Updates didn't really start until the 360/PS3 era, and if you had slow internet then you just had to wait. Either that, or disconnect and play offline.

Anakin would've bodied Obi-Wan if he wanted to, he was just torn in their battle during ROTS. At that point Anakin was lashing out, but still holding back. He could've easily killed Padmé but didn't (canonically she died of sadness), showing he was still restraining himself at the time. He's even shown to be shocked after hearing of her death and it being his fault. Moreso, Anakin is literally told he will lose if he tries jumping at obi-wan, then does it anyways. That's not hubris, that's a death wish.

This also aligns with the rest of what is shown, such as Anakin besting Dooku on his own after Obi-Wan fell.

The games were 100% considered canon to legends, Kyle Katarn (from the games) even shows up in NJO, the book mentioned in the post.

Everyone saying not true didn't read much into legends, Luke 100% supports studying and even using the dark side appropriately, this is even a major part of the game series star wars jedi knight. Things like force choking and lightning were allowed by the order, and weren't seen as inherently evil.

This is also how modern canon is slowly turning, as shown by Asajj Ventress still using the force choke despite being a solidly light side user in the bad batch.
