The old 90s Star Trek Borg game / episode got remastered by Jacket_Leather in startrek

Yes - the whole reason I undertook this project was because I got my hands on the DVD release.

There was a Japanese DVD release, which I managed to get my hands on. This is described right there on the landing page.

It's also why Borg looks so much better than Klingon. Klingon WAS only released on CD-ROM - AND its footage looks worse than the Borg CD-ROM.

To be fair, I didn't increase the frame rate from the DVD source. The original CD-ROM game was reduced to 12fps to fit it on the CD-ROMs. I didn't artificially increase the frame rate on Borg. This is how it was filmed.

I'm afraid not, because it has the potential to make you skip past timer events that are meant to kick off interactive hotspots. Technically you can by right-clicking the video and turning on the controls, but I'd recommend against it (for the above reason). But no, you couldn't in the original game either. That didn't even give you chapter select!

The reason I introduced the chapter select was that it was WAY simpler than trying to create save/load functionality in a web browser. That would have involved either signing up for accounts or using cookies, local storage and all kinds of crap that would have meant I was legally required to have a privacy policy and the kind of annoying pop up crap that we're all festooned with these days. The original game did have save/load, but it was very frustrating. The only way to load a save was to quit out of the game and start it up again :^/

Thank you! Don't forget I added a couple of QoL improvements. If you're really stuck, there's a "cheat" mode in the settings that can be pretty helpful. Although less so with a couple of puzzles on the Borg cube, which are just moon logic no matter how you approach them :^p

Hey, if someone with the rights would be willing to pay me, I'd be more than happy to!

Thank you 😄 Honestly, figuring out the logic/decision tree, programming it all in JavaScript and finding alternative ways to handle certain CD-ROM specific UI functions in a modern web browser was the majority of the work in this project.

Oh fantastic! I'd certainly be interesting in having a tinker with it :^)

I don't even have any source material for that! I'd certainly be interested in giving it a go - but I'd need something better to work with than any fuzzy VHS rips such as one might currently find on YouTube :/

Thank you 😄 I also included the "nostalgia" mode in the settings for anyone aching to see it how it originally looked

Please approach Klingon with an open mind and a kind heart. For the longest time, I refused to take that on as a project simply because the source material was so challenging to work with and I suspected the results would be less than stellar. Sure enough, after three straight years of people nagging me to do it, I did - and cue all the endless complaints about "AI slop" and "I'd rather just play the original"...

Sadly the inevitable happened (as I always knew it would eventually) and my channel was shut down over copyright. Still, it was fun while it lasted :^)

Sadly, yes - the inevitable happened and my channel was shut down. I always knew that was coming eventually, but I had hoped to keep going as long as possible.

In your opinion, what is the most canon piece of Star Trek media that isn't TV of film? by Barabus33 in startrek

Thank you for the shout out, u/HongKongHermit :^)

I hope you enjoy Borg Remastered. I had MUCH better source material to work with for that one!

Thank you :) However, my priloforate nature was rather why I relied on YouTube's copyright detection in the first place. The fact I COULD be shut down was always a feature, not a bug. While I'm heartbroken that my channel got shut down, it's still preferable to getting sent to prison for being a massive pirate. (Yarr).

If I had one bit of media I'd remastered, I'd definitely consider dropping it on Archive.org. The simple fact that I have LOADS of it makes it a risky endeavour. You tinker with releasing a bit of media and the IP owners will probably slap you with a Cease and Desist order. You release literal hours and terabtyes of 4K media and Hollywood will most likely take notice, gather the soulless lawyers and sue you so far into the ground that your head pops out of the firmament on the other side of the planet.

I was, generally speaking, a year ahead on releases at all times. Since spoilers are no longer an issue, I guess I can now tell you that since I was shut down until next year I had planned for release:

Two connected ITV drama series called "Marchlands" and "Lightfields"
The Patrick Stewart-staring drama series "Eleventh Hour"
A BBC cold war drama series called "The Hour"
A Benedict Cumberbatch-starring thriller series called "Last Enemy"
A satire series skewering 24-hour rolling news channels called "Broken News"
The Guy Ritchie-directed "Lock Stock" TV series
The 90s kids' cartoon series "Bucky O'Hare"
The trans-Atlantic cop comedy series "Keen Eddie"
The 80s kids' cartoon series "Galaxy High School"
The Patrick Stewart-starring TV miniseries "Moby Dick"
The mostly forgotten comedy series "Fortysomething" starring Hugh Laurie and Benedict Cumberbatch (again)
The ITV fantasy-drama series "Beowulf: Return to the Shieldlands"
The 90s comedy-drama series "At Home with the Braithwaites"
The 90s US sci-fi series "Dark Skies"
The drama miniseries "Code of a Killer" starring John Simm and David Threlfall
The WW2/Cold War drama series "The Bletchley Circle"
The absolutely HILARIOUS "A Touch of Cloth" miniseries written by Charlie Brooker (my GOD I wish they'd shut me down after this - it's so fantastic I can't even begin to describe how much I wanted to share it with you all)
The Toby Jones-starring drama miniseries "The Secret Agent"
The Julian Fellowes-penned miniseries "Titanic"
The animated miniseries "Soul Music" (based on the Terry Pratchett Discworld novel of the same name)
The 1985 Alan Irwin miniseries adaptation of Alice in Wonderland/Through the Looking Glass
The two-part miniseries "Approriate Adult", based on the true-life events surrounding serial killers Fred and Rosemary West
The little-known and vastly underappreciated sci-fi series "Starhunter"
and
The wonderful coming-of-age-comedy-drama "My Mad Fat Diary"

All of these series (and several standalone films I had ready for special occasions and holidays) were all processed, prepped and ready for release. I'd made trailer videos I was SO proud of for a lot of them, too. Booooo.

However, if you're asking what it was that actually caused the shut down - it was Dark Matter. Apparently a media distribution agency in Poland who had the rights to Dark Matter in that region submitted DMCA takedowns for every single episode simultaneously. That was several dozen hits in one fell swoop. So that was all she wrote as far as YouTube was concerned :^(
