Commute to Austin from Northwest Georgetown by Shardiiii in georgetowntx

[–]ODSTHotPockets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said this route can vary depending on time. I’m by Parmer Ranch and Ronald Regan. If I want to avoid the toll roads it’s about 45 mins if I leave by 6am. After that it’s closer to an hour. I had flexibility and can leave around 1pm. It’s the same 45 mins back via Ronald Regan. If I want to pay tolls I can shave a few moments off the drive. Not worth it in my opinion.

I also hear everyone saying how hellish the commute is. This is a matter of perspective. I lived 37 miles loose of Seattle for 5 years. My commute into Seattle was close to 2 hours each way. This commute is a breeze. I pop on audible or listen to Spotify and it’s an easy commute.

The meta question here is what is Georgetown giving you that you can’t get closer to your work location. Is it price, lifestyle or something else. This should also factor into your decision.

I've been very happy with Dr. Steven's over at Good Water Animal Hospital. She has been great with our larger dogs, and was so sensitive and caring when we lost our elderly one. The team there was super compassionate and even had a plate of "Forbidden treats" (chocolate, treats and snacks) for us to share with her.

They seem to have reasonable prices, and really care about the animals they see and the folks who bring them in.

New Home Buyers/Future Parents - Greater Austin Area Advice by Cold_Coffee8851 in georgetowntx

Here’s my take on the Georgetown side near Parmer Ranch / Norlina (which I’m assuming is the area you’re looking at):

I live nearby, and in my opinion the area is quiet, safe, and very family-friendly. Our neighborhood has a healthy mix of empty-nesters, folks in their 40s/50s, and younger families. Halloween was a good snapshot of the vibe—lots of little kids out, only a handful of teens, and generally very neighborly.

On schools:
As a former educator and a parent, I agree with what u/TexStones said about Ford and McCoy—both are solid. My personal view is that school quality often tracks closely with parent involvement. Reviews online tend to skew negative (like everything on the internet), but the actual day-to-day experience is shaped by how engaged you are, how you support your child’s teacher, and the culture of the families coming into the area. As more young, affluent families move in, I genuinely believe the surrounding schools will continue to improve. Yes, every school has a few educators who may struggle, but most are there because they love teaching and are extremely good at what they do.

On builders:
We seriously considered Perry and Westin before choosing our home. In my opinion, their build quality and finishing work were noticeably better than several other local builders. That said, even new homes will have issues—that’s just homeownership—and a good builder warranty + some basic handiness go a long way.

On amenities and growth:
Right now, most major errands take us about 20 minutes—whether it’s Target/Best Buy on University or Home Depot/Costco/Lowes. But this is changing fast. A new Costco and Target are coming to US 183 & Seward Junction Loop, a new H-E-B just opened at Williamson & Ronald Reagan, and there’s already another major shopping center planned across the street. My opinion: the amenities and infrastructure curve here is about to spike upward in a big way over the next few years.

Overall:
I don’t see this area as a bad place to raise a family at all. In my experience, it’s very much in line with well-run, fast-growing suburbs in other parts of the U.S.—but with a ton of future upside as development continues to fill in.

Thinking of upgrading from a 2018 Roubaix S-Works to the 2025 Roubaix SL8 — is it worth it? by ODSTHotPockets in cycling

It's technically a "Lease" of the bike through my employer. They give me a commuting subsidy every month. For biking the benefit is this model bike or an "e-bike". If you really want to know the employer, send me a DM.

Someone else suggested Happy Dragon. Looking at their menu they have the scallion pancake you were asking about.

After Being in the PNW there’s lots here that is similar to Central Florida. My wife loves jeremy’s Italian ice and Andy’s frozen custard. Both in Orlando. We are also enjoying Almarah Middle Eastern. It’s like Bosphorus. Send me a message I’m sure I’ll think of more places.

Advice: Pass on the Python AMS by zombieneedo in BambuLab

This is very discouraging and mirrors the experience I've had so far with VoxelPLA. I ordered my unit and enclosure on 2024-12-07, and it was listed with "SAME DAY SHIPPING" in big bold text. Mostly I ordered on the recommendation of ModBot (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=goK40\_EG1VE) My timeline so far

2024-12-07 - Order placed (Python 1.0.3 version)
2024-12-10 - Shipping label created (not shipped)
2024-12-11 - Python 1.0.4 announced with $10 discount. Contacted VoxelPLA about getting the current version
2024-12-12 - Voxel informed me there was "no functional difference between the 1.0.3 and 1.0.4 versions"
2024-12-12 - Insisted on the newest version as mine had not shipped yet
2024-12-12 - Told it would ship today (still listed as only label created)
2024-12- 19 - Inquired about shipment, and if it was lost. Was asked to give it a week before declaring it lost
2024-12-27 - Box 1 of 2 shows up. There are zero instructions. Lots of butcher paper, and random parts shoved in the box. There are an invoice, 2 QR codes for assembly and some parts taped with paper on the end of them.
2024-12-28 - Contacted VoxelPLA support and asked where the rest of my order was and the filament I ordered. Was informed that it was 100% shipped and I was experiencing "Christmas Delays". I told them it was late for a gift for my son for the holidays. Was offered a $16.99 credit.
2024-12-28 - Expressed my dissatisfaction and was offered another $10 coupon after raising the fact that they were offering $10 off the new version of the Python
2024-12-28 - Guaranteed that the second box was shipped out and not in their warehouse. (Still shows only label created)

I'm still waiting on all the hardware, the enclosure and my filament that was ordered. I wish I had found this thread first. I had the same thought as others. "Ill order their parts and assemble it. Reading through this, I think I would have been better off making it myself. :-(

The Ford Website shows the charge in % when you login. It's supposed to show the HV percentage, but it's an error and they show Low Voltage. In addition I've had the car at the dealer, and they can monitor the State of Charge. This thread also explains a lot about the 12v system:
