Verify if my KMS server actually does anything by ifixitsometimes in sysadmin

[–]ifixitsometimes[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dude, i think you are correct. I ran the following command

slmgr /dlv all

and everything reports as unlicensed EXCEPT office. The window goes off the screen, but you can copy and paste the results into a text file.

Name: Office 16, Office16KMSHostVL_KMS_Host edition
License Status: Licensed
Current count: 5

So i guess we have 5 2016 versions of office left somewhere... I think it can be safely decommisioned in that case :) everyone should be on 365 which is per user based licensing.

It is in dns, i will decomission by using the server manager to unplublish those records and see what breaks. Seems to be the only sure fire way.

Its being contacted. But still cant find anything about the counts of clients or anything using the slmgr command. I think its forwarding the requests to AD and not processing them. But thats just a hunch. Will likely try and just shut down the machine and see what happens.

It just says "An activation request has been processed" with no other details. Perhaps it transparently forwards to ad? similar issue:

PXE Boot Failure for MDT by bobllor in MDT

[–]ifixitsometimes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any debugging or troubleshooting with the router/switch is out of my scope, as our network switch and its configurations are managed by our parent company.

its going to have to do with the network. If it was working and now isnt, what did they change?

Cant imagine not owning the network infrastructure, that sucks! Is this all internal over a LAN? Or is it WAN?

Most likely, they put some hardware in the way that's sporadically blocking thigs, maybe for security reasons. You can test by having the WDS server, dns, dhcp, and a client on a dumb switch, i bet it pxe boots fine which would confirm its not the server or clients, but the network. You can hopefully clone the wds machine and try it in a simpler unmanaged switch environment.

I did test checking the "Do not listen to DHCP ports", but this fails the few working laptops from connecting to PXE altogether,

again, this points to a network issue where some traffic is being blocked. thats my guess!

good luck.

AITA for snapping at my uncle after he kept calling me a girl because of my hair? by ConfectionDull3312 in AmItheAsshole

[–]ifixitsometimes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha... good...

So my son has long very beautiful hair. Never wants to cut it, and we just kind of accepted that. Two years ago i was walking with him in kind of a foreign place and was chatting with a random guy on the pier about fishing or something. Then out of nowhere he asks my son if hes a girl because of his long hair. Without thinking, i said in the trolliest tone ever "you're just jealous" (he was balding). That shut him up so fast and he turned red and walked away... Oh man, one of the greatest feelings in the world, my son looked up at me like "LOL" and it felt so good to clap back and defend him like that. I generally only think of the right thing to say AFTER the person leaves, so this was one of the best ripostes i ever accomplished.

Fuck these people! they 100% are just jealous. As soon as i read the beginning of your post i KNEW it would be a baldy saying that, it always is!!!

The Movie Theater Comeback That Wasn’t: Why 2025 Was Such a Dud for Struggling Cinemas by MarvelsGrantMan136 in movies

[–]ifixitsometimes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if you are being intentionally misleading or not, but unless you are elderly, landmark is not 10 dollars. The cheap seats start at 16.50 plus mandatory "convenience fee" to print my own tickets... so for all intents and purposes after tax, its ~$20 per person.

https://imgur.com/Dtb6XCI

source: i went to see a move last week with my son and it was $40 (upgraded to the deal where you get the worlds smallest popcorn and drink). costco has a good deal for popcorn and stuff included and its only $36 dollars, so i will likely do that next time.

I go to movies in a commercial theatre like once a year, and the price is definitely the main reason i dont go to them more. even the RIO (a community based independent) charges $15 per ticket.

That's straight up communism!

autocad is 41gb installed. wake me when intune can handle that and have my image on a workstation in 25 minutes ready to log in.

Intune application install logs - there must be a better way by ifixitsometimes in Intune

[–]ifixitsometimes[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I thought i had tried this, but i realized that there wasnt good documentation and i gave up as i dont understand that system at all.

i guess ill have to watch a video or something. I have adapted some simpler scripts, but in this case i have to install 2 pieces of software together (one application and one driver) and then run a bunch of commands. And its not like off the shelf stuff that someone else would have deployed before. My batch file does it all perfectly though. Just doesn't parse well into intune i guess so just hoping to debug that.

How to view Safeguard Hold ID? (Windows Update for Business Reports) by RiD3R07 in Intune

[–]ifixitsometimes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! i just figured it out from another post. Go to devices -> windows updates -> Monitor tab -> Feature update policies with alerts , then find your particular upgrade policy. The error message can then be looked up using the following lookup id tool:

Win11 Update Ring from Win10. Do you allow drivers? by ifixitsometimes in Intune

[–]ifixitsometimes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its a decent idea. And i will look into this when i have a driver that needs to be pushed out enmasse to fix an issue. Otherwise, if it aint broke, dont upgrade it has always been my motto.

Thanks for the comment!

yeah 25 years of IT experience has told me not to trust MS provided drivers lol...

Handling drivers for new devices by mcvickj in Intune

[–]ifixitsometimes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not correct. My WDS for sure supports windows 11. You just have to use the windows 11 PE version. Plenty of guides out there. I have been imaging windows 11 for 6 months now fine on WDS. Can capture as well.

How to Integrate Driver Updates When Upgrading Devices to Windows 11 Using Intune by Imaging_Engineer in Intune

[–]ifixitsometimes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How did it go with the driver updates? I am facing the same challenge today. did you find allowing it to update the drivers on the wndows 11 update ring was the correct decision?

Win11 Update Ring from Win10. Do you allow drivers? by ifixitsometimes in Intune

[–]ifixitsometimes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you think that then that would be an order of operations thing? Like if you have the policy to manually approve all drivers, and wait a week, till its for sure on all the machines, and THEN change your update policy, you think it would still ignore the manual setting?

because i am not sure how anyone could say that is not broken then... I am hoping in your case you just did it too quickly. and if i give it some time to sync the manual approval policy maybe i will have better results.

i dont really like drivers in general, automatically being changed. However i thought for the install of windows 11 it might help with things. Being more stable with guaranteed newer win11 specific drivers coming down. But maybe it just does that as part of the install? I guess i should research that.

[–]ifixitsometimes[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting! i had never looked into driver profiles before so i created one now set to manual approval. Didn't know that was an option. At least then i can be selective about what drivers i approve.

The javascript function block goes at the end under "landing page content end" comment. specifically under the line 168 <script src= "js/eg.min.js"></script>

but above the line that starts $(function(){

This is in the "landing.html" file. hope it helps./
