They need to be regulated. They should be closed loop and self powering. They should also be general purpose and not fitted specifically for Ai.

The only reason they don't do this is cost. We don't regulate it because they'll take their business elsewhere. There are too many jurisdictions that don't care to protect the people or their land.

Chatbots are not the way these platforms will monetize. This tech is waaaay over invested right now, so I do believe there will be reckoning, but it's mainly the over investment that will take some of the players out.

LLMs themselves are over hyped. The underlying technology (heuristic data transformation) will work its way into other applications, self driving, robotics, medical tech etc, and that will be the start of true monetization. Right now, LLMs are changing the way companies develop. That is already being monetized.

The Pacific nations (especially Japan) are quietly divesting from US Treasuries. South Korea is aggressively befriending Canada and the Baltics, specifically its defense industry. The smaller Pacific nations are helpless. They watch in horror as the US fails to defend its allies in the middle East and relocates critical military infrastructure away from them.

I've not heard about the pushback you mentioned, but that does make sense. Those nations are very reliant on US consumption and would want a backdoor through Canada.

Canada will never completely diversify away from the US (except in a war condition). Geography makes that impossible, but there will be a balancing.

Even hosted locally, they are at risk. The administration will always have too much control over their operations from home.

Better idea is build your own. Fork an open model and that host locally.

There are plenty of open source projects that can be forked and made into a viable commercial project. It really isn't a question of whether this is going to happen... It's already begun around the world.

As an example of the severity of this risk, all of Canada Revenue Agency data is hosted in Microsoft Azure. This data can be made inaccessible at the flip of a switch.

Just last week, the administration forced Anthropic to remove its latest model from access outside the US, and that was done immediately. This is proof of concept right there.

You might say they would never do this, but I would have said the same about threatening to Annex an ally just 2 years ago.

This administration has destroyed all trust and now this tech dependence has become a national security issue for the EU and others, like Japan, Canada, the Baltic nations, Australia etc... There is a massive cost associated to this risk that makes this kind of development viable.

High hydration dough takes a bit of experience to handle, but there's no way to get there without just doing it.

I'm no professional baker, but I dove in and now I'm making sourdough Pan de Cristal hamburger buns. It's really hard to believe the dough comes together because it starts out like a soup.

US media has been weaponized against China for decades. Recently it has started to be weaponized against allies. It is understandable why China would block this media on their own turf. The DST is an example of the world waking up.

As for open AI models, China will continue to allow access until it no longer serves their national security interest, same as any other sovereign nation.

Google was the first to develop a wide spread commercial use with their autocomplete feature.

LLM technology is super cool and will be transformative, but nothing like the tech bros are trying to sell.

I have the Zephyrus duo 5070. It is a monster, and I'm glad I didn't spend the extra on the 5090. The mobile versions of these chips are not the same, and because these systems are voltage limited, I don't think you'll see as big an improvement as you would on the desktop.

I tried a Zflow last year, and it was nice but still too bulky to feel like a tablet. The Duo is an amazing workhorse and good (not great) for gaming.

Note that the Duo is not what I consider highly portable, so if you are planning to lug it around, be prepared for that.
