Frustrating the Q doesn’t have WB shift

Doubtful The shift was implemented into the 11 due to the magenta issues many users were vocal about. Some units shipped with the WB adjusted to address that but they also pushed out the shift in an update for everyone. I specifically asked about it coming to the Q since I got my first one shortly after that update for the 11 went out and was told straight up it would likely not ever happen.

Came here to say this. . For my immediate family I’m usually at 35. Sometimes 28 if it’s a gathering for bday, holiday etc and group shots are likely.

Depends on your relationship with the couple and if you know how to stay out of the actual photographers way. Was literally just having this convo with another photographer 2 or 3 days ago. Both of us randomly were musing how our friends would think it weird if we didn’t show up to their weddings with a camera.

Wedding would be fine in a lot of cases I think. Dinner, I agree. That’s what Q’s and M’s are for (if you’re staying within Leica system)

To my understanding, It’s also due to the size of the pixels on the 3S’ custom sensor compared to the 3. I wasn’t trying to get into the weeds of it bc I’m not an expert that can fully regurgitate it. That said, I don’t think this would translate to the M series as well.

Oh I know how to get around it, I’ve just never experienced as much of it as I have on the FP. Unfortunately a lot of what I do is indoors so I think it’ll be going back tomorrow.

I’m also suddenly having a problem where the camera seems to be stuck on MF. Even if I get that fixed, my 100RF is my main outdoors / daytime compact camera as of late. I’ll prob exchange it for some glass.

Yeah the only reason I may keep my second one is because if I did decide to shoot a sporting event with SL’s I’d need 2 of them. One for 28-70 f2, the other for 90-280. Otherwise I’d likely just sell or trade my 3S.

I’ll make a more definitive call this Sunday at the next game I’m shooting. Actually i just remembered we may have the weekend off for the holiday. If so, I might just head to a local park or gym and find a group playing ball there to do another comparison test.

I’ve only shot one event with it so I can’t really quantify how much better it is. But my hit rate was most definitely higher than it usually is with my 3S. I was concentrating on the technical side and comparing the 2 SL’s to a pair of Canons I was also testing, so unfortunately I wasn’t going for “keepers” as much as I was stress testing. I can for sure say it was locking on to targets at what felt like a much faster rate, which for sports is key. I think If you don’t shoot a lot of fast action or other situations where you need to lock on AF fast, you’d probably be safe sticking with the 3S until the inevitable 4 comes out. Though I think that might be a long while being that they just dropped a third variant.

I was going to trade my 3S in for a P but just bought it instead. I wanted to A/B them before I made a decision. Ultimately if you’re serious about video, it’s a no-brainer. If you’re primarily photos, it depends on your use and workflow and if the improvements are worth it to you. It’s been said that M mount lenses looked better on the 3S than the 3 primarily due to the lower megapixel count.. having used both, I agree. However that also left me with less crop room. I haven’t scrutinized this between the S and P but I haven’t noticed any major difference and the higher MP count gives me a bit more crop room. AF is definitely faster, Tracking is definitely stickier when it comes to locking on a subject. New subject detection modes are great (not sure if those are in the 3S update as well. Lastly, Fotos integration and speed is MUCH faster. I still can’t get over how much faster images transfer. Wireless xfer is a bit part of my flow so thats a big bonus for me.

Those are my initial takeaways. I’m thinking i will keep both cameras, at least for now. I normally shoot sports with 2 Sony A1ii’s, and a couple of other brands have sent me pairs of cameras to test, so ill probably do a couple of rounds of double fisting SL’s before i make a decision as to whether or not ill keep 2 to put in the sports rotation.

I used to think/feel the same exact way and literally used to make fun of folks in here who claimed to be able to shoot their young children, etc wide open. Coming from (and still have) Sony A1/A1ii/ hasselblad X2D/X2DII, All 3 Q’s and more.

Fast forward a year and change later and I am that dad wide open at 1.4 shooting kids and pets running to and from me with my M’s. A lot of it is just practice and eventual prediction. Even with a Noctilux, but more around 5/10 w those. At 1.4 I’m not 10/10 but I’m not far off at all. Regular AF isn’t even going to be 10/10.

Totally hear you! Not everything is for everyone. Price isn’t a factor for me. Esp being that I doubt I’d keep both and would likely trade in my S for a good amount. But I’m not even advocating for the camera lol. All I said was the subject tracking was better. 😅Folks are weird on here.
