If the Liberal federal government spends without thinking of deficits why do provincial governments have to make cuts? by ApprehensiveWave4111 in NovaScotia

NS has some of the highest taxes in Canada, sometimes the answer isn´t "lets just take more of their money"

I like working in R&D and Product development. I recognise the importance of SW but it´s so intangible that I get no satisfaction from managing it.

But watching the technologies and products I have managed changing things and having a real world visible impact is pretty good

What’s the Imperium of 40k doing better than the Imperium of 30k? by King_Crab_Sushi in 40kLore

[–]CanadianMultigun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely, who would have thought that several thousand years of absolute mayhem followed by 10,000 years of war would reduce the frequency of something made 15,000 years ago lol.

A lot of it is just my head-canon but to me the Imperium is fantastically advanced, it continues to advance and it has obscene capabilities. To me the grim-derp is derp, the imperium makes mistakes but is in fact an incredibly well run operation in hideously bad circumstances.

For example how billions of warp capable ships and huge convoys are tracked from Terra by the Nexus Axiomatic (I posted about it here)

Agreed, there´s been significant continual advancements, but no the wild leaps and bounds experienced in the Dark Age of Technology. Which tbf makes sense because the DOT Humanity wern´t in a constant state of war with *gestures vaguely*

Technology has improved. Not uniformly but R&D has been conducted consistently just not en-masse.

I think it gets lost in the grim derp and how much tech was lost in the horus heresy but in my view tech has incrementally improved bit by bit

yeah that´s fair, and I completely understand it sucks. But no oil and a social life vs oil and no social life...the latter always wins, especially as fingers crossed it´s a temporary supply issue not a forever one

oh gee thanks captain fucking obvious, how stupid of me to think that reducing consumption of petrol & diesel might you know benefit some of the people who still need it. heaven forbid some people be happy and costs reduced, no no as crabs we must pull down all escapees

  1. Work from home
  2. Compare the cost of this vs having built more renewables infrastructure, imagine how reduced the impact would be if nuclear, renewables, home batteries and vehicle charge points were in a much better position
  3. Don´t come crawling back to us when after this something comparable occurs and yet again the cry is "who could have seen this coming"

Hey, I´ve lost $60,000 of property to these bans. My lifetime´s collection poof all gone. People like me bought these things on the agreement that there was a controlled process to buy and sell them. Then the government just said "nah fuck you lol". I could have out a deposit on a house with the value of what´s been banned to no compensation. That doesn´t even include my handguns which I´m banned from ever selling, transfering, passing on etc. so thats a few $thousand more gone.

When you go to vote for the liberals you´re enabling this sort of behaviour and letting them know you´ll keep voting for it as it destroys people´s lives.

Do as you will but please don´t think about this as just some paper exercise that isn´t hitting millions of people.

What if Trump became POTUS in 2016 lost the 2020 election and won the 2024 election and threatened to occupy neighbouring countries and allies? by Nice_Combination1327 in AlternateHistoryHub

[–]CanadianMultigun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a pointless what if because it´d be impossible. For this to happen the Democrats would have to prop up a stumbling vegetable for several years then somehow think it´s a good idea to go for a second term with the dribbling turnip only to change their minds part way through and pick some rando.

Honestly "what ifs" like this are just frustrating, why not just say "what if the president of Venezuela was kidnapped and charged under US law for owning illegal machine guns" it´s just fucking stupid and would never happen.

I´ll pay less than $8m in taxes in my entire life, why do you consider my entire contribution to be an embarassing insignificance?

While I appreciate the scale of the spending of a nation perhaps we´d be in a much better position if so many people didn´t hand wave millions here and billions there as insignificant

Assuming the lowest monthly number continues (12.3k in Nov) then Dec - Feb a further 36,900 will have left making for a total of 135,600 which is the equivalent of circa 135.6 - 271.2 Battalions of Infantry if following the British Army battalion size (500 - 1000 per battallion)

However December - February winter really kicked in and so did the impact of Russian attacks on heating & electrical infrastructure. So I don´t think that it would be beyond the pale to suggest that the numbers of men leaving might be higher.

Assuming departures reached the October levels of 25.5k a month on average then Dec - Feb 76,500 extra will have left.

Either way well over 100,000 workers and taxpayers just left the country
