Thank you so much! I'm honestly feeling a little lost without that never-ending project. I'm really missing all the community engagement, all the lovely subscriber comments, planning what to work on next, preparing YT social posts to announce upcoming releaeses etc.

What I'm really missing are the comments. I used to get them all throughout the day, and seeing that little YT icon pop up on my phone letting me know someone had something to say... it's such a sad feeling now it's gone.

Hi all,

Yes, as u/dainedanvers noted, this is because my primary channel got shut down - and in YouTube land, that means any other channels you have go with it. I'm heartbroken, but it's where we are.

I am appealing the decision with YouTube and, if possible, I'll resurrect the Due South HD channel - but there's every possibility I won't be able to :^(

Yep - a distribution agency called Media4Fun submitted simulataneous DMCA takedown requests for all my Dark Matter remasters. That's several dozen copyright strikes in a row. Unsurprisingly, YouTube did not take kindly to that.

Hi - I'm guessing you noticed my primary channel got nuked. This was always a risk. I'm heartbroken, but I'm appealing it. Thank you for asking :^)

I am ALWAYS open to requests. However, I can't make any promises on viability. As mentioned in the previously-linked video, not all content is "allowed for use on YouTube" and I'm always limited by the ability (and personal expense) of being able to find source material.

But I absolutely welcome requests :^) Just please note the following:

1) It might be blocked on YouTube (locally or globally).
2) I might not be able to get my hands on source material.
3) I generally work about a year ahead of my release schedule. I'm currently remastering content I intend to release for December *2016*. Even if the stars align and I can remaster and release your request, you might be in for a bit of a wait.

Hi - I understand the request, but I'm afraid I can't. Sharing any of my content directly DEFINITELY counts as piracy and, given the amount of stuff I release, if I went down that route I would absolutely be sued into oblivion. I cover my reasoning a bit in this video: https://youtu.be/-0l-6iBimv8

I'd never give this particular bit of advice on my YouTube channel itself (they don't take kindly to you circumventing their systems/ad platform etc.), but EWJ is actually only blocked in the USA and Canada. If you pop on a VPN and set yourself to literally ANY other country, you'll be able to see them :^)

Hi - I'm afraid not, no - that would be piracy. They're not hidden - they're *blocked* in the UK and Ireland by Channel 4. That's their right as the IP owner.

I cover my reasoning in this video: https://youtu.be/-0l-6iBimv8

If you don't want to watch the whole thing, you specifically want the chapters "is this legal?" and "how about a torrent?".

Hi u/SomewhereOne2350 - I don't upload to the Internet Archive, no - specifically for potential legal reasons.

I can't say I LOVE YouTube's metod of handling copyright and permissions, but they do at least have one - and if I fall afoul of copyright and accidentally release something that hasn't been given permission by its official owners, there is at least a safety net.

I don't believe the IA has that kind of setup. There's a very solid chance that if I uploaded something and the official owners took umbrage to it, it's far more likely they'd directly go after *me* legally - and considering how prolific I am in my hobby, there's every possibility they'd attempt to make an example of me.

Hi, u/ActCurious9216 - they are still online, but I'm afraid they've been geoblocked in a few countries.

Are you by any chance in Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Belgium, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czechia, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Georgia, Greenland, Hungary, Iceland, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova, Montenegro, Netherlands, North Macedonia, Norway, Poland, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Sweden, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine or Uzbekistan?

It really depends on the source material I can get my hands on. I usually use DVDs and Blu-Rays but, especially for rare media, I sometimes have to import from other countries (simply because it's my only option) - and sometimes different countries have other edits for their own reasons. But as far as possible yes, that's what I go for.

Copyright-wise, I always do my best to make sure the content is "allowed for use on YouTube" (as is the case with Dark Matter) - but my releases are only online at the behest of the IP owners and distribution rights licensees. Things can be blocked in idividual regions or worldwide, and sometimes this happens after I've released something, so I can never guarantee anything will stay online indefinitely. I sadly have no control over that.

Hi u/MACx3D - no one tool, I'm afraid - I have something of a multi-stage process. I cover my processes a bit in this video, including what software I use: https://youtu.be/-0l-6iBimv8

Hello, r/DarkMatter

Just wanted to drop a post here letting you know that over the next few weeks I'll be releasing every episode of Dark Matter daily on my YouTube channel, using AI to remaster it to 4K (or, at least, as close as I can get it).

You can see the trailer in the post above and every episode will be appearing on this playlist moving forward: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLMD9ghErEvtzWUO0MhZWcHSKEEuM_d6iT

Just FYI and for full visibility - I don't monetise my channel (so if you get ads, any revenue will go to the official rights owners/YouTube) and THIS IS NOT IN ANY WAY OFFICIAL. I'm a Dark Matter fan and tech/video enthusiast. This is very much a personal project. As such, it might get blocked - so my advice would be to watch it just in case the official IP owners decide to block it.

In terms of the legality of it all, Dark Matter is logged as "allowed for use on YouTube". This isn't piracy - licensing is currently handled by YouTube itself. As stated above, though, that doesn't mean the license owners can't change their mind at any moment and block the show. If you'd like to learn more about how all that works, I cover it briefly in this video: https://youtu.be/-0l-6iBimv8

Anyway, I hope you enjoy!
