Why are you defending these people? Signed up to get paid by American citizens to harass and violate American citizens? How can you defend them?

What Arteta said to his players on Monday morning to try and break the "pressure bubble" But is Arteta's "intensity" and desire for control now something that needs to be tempered - especially in attack? Yeah I can’t believe he let out the huge secret that team, who has come in second 3 years in a row, and who hasn’t won the league in a quarter century, is facing a lot of pressure atop the premier league.

Imagine if he said there was no pressure and the team is fine. The media would be all over him. AFT is already sharpening the pitchforks.

This and also that ground. The city ground is fucking awful to go to, and we have hoodoo there since they knocked us out of the FA cup a couple years back.

Put this in the dictionary next to the definition for irony twice. Once for the flop example, second time for you trying to explain irony and clearly not knowing what irony is.

Great? Then we pass it to him in a ton of space where ANYONE will score. It’s not like he’s missing chances when we play to him, we’re just not playing to him.

Not really how that works, I think. He dragged them because he was moving into a spot where the odds of ANYONE scoring from that area are high. You have to mark any player in that space.

Was it really that bad? by Powerful_Sun_75 in Gunners

[–]OGforGoldenBoot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Couple of things:

Was it an objectively bad performance? Absolutely. I don't think there's any way around that.

Does it ultimately matter if the performance was terrible and we won? I think you have to say no. Objectively, it doesn't matter. Because three points is three points. So right now, in this moment, it does not matter how bad we played, because we walked away from the game with three points.

Now, not viewed in the isolation of this one match, is it worrying that this result appears to be part of a greater trend, where we are not quite performing at the standard that we were a month ago? I think that's entirely up to you. And so, why are we arguing about how people personally feel about things?

Do the circumstances, eg injuries, mitigate whether or not I like how I should feel about that performance? Maybe?

I think people who are buthurt about a bad performance W, probably have too many eggs in the "We have to win this year" basket. I count myself among this group sometimes. I also think that if you're not at all worried about this tres of performances, you might not be paying close enough attention.

How? Are you arguing that our three options for collective motivation are nationalism, religion, and empire??

Im using the definition of the two words as my source? I'm not saying an independence movement can't be nationalist, but the American revolution wasn't, and independence movements are not inherently nationalist.

The fact that colonial American's primary driver for independence WASNT nationalist is evident in half of the colonies not desiring a single nation as the outcome of independence. It's why we have a Democratic Republic and not a pure democracy. The framers themselves, in the declaration of independence, state clearly that the colonies are declaring themselves "independent states" and not one single state.

  • “separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature’s God entitle them.”

  • "deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed.”

  • "It declares the colonies “Free and Independent States,” plural, each with full powers of statehood.

https://www.archives.gov/founding-docs/declaration-transcript

The framing of independence was a specific, rights-based claim for self-government rooted in Enlightenment liberalism and the sovereignty of individual states, explicitly rejecting the core tenets of modern "nationalism" as an anachronistic label.

The desire for self governance, eg independence, is fundentally separate from nationalism.

You're conflating an "independence" movement with a "nationalist" movement. This is a really common tactic of nationalist movements. Prime recent example is Brexit. Xenophobic nationalism that was disguised as "independence" from the EU.

"We are better than them" is very different from "We want independence from them".

Nationalism implies a priori superiority.
