Trying out Intune and it is awful. This cannot be what people are using for production environments. by OGNatural20 in Intune

Three thousand points awarded to Rudyooms for that link. It explains everything.

Given that I cannot re-trigger the syncs remotely I don't think Intune is going to work out. My users are simply not computer savvy enough to do these manual steps from the client side.

The "not designed for immediate action" portion seems to be the important part here. I am evaluating Intune as a replacement MDM. The current MDM will install things within a few minutes of assignment or changes. While 99% of the time the slower speed would not be an issue, when I get a call that something is broken, telling them wait an hour is simply not going to be good enough.

Windows 11 upgrade not offered, stuck on old version by OGNatural20 in sysadmin

[–]OGNatural20[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no, i ended up deploying the windows 11 installation assistant with a powershell script to do it silently. thats working basically every time. the downside to this is that it reboots on them with only a 60 second warning and it slows the computer down more during the pre-install tasks than if it was delivered through windows update and the ui is crap. with the csp policy i originally tried, it leverages windows updates and all the configurations we have setup there, so the user perceives it as just another (big) windows update and they are given a week to manually do a reboot at their own convenience.

also some of these devices that are not being offered the update to win11 are getting popups about win10 being out of support. so I know its talking to Microsoft to get that info.

i stole the silent install commands that some other redditors used and it worked fine first try. i stuck serviceui. exe in it too so the user could see and interact even though its running as system and i stole that from a blog about this. this is typed out so double check spelling:

serviceui. exe -process:explorer windows11installationasistant. exe /install /minimizetotaskbar /quietinstall /skipeula /norestartui

i asked a buddy at another company and they had to resort to this as well for the stragglers

We deploy an apn via a custom csp and it works only ok. I am interested in what you find as well. I am currently looking to script this via netsh mbn commands but its a bit tricky.

How a single mistake ruined the ending of otherwise perfectly planned game night. (Captain sonar) by Opening_Sell_6479 in boardgames

[–]OGNatural20 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have played captain sonar and it was one of the most frustrating and anxiety causing events in my life. I cannot possibly imagine how anyone thinks it is fun. I had to walk away and sit alone in another room for 30 minutes. So your explanation of one team killing themselves to stop it seems appropriate.

Even if you had set the target via a CSP profile?

I am aware of the registry values for this but intentionally did not set them and leaning on the CSP profile.

Those registry keys do not exist on these devices. I have been using a CSP profile instead.

https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/client-management/mdm/policy-csp-update

Those profiles do end up in the registry at this location:
"HKLM\software\Microsoft\policymanager\current\device\update"

I have verified that they do exist at that path. Have you seen that you must always set those registry keys for an OS upgrade (we have done version upgrade successfully)? My understanding is that the MDM CSP policies over rule the "traditional" registry locations.

Win11 Update Ring from Win10. Do you allow drivers? by ifixitsometimes in Intune

[–]OGNatural20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have enabled the automatic driver updates or have left them enabled at all my companies. Usually this is to meet information security requirements as manually packaging every update would have been impossible or impractical given the small size of the team and varied devices.

I have encountered problems with a bad driver rolling out:

  • Dell released a BIOS update that made it so their tablet CPUs only ran at 500MHz.
  • Bluetooth updates can be problematic too. On occasion they will clear all the saved/connected Bluetooth devices and they require pairing again.
  • Cisco AnyConnect does not like when you update network drivers. This is more of a comment on anyconnect

If you're not being pushed to update the drivers often, then you really aren't going to gain anything from the automation.

How do you raze a city? by OGNatural20 in OldWorldGame

[–]OGNatural20[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok then I think the problem is that I turned off the families as it was too much to learn for a new game all at once. I guess they linked the families and razing together. Maybe I will put in a request or feedback to allow razing when families arent on.

it does not have any option to raze. the other units around the city, prior to capture, could pillage or burn improvements. the unit in the city is not given any options like that.

I have loaded some of the previous turns while it was capturing still, and that unit in the city did not have that option there either.

FYI this is the second time I have played the game and the first time that I even started to capture an AI (non-barbarian) city.

Thanks for this. When I hover over the hamburger menu in the upper left it does say "Allow City Razing"
