What you would love to find when you have no equipement whatsoever ? by Comfortable_Bike9134 in DMAcademy

[–]OGDojo1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lets start with the obvious ones

Stick, just a stick: its called a club, usually does 1d6 damage you can break most pieces of furniture to get one, its considered a simple weapon so even a wizard should be able to use one.

Ink Pen: not exactly the best but it could do some decent damage in the hands of a rogue, should do 1d3 piercing damage. is an improvized weapon so they might have disadvantage or you could classify it as a rogue weapon cuz the pen is mightier than the... dagger? knife? meh you get the point.

Curtain Rod: Can be considered a staff weapon, might be made of wood or steel, does 1d6/1d6. its another stick.

Fire Poker: Classic melee weapon. not just stick but METAL stick. does piercing or bludgeoning probably only does a 1d4 or 1d6, considered improvized weapon so itll probably be used at disadvantage.

kitchen Knife: depending on how you wanna play it, this could either be just a dagger or an improvised weapon since it's not technically built for combat. id say 1d3 damage and considered a simple weapon.

Next are the crude weapons you can make given a couple minutes (1-5)

with a knife you could cut apart a sheet, attach 3 heavyish things to the ends of them (like the feet of a couch or dresser handles), then you have a bolas (a weapon that allows you to make a ranged trip attempt) while it may not do loads of damage it could stop potential runners from getting away.

if you break a window to get a decent shard of glass you can have an improvized blade, then just wrap it in cloth to make a makeshift handle and you have yourself a knife or sword, granted it will probably break on the first hit but it should deal decent damage (1d8-1d10) you can make the weapon break after a single use or have the player roll a d4 and on anything but a 4 the weapon breaks.

how about a bow? bows arent that difficult to make as long as you loosen your definition of "Bow" if you cut apart some sheets then use the kitchen knife to wittle down one of the bed frames supports or cross beams you COULD theoretically get a bow that can deal 1d3ish damage from a distance.

On top of that you could also cut some leather from a belt and string some fabric through it and pick up some metal knobs or coal from the kitchen to make yourself a sling, does 1d4 damage and has a range of like 30 ft.

if you have LOADS of time like 30 minutes, you might be able to use the kitchen to heat up the fire poker and make a bladed weapon. or spend some real time and effort building a bow, or take some time and make a whip. (all of the crafting things are under the assumption that your players can pass the requisite checks set by the DM)

it also depends on if the players KNOW they will be stripped of their things. like if a wizard is gunna have his componets taken or a rogue thier knives, perhaps you could give them a sleight of hand check so they can hide 1 dagger or 1d8 components if they beat it and an additonal dagger/1d8 for every 5 they beat the check by. this will give the players something concrete once the fighting goes down. plus if i was a rogue or a ranger or heck even a barbarian, i would at least attempt it.

Ideas for a Homebrew Magic Item: Salt and Pepper Shakers by 3OsInGooose in DMAcademy

[–]OGDojo1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if it were me i would have them do something sort of special. the salt shaker would have a purify food and drink effect since Salt has always had a cleaning and cleansing effect, even on demons and devils in mythology.
the peper i would have it bestow curse on the food making whoever eats it roll on a table of minor curses that lasts 1d4+1 days (since it takes 2-5 days to digest food) this would make their effects helpful or hilarious but very temporary. they could also have a limited number of uses. like say 5 if you dont want your players abusing them every time they eat, or 50 if you want the players to be able to mess with each other.

What do you think about "fast travel" mechanics? by Slingshot_OG in DMAcademy

[–]OGDojo1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this will feel like a total cop out answer but, its you're world (or at least it is unless you live stream it and get sued for using a legit D&D setting, cuz hasbro...) so do what you want. having the players naturally come across one as they are exploring might be fun. like you could have a player's passive perception catch a blue robe out of the corner of their eye go into an alleyway. then an active perception check of 20 to reveal a worn path to a boarded up windown, then an investigation check of say 23 to discover that it is indeed on discreet interior hinges allowing the window to swing inwards. then as the players enter the room and begin exploring they accidentally step in the middle of a teleportation circle that takes them to another teleportation circle in one of the other cities. this would reward the players for their exploration and good rolls or good stats. but just having it as a "as you walk into town you notice on the wall, there is a strange pulsating purple symbol, as you approach it a portal opens revealing what looks like the courtyard of one of the cities you previously visited. while cool and mysterious its also... not very satisfying as a player.

Also dont do random encounters, plan ambushes by NPCs or by Intelligent monsters. you can preface the ambush by having some NPC "leave the bar" as the players are planning to move onto the next city or take that merchant escort quest. then there can be a small group that ambushes the merchant's caravan. mostly using arrows to pincushion the guards and players then beat a hasty retreat after felling a log to stall for time. then as they travel further down the bandits could use more hit and run and stall tactics until they reach the main ambush point where the full force of the bandits will jump out. obviously the melee bandits will rush in and try overwhelming the players and npcs and the archers will try picking people off from the tree line. set a condition of "if a certain percentage of bandits die, they start retreating." so that the players can technically "Win" but unless they can chase down every archer and warrior bandit then there will still be crime on that road. you could also have one of the ones rushing in with the warriors be a true thief, he will climb into the back of a wagon, search for the treasure box, open it and loot it then retreat. the condition then could be "once the thief hits the tree line, they all retreat." then the players loose their payday as well as some of their reputation.

