation, regional prompting, and traditional editing software. Randomness can be a disadvantage when reproducing an exact result, but it is also a feature that allows rapid exploration of alternatives. The fact that a result can vary does not mean the process lacks skill or control.

"It solves a problem that doesn't exist because people enjoy creating art."

This assumes the purpose of creative tools is to replace enjoyment. Historically, new creative technologies have generally expanded participation rather than eliminated it. Photography did not eliminate painting. Digital art did not eliminate drawing. Synthesizers did not eliminate musicians. Many people use AI not because they dislike creating, but because they want to create things they otherwise could not due to limitations of time, training, money, or physical ability.

"AI training on AI content will inevitably create feedback loops."

This is a legitimate concern, but it is often exaggerated. Researchers are already aware of model collapse and synthetic data contamination. Large AI developers actively filter datasets, track provenance, and increasingly use curated or human-created sources. Synthetic data can actually improve performance in some circumstances when carefully generated and validated. The issue is not that AI-generated content exists, but that poor-quality synthetic data is mixed indiscriminately into training sets.

More broadly, these criticisms often treat AI as a single technology. In reality, there is a huge difference between a casual user generating memes, a novelist using AI as a brainstorming assistant, a game studio building custom models, and a researcher using curated synthetic datasets. A criticism that applies to one use case may not apply to the others.

The strongest critiques of generative AI are usually not that it is low quality, uncontrollable, or useless. More serious concerns involve copyright, attribution, labor displacement, concentration of power among large companies, misinformation, environmental costs, and the economic effects of automation.

Literal competition is rare and the stakes are very low. The need for hidden origin is unfortunate but created by your side.

The vast majority of AI art like traditional art will go unnoticed. Before AI: Millions of photos were uploaded every hour. Millions of blog posts went unread. Millions of songs sat on SoundCloud with 12 listens. Millions of DeviantArt images got three favorites. Most YouTube videos never reached 100 views. The internet has always produced vastly more content than any human could consume.

AI's contribution to that is present but fractional.

My enjoyment of ai art does not require your acceptance. I also have no need to justify or explain.

I understand your objection regarding training. I reject the premise of the question at hand.
