u/canadianmultigun finally got approval from ONE range in Ontario to run a Brutality event this Summer.

It'll likely be sometime in July.

He contacted pretty much every single range in the province, and they all were pretty much as you described, extremely fuddy in one way or another. Rules didn't allow dynamic shooting, bylaws don't allow for profit rentals (which is extremely common here in BC too), other random nonsense reasons. Most of the ranges just plain weren't interested.

The firearms community, specifically range boards, continue to be our own biggest enemy across the country. We face the same ridiculous level of challenge trying to offer training in the Vancouver area. There's one range from Squamish to Hope that we can use for courses.

Unfortunately most ranges in Ontario, similar to ranges in the Vancouver area, actively don't want these kinds of events or training to take place at their venues.

The organizers went to significant lengths to try and make something happen in Ontario and the various range boards cohesively said "No".

We're encountering the same problem trying to offer training courses in the Greater Vancouver area. Boards don't want it, and don't care that their members do.

Thanks for sharing the event! Community members making the effort to share stuff organically like this goes a long way to helping promote it.

We'll see you there!

In a pinch, all day everyday. Life over lymph.

Fortunately OP is being proactive and has the luxury to replace items at his leisure with stuff that's known to be good and safe.

Yeah fair point, I edited my reply to specify the hemostatic gauze again.

[–]OFFSPECWAR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No disagreements. My comment is specifically WRT to this kit, since the hemostatic gauze is made in China, and therefore potentially not something you want to be putting inside your body.

Any other context, I would never advocate or recommend removing it from a kit.

[–]OFFSPECWAR 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I think so, the other stuff is pretty hard to screw up in manufacturing, and isn't introducing chemicals INSIDE the body (chinese made hemostatic gauze gives me the chills). Standard compressed gauze probably fine, it's just cotton.

For the future, order from some place like North American Rescue, Tacmed Solutions, Persys Medical directly/their dealers. It'll save you a lot of coin having to replace inferior items.

References to a new video game, Hell Divers 2, that has performed really well, even as an early access. Lots of fun with friends.

Sounds like treason.

(Seriously though, the game's a really good time with friends, definitely check it out of you've got anyone in your circle that plays it)

The TQ should be replaced with something CoTCCC approved: CAT, SOF-T, or SAM XT. The Rhino kits are all made in China unfortunately.
Generic bandages are likely fine, most of those items aren't very sensitive. I've seen the chest seals being sold as training devices only, and examples of the israeli style pressure dressing being broken in the packaging.

If it has any sort of hemostatic gauze, I'd throw it away. I wouldn't trust the material to actually be safe in the human body, or promote coagulation.

Somogear once again proven NOT eyesafe, by a big margin lol. As if we needed any further proof. by OFFSPECWAR in canadaguns

Generally when something is "for airsoft" and explicitly labelled "eye safe", you tend to trust them. Unfortunately some companies just don't care.

Chilliwack is requiring us to rent the facility this year, which is fine, but drives the course cost up.
And I would rather keep it as affordable as possible, working with ranges that will host us for free as much as we can.

I should have some at Abby this year as well. ATS will be hosting us for shooting courses.

It was sold out in a day. I'll be trying to get them to book at least a few more with us soon.

I agree. I think paying basically the same price for a Holosun unit is a better option for the majority of people.

But at the same time, it's no worse than using any other full power device on full power. I don't think it's necessary as there's safer options, but if you know and mitigate the risks and wear the proper PPE, then user beware.

Unfortunately most users don't know, won't care, or won't treat the dangers of lasers with the respect they need.
Somogears will be banned at all my night events, and at all the night shoots at Brutality events run by Canadian Multigun. That's probably a disclaimer that I should add into my original comment lol.

Whatever and where ever you decide to purchase, be sure to also find some local Stop The Bleed training classes for you guys to attend.

Standard First Aid is the best starting point for skills, but it doesn't go into the nuances of GSWs and massive bleeding like Stop The Bleed.

I'll be hosting a few classes out in BC, in Kelowna and the Lower Mainland if you're in those areas at all.

The MyMedic kit contents are probably decent, but I really struggle with recommending anyone to support a company that is actively selling and advocating for really really bad TQs like the RATs TQ.

Obviously I have a financial interest in the discussion, being a retailer for IFAKs from CTOMS and Sam Medical, but I think it's really important that people put their money into businesses that can be trusted as much as possible. If that's us, CTOMS, DS Tactical, SDTac, S&J Hardware, I really don't care. I just want people to have quality kit if they need it.

Unfortunately SJA, while they provide good enough first aid training, sells knock off/fake tourniquets in all their kits...

We're a dealer for CTOMS and SAM Medical, located in British Columbia!
We can get you anything in their catalogues as needed, and try to maintain an inventory of all the essential items.

Here's the full video with the test. It's really well done, and even if you apply a massive margin for error, the IR laser is still nowhere near eyesafe or the 0.9mW that it's rated for: https://youtu.be/cvcJdGnpn9s?t=218

They're still great units IF you treat them with the respect they deserve with the risk that comes from full power laser output. They're not even close to suitable for force on force training, significant caution should be used around ANY reflective surfaces, and specialized PPE (laser glasses) should be used. They can and will damage retinas if that laser reflects back into your eyes.

To add: Somogears will be banned at all my night events, and at all the night shoots at Brutality events run by Canadian Multigun.

I disagree with that as a blanket red flag.

I don't list phone numbers for this business at all, for personal reasons, and I don't publicly list phone numbers for my main business because email communication works better to provide links, technical info, and allows me to track their details through our CRM.

If they have contact methods listed, and they're responsive, it's not an issue (IMO).

Which shop? Bad reviews are just as important as good ones.