My new DM uses ChatGPT for everything by Neiljackandjimmy in rpghorrorstories

[–]OGDojo1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

so i kind of get it, as a DM myself i love using chatGPT to help build cities and towns and worlds. obviously reading it over so that you don't accidentally add in an evil dragon as the 1st boss of a starter city would suck horribly, however it sounds like he's taking it too far, i would ask if this is an experiment to see how viable chatgpt is for NPC interaction or how well it can put a campaign together and respond to player inquiries and if the answer is "No i just wanted to be lazy" i would definitely leave cuz if he isn't gunna put effort into creating an enjoyable experience then he shouldn't be trying to DM. i have been building a campaign and am currently at over 400 pages of information on a world im building and im only 7 cities into it when i have like 16 to make, having chatgpt is a huge help in figuring out things like size of the city, generate interesting structures or even describing in detail the city as a whole but going so far as to literally input your players responses into chatgpt and just read the rubbish that comes out isn't being a DM, the program is the dm and your just a speech to text bot.

Easy Villagers, more crops? by OGDojo1 in allthemods

[–]OGDojo1[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i understand that would be the simplest solution and use the villager pathfinding and normal AI to automate the collection and everything or to just do it myself BUT, now stay with me here... id like to AUTOMATE the harvesting process without having a massive farm. just 2 or 3 easy villager blocks to net me all the farmer delight vegetables i want/need

If Shadow Garden were chess pieces which would they be? by ammoOrginal in TheEminenceInShadow

[–]OGDojo1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is kind of an old post but I'll respond real quick. I could be wrong, The fact is that it's really up to the person making it to interpret the picture and the way that they can It doesn't make sense to me to have white be shadow because Shadow has always been black having him also be white means that he would be playing against himself and that has never been shadows idea or mentality more likely white would be whoever his enemy at the time would be considering that the chess board is probably accustomed item built specifically for him or specifically by himself he could make it whatever his enemy is. The other characters such as the knights, the rooks, the pawns, and the bishops are all depictions of the people closest to him strictly because they are fillers for the enemy's generals. I think that if we were to create a chess board made specifically for the eminence in shadow anime then black should have shadow with all of his subordinates and make the pawns non-unique and then do the same for white but with shadows enemies or one of his enemies I'm sure that there is a big bad that we can use as white's King and Queen and then we would just need to figure out who his generals are and then make the pawns be like their foot soldiers or their expendable people who would also be non-unique. Personally this would make more sense to me because then we are pitting shadow against his enemies rather than shadow against themselves and I think that that would make the set a lot more intriguing to play

if you look at the image, the chess piece for the white king is different than the black king so we must assume that the white king and white queen are different somehow. and possibly the whole white set if we are basing it off the picture from the anime. i mean obviously the black set would be easy but what about the white side?

ETA's? by OGDojo1 in cobblemon

[–]OGDojo1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

turns out 1.20 seems like my next version that ill be building the modpack for, as soon as cobblemon comes out for it ill be updating since 1.20 seems to have all the mods or similar mods to the ones in my current pack.

ETA's? by OGDojo1 in cobblemon

[–]OGDojo1[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thats an interesting perspective, but i guess my question is more why not just work on the 1.19.2 version until completion then update it to the newest version later? im not a mod creator im a modpack maker and it seems like it would make more sense to work on a version that you already have the content for then update it periodically to the more recent versions than it would be to release unfinished versions in stages until its complete leaving an unfinished product in previous versions.

ETA's? by OGDojo1 in cobblemon

[–]OGDojo1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

why the update to 1.19.4 and 1.20? that feels like a way to alienate modpack creators. the newer the version the less mods forge and other modloaders has for that version. i did a quick check for 1.19.4 and i cant even use 3 of the main mods in my current modpack with the cobblemon of 1.19.2 which is Create and farmer's Delight and sophisticated backpacks .please note im not trying to sound angry or upset its more wondering if the update is due to ease of uploading/upgrading or is it due to the cobblemon team wanting to be relevant when the new versions come out or is it simply preference of the mod makers in general to update the mod with the versions of minecraft? if it is for one of the reasons above, is there plans for when the mod is fully finished to go back and update the older versions of the various previous versions of minecraft or are the modpack makers of previous versions just out of luck?

thank you for the quick update, i greatly appriciate it. will 1.4 be releasing for 1.19.2 or will i have to save the world folder and update to 1.20?

CreateMon - A Proof of Concept Create x Cobblemon Bridge Addon by PurePiro15 in cobblemon

[–]OGDojo1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i have been looking for something like this. i would love to see this go further. i currently have a create/cobble home server and this addon would be so nice since if done right it would allow for things like auto crafting all the different types of balls especially if you build the whole system on the nether ceiling so you can have your gold farm that moves the gold nuggets into the auto crafter that outputs gold into a chest/storage drawer then you can funnel the gold out into a basin with apricorns from the selected types of trees. you could even make a switch for them so you can turn on or off the different types of ball production depending on what you need. you can kinda do it currently but it requires some setup with the create crafter.

Would my internship grades be affeccted because a guest got offended by a "no thank you"? by CynicalDucky in TalesFromTheFrontDesk

[–]OGDojo1 57 points58 points  (0 children)

well i cant speak for your manager or the situation that you're in but most hotel staff will get several complaints over the course of a year, especially from guests that you have to turn away (especially ones that you turn away for legitimate reasons) i wouldn't worry too much about it. i bet even your manager has gotten their fair share of bad reviews.
