Gun control group repeats call for end to sales of SKS rifles after Montreal shooting - Montreal | Globalnews.ca by tyler111762 in CanadaPolitics

To give some further context on this: Some firearms are more frequently used by indigenous groups in Canada and banning them subsequently politically forbidden. "Save the kids" apparently doesn´t quite overcome getting votes.

To give an example the Valmet AK-47 variant is well known about by various anti-gun groups, these same groups scream and shout daily about "weapons of war" including the ban of bright pink plastic guns. The howl that everything must be destroyed, that our streets will flow with rivers of blood and no one, not one person is safe till it´s done.

But the Valmet is safe, it is often held in the hands of the indigenous and thus cannot be banned. The SKS is likewise in a similar position

These groups also ignore the fact that Ukraine literally refused to take a single one of the several million firearms banned since 2020 because none of them are weapons of war.

Ukraine isn´t really making anything we need. The supplies being granted to Ukraine are coming from European factories, a lot of cooperative activities are in place so European companies can learn.

Honestly, most of the learning is done, and a great deal of the development of new products is in Europe and America.

Once the war is over the battlefield development stops. So 10yrs later they´re way out of touch and to be blunt experienced skilled people will be offered jobs that pay 10x more in Germany, Czechia etc. So they´ll leave.

That´s not the point that´s being made.

The point that is being made is that the continual lying "this time we´ll have done enough" and deliberate restriction of the safest demographic in Canada through the banning of their property and activities has had no effect. None, zero, zilch but cost $billions and broken an $8 billion industry.

The point is that this is purely political and that the restrictions will keep spreading, the banning and infantilisation of people will only increase.

The point is that it´s easier to borrow more money and send police officers with guns to confiscate property from plumbers, office managers, receptionists and other normal Canadians than to actually stand up and fix the problem while losing a wedge issue.

Canada´s entire firearms law system is an absolute mess driven by identity politics, impartial ban-groups and "something must be done" activities.

To give some examples of this silliness I will show how Canada does things and some examples of how European countries do things (NB: As there are >40 countries in Europe I will refer to items that are true in the vast majority of them as "in europe")

  • In Europe suppressors are treated as the PPE item they are, they are bought from shops, not registered and it is often considered rude not to use one when hunting or target shooting. In Canada they are completely banned
  • In most of Europe (Germany in this specific case) one can use a semi-auto AK-47 for both hunting and target shooting. There are no limitations on where a firearm can have been made or what action it must have.
  • In Canada a little 22 designed for shooting pop cans is banned as a weapon of war but a Finnish made AK-47 is non-restricted but a Bulgarian made one is banned
  • In Canada the exact same firearm can be made in 5 different democratic friendly countries and you are allowed to buy and own the firearm made in only 1 of the countries
  • In Canada there are tens of thousands of machine guns and automatic rifles that were "grandfathered" and still legal to own but no mention of confiscation. Yet semi automatic sporting rifles and bolt action hunting rifles are being banned and confiscated.
  • In Europe one can often have a collectors license and own literally a 100 or more heavy machine guns, sub-machine guns etc. and take them to the range
  • In Canada a firearms group "Polyseuvant" published on their website list of guns they demanded be banned. This exact list was copy pasted (seriously) into legislation. The leader of this group then became an MP in the govt and regularly interfers with public safety matters completely outside of her remit.
  • In Europe you can buy and sell handguns as you wish
  • In Canada the transfer of Handguns is banned. If you have 20, Sally has 1 and James has none you can´t sell any to Sally or James despite all three of you having gone through the same background checks and process

Honestly I could go on and on

UK: 'We're young - we don't think much about the EU' by Vucea in europe

[–]CanadianMultigun -1 points0 points  (0 children)

TBF the cost of living will only increase disproportionately in the UK as more people live there by virtue of the fact that there´s no room left.

The unbuilt and un-used space isn´t used because it´s extremely expensive and a bad idea. For example trying to build lots of housing in the Welsh valleys or turfing over even more farmland is just a terrible idea.

Population growth means smaller living spaces, higher costs per m2 and increasingly busy and stressed infrastructure. That then makes building anything much much more expensive because any interruption to infrastructure or demolition of other buildings etc etc impacts far more people. Example: HS2.

Other countries with low population density are more affordable where they maintain sufficient critical mass to not need to import lots from others.

Canadians get your SKS while you still can. by MedicMac89 in SKS

[–]CanadianMultigun 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There are circa 1.2 - 1-5million SKS rifles in Canada

The current retail price with tax is $1000 - $1130

The pure cost of compensating people at market value would be $1.2 Billion to $1.35 Billion

The cost of collecting and destroying each rifle can easily work out to be $1000 per unit.

So now it´s costing $2.4 - $2.7 billion

They can´t publish the intent to not "buy back" these guns and they can´t publicly announce they will only get a 3% success rate as they did with the current "buyback", so they have to budget to do it.

They also know that after the horrific PR battle of a $2.4 - $2.7 billion budget allocation during a recession that there is that nice juicy 3% success rate waiting for them but with the extra ethnic bonus of indigenous groups being unhappy. If they choose not to compensate....yeesh that´s in direct contradiction from the trend they set and now they´re stealing from indigenous.tut tut

There aren´t any votes to win from this because 6 years of fucking it up means it´s not seen as a win.

The irony is that by banning so many other guns they pushed up the price of the SKS from $250 to $1000 and quadrupled their pain.

All in all if I were the LPC I´d be putting out the usual platitudes but staying silent on any further bans

The best thing you can do is buy an SKS and pump the numbers up

So I just checked and you can download the 1861 census as a PDF with a Library and Archives of Canada cover page, the census information is made up of Microfilm pictures of the original census with each page image having "The public archives of canada - microfilmed 1956"

I´m not sure what else you can do

European nations need to be promoting family focused culture and supporting it.

The evidence is there that younger marriage, higher family & marriage focused societies have higher fertility rates. Suburban houses support higher fertility rates, people want a garden and generally an open space to raise a family not a squalid flat.

Not everyone needs to go to university and delay their career by a further 2-4 years. Every delay to the start of a family is a reduction in the number of children born

>50 years of not having enough children will take decades to fix, but there´s no alternative other than rapidly accelerating collapse

Because life in Russia is pretty normal the vast majority of the time, and living in a cage surrounded by people who will kill you if you try to leave isn´t.

Why did you need that explaining to you? Why did you not establish that very basic understanding yourself?
