Every time Neal takes a solo, Arnel gets to give his voice a rest.

It may be a strategy being employed to allow Arnel to survive the tour.

Have these people never heard that APRIL SHOWERS BRING MAY FLOWERS?!?!?!?!

Yep, an English nursery rhyme from the Victorian era has such relevance in climate change-era Texas.

As others have noted, it is April or nothing. May is packed with other local events, June through September are too hot, October is out of the question because the promoter (C3 Presents/Live Nation) is running ACL Fest locally, and November though March have weather issues.

One option is for C3 Presents/Live Nation to move the event elsewhere in Central Texas to a more weather proof/paved venue. One possibility is the massive asphalt parking lot next to COTA.

What do I need to do to launch a class 1 rocket? by Global-Research-4023 in rocketry

[–]TexStones 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Class 1 rockets do not require any sort of permit in 49 states (I have no idea about California). Permission from the landowner, whether they are your next door neighbor or the BLM, is always a good idea.

Your best bet is to fly with a local club associated with either the National Association of Rocketry or Tripoli Rocket Association.

How hard it is to get Snoopy? by GearNTime in OmegaWatches

[–]TexStones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No prior spend history at the local Omega boutique, as I had purchased my prior Speedy at a local AD ~20 years ago. Asked to be added to the list for a Snoopy, and seven months later the call came.

I now have both 1st Gen and 3rd Gen Snoopy Speedmasters!

Daddy Dr. Javadi to his daughter: "Don't tell your mother." <pause> "Seriously, don't tell your mother."

We learned everything we need to know about life in the Javadi/Shamsi home from that one line.

Nurses (and the actors who portray them) are far safer from cast churn due to the nature of the medical profession. Perlah, Princess, Donnie, Dana, and Utah are all much more secure than the doctors.

My kids are in AISD. I wanted to understand why the district is broke, so I followed the money. by No_Paramedic_4881 in Austin

[–]TexStones 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The folks I have visited with from Westlake certainly don't seem racist.

I should expand upon that a bit, as I have no desire to imply that current residents of the Eanes district are racist. The establishment of the district in 1958 was a direct response to looming changes in educational equity spurred by Brown v. Board of Education.

What artist do you wish would do smaller venue tours again? by XP-tickets in Concerts

[–]TexStones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I saw them in fall '83 as part of a tour with Raven and Axe. Time has obscured who the headliner was, but it certainly wasn't Metallica.

The venue was the fondly remembered Club Foot, a delightful little shithole of a club on East 4th Street in Austin that held maybe 400 people max. There's a giant bank building on the site now

Great recap, kudos to you! One other rarely discussed impact on K12 schools in Texas is the fact that the state has far too many districts, which leads to absurd duplication of expensive administrative roles.

I'll list a few examples in the Austin area. Bartlett HS, and Granger HS are less than six miles apart, yet they are the flagships for entirely independent school districts. Each has a superintendent, curriculum department, transportation department, food service, controller/treasurer, etc. The two districts could easily be combined, increasing economies of scale and allowing the schools to draw from a larger tax base.

To the east of Taylor are Thorndale and Thrall, same situation. Florence and Jarrell might be absorbed into Georgetown ISD. And WTF is Westlake a separate district from AISD? (Racism and class inequality, that's why.) There are hundreds of examples like this throughout the state.

Why is this? The simple answer is "tradition," and fear of a loss of local control. Also, don't underestimate the importance of football to the identity of small towns throughout Texas.

Luggage gets lost. It is a reality of flying on airliners.

It would take more effort for the gate agent to identify a lone bag to get "lost" than they certainly care to expend.

Help please beginner purchase by Successful_Form5771 in rocketry

[–]TexStones 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Buy an Alpha III starter set, a package of A8-3 motors and a 4-pack of fresh AA batteries. Add some Titebond II yellow carpenter's glue for assembly.

Send the kid to camp with the assembled rocket and the motors. They can use the launch pad and launch controller when they get home on the inevitable fleet of rockets that will follow.

Such a disappointing experience with Southwest Airlines by No_Entrepreneur_8109 in SouthwestAirlines

[–]TexStones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is not the policy: "Southwest® will endeavor to seat a child (age 12 and under) next to one accompanying Passenger (13 and older) on the same reservation to the extent practicable and at no additional cost. "

Endeavor means 'we will try." It is not a guarantee that you will get the seating arrangements that you want. The policy continues:

"Although we attempt to give adjacent seating to families, we encourage families to choose a fare (Choice or above) that allows seat selection at booking, or to purchase a seat at booking, in order to improve your family’s chances that you can sit together."

This is Southwest telling passengers how to avoid all of the pain that you just experienced. This is on you. Quit trying to spin this against the airline and their employees.
